So I got the G5 Plus today, put the Project Fi sim in and calls work, sms works, data works (via T-Mobile only), but mms messages are just characters. I know there is are fixes on Reddit/XDA so I need to go find them. Otherwise this phone is pretty nice for now. Have only seen the Amazon ads on the lock screen as drop downs, they are not too bad for now.

Edit: Dislike how pressing the fingerprint button only turns on the lock screen, requires a second press to get into the phone.

Thanks!

Well, the order's in for my XZ Premium. Hope it arrives this week!
Forgot to reply to your other post, Last time I ordered from Clove and chosen sign and tracked, I didn't get hit with duty or taxes and it also came with the MBR XB950BT headphones so the package wasn't small at all. lol..

With Fedex you would get hit with taxes and brokerage. There's no duties for smartphones.

But there is nokia 8 apparently in a few weeks too? Doubt it will be hitting the US anytime soon though, and it kinda looks like... a htc phoneish, which im not a fan of the front.

Yeah I'm curious just how much I will have to pay FedEx.

Will know soon enough

I've ordered from Clove before as well and yeah, that FedEx box is seriously big. No customs bill or anything. They always send an invoice though afterwards

Can someone please help. I've just got the Moto g5 plus and inserted an SD card but bypassed the notification screen asking if I want to set it up as portable storage. I now don't know how to set this up as the storage page in settings doesn't give me the option.

Looks great. Shame about the lack of wireless charging. It really, really sucks that Google abandoned wireless charging without implementing any alternative.

No dual camera seems weird as well, not that they have to chase every trend.

Anyway, with not guaranteed OS updates for 3 years the Pixel doesn't seem to be worth the high price anyway.

Try reinserting the card?

Don't expect that from any phone besides ios.

Regardless phone batteries go to shit after like 2 years and modern phones are impossible to open to replace battery.

The current excuse is that Qualcomm doesn't provide drivers after two years or only at an unreasonable cost. That shouldn't be an issue once Google puts their own SoC in it.

Whether the battery is good enough or not should be up the consumer. Google can still provide OS updates to those phones. If not, why bother if Google is not willing to support their phones better than the average OEM.

Agreed. Which is why I generally think android devices at iPhone prices is silly.

Get a kickass phone for $400 or less and upgrade more frequently.

Help! My old trusty Nexus 5 finally died :( And now I don't know what to buy.

I would like to spent 400€ at most, what I've been eyeing is the Huawei P10, LG G6 or a S7 Edge. There's also the Oneplus 5 but that's a at 500€ and I did read there's some kind of problems with the screen. And looking down that price there's the Moto G5 Plus at only 300€ but I dunno how good it is.

I don't really play games or use the camera, just want a fast enough phone for the everyday stuff (lots of internet too).

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
With Google really only updating once a year for major updates, and security updates being more of a thing now I think you generally get more than 2 years worth cause the next update usually isn't out yet.

If that makes any sense.

What's a good charger that can charge my iPad, iPhone and S8? Like have QC compatibility and fast charging for iPad/iPhone?

I got one of those Anker 60W 5 port one with USB C but that thing burned out on me few weeks ago. Not a good sign. So any other suggestions?

My Pixel XL is running the latest Android O beta, but it's still rocking the May 2017 security update. That's not normal, right?

What's the best way to fix it? Do I need to unenroll in the beta, set up the phone, then re-enroll? Just a factory reset?

Make sure to contact them. Their support is good.

Otherwise I feel like any should be ok?

I have a 10yo backpack made of cordura and it is indeed awesome. It is as strong as it was day one. Id like to buy a new one though.

It costs 79 euros here, and they want 20 euros for shipping, so its just better to spend 21 on something else and get free shipping. Gonna check of anything else is worth something. (I have a 3T, maybe a nice case?)

Edit. They have absolutely nothing for the 3t except for an ugly foldable case. Maybe getting the Dash car charger? I dont have a car but I could use a smaller dash cable in the meantime. lol I will have a car in 1.5 years but by then I will probably have changed my phone already.

Lol I think they stopped selling op3 cases because that support.

Just get it when you get the op6?

Someone I know is thinking about upgrading to a new phone in the next few months. Right now, they're using a Galaxy S3, and it's useless for more or less everything - snapchat doesn't work, it doesn't like video calls, it's slow and the music player sucks (although the camera, she says, is good, even if I'm kinda skeptical.)

I know this is probably a foregone conclusion, but am I right in thinking that basically anything she could get now would be an upgrade? I'm considering suggesting a Moto G5 - would this be a decent replacement?

Link.

Link to deal on Samsung's site.

Beginning today, Samsung is offering a killer promotion on its website and in the Shop Samsung App. Trade in your old smartphone while buying a new Galaxy S8, and Samsung will give you a second Galaxy S8 for free. Would you rather have a Galaxy S8+? No problem, buy one S8+ with a qualifying trade-in and your second one is just $100.

Has anyone traded in a device with Samsung?

This deal happened in the past. Ymmv if they accept your phone. Otherwise they charge you for both lol.

Yeah, I read the fine print and the reason I'm asking. Especially when since I would be giving them my S7 for free.

I traded in a $8 Walmart phone in the last deal and they accepted it. It took them like 3 weeks so by the time you find out if accepted you will be past your return period. I wouldn't risk it.

That is what I was leaning towards. It looks like a gamble.

Do NOT give them a s7. Resale that and send in a cheap $10 phone if you do the deal. your s7 can get $300+ on craigslist.

-edit- wait is this a new deal that requires a trade in of select phones? I wouldn't do it. The s8 is selling worse than the s7 and there will be better deals.

Galaxy Note5, S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, S7, S7 edge, iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, 7 or 7 Plus devices only

The trade-in credit would be $725. The price of the S8 phone.

If you only need 1 phone you can buy a new s8 on swappa for around $500 and then sell your s7 for around $300. Seems like a better deal imo. Obviously it's a small risk to buy on swappa, but if you buy from a reputable seller with good reviews I'm sure it's safe.

I had a one feet drop with my Spigen Rugged Armor case on it, I don't use a screen protector, have a one line crack on the screen from the left to right. My first phone crack ever, unfortunately. I also don't use phone cases either, been using this with one because I knew something like this would happen. I haven't asked about how much it would cost to get it fixed because the phone is still working flawless and the crack is barely visible when I mostly have a dark theme on it.

So spoiler alert, phone is very fragile.

Rip. Rugged armor has worked well for me for most phones but I guess s8 is just more fragile?

Remember not to go swimming with that phone anymore!

I usually recommend the RhinoShield (if they support your phone). I've dropped my phone multiple times with this on my phone and the phone is still all good.
