Android still allows me to do power stuff better than ios. Easier to move files from my pc. Easier to send emails because or SwiftKey autocomplete. Splitscreen is nice to watch something while social mediaing.

If you don't do any of this get an iPhone. Less jank and way longer support. Heck iphone 8 is finally catching up to modern Android phones with a amoled screen, small bezels, wireless and fast charging.

Damn, Google music always stutters on my S7 Edge. It drives me crazy. I'm assuming it's fine on the Pixel and One Plus 5?

Well, I didn't move but I have a Pixel and an S8.

  • The S8 has a reachability mode.
  • The S8's floating window and splitscreen UI are significantly better (less of a gap with Oreo tbh).
  • The S8 has Bixby, which you may consider a plus or minus.
  • The S8 can have more compact notifications that are less intrusive than stock.
  • Samsung Pay and Android Pay are both supported.
  • The S8 supports Gear VR and Daydream.
  • The S8 has a proper hardware backed secure folder that can store items and apps behind biometrics.
  • There's a few nice bits in the camera app (like holding up your hand to trigger a selfie), though I'd consider the camera apps in general to be roughly equivalent.
  • The S8 has a game mode to suspend notifications etc.
  • The S8 supports multiple bluetooth audio devices via BT 5.0
  • The S8 is more themable than Google's stock, unless you are okay with Substratum use.
  • The S8 comes with (almost all removable) versions of the core apps, some of which are quite good (I really value information density, so I quite like the Samsung Gallery and SMS apps).
  • Samsung's backup solution is clunky, but at least it fucking exists.

Ah yeah, had a 2 hour video on last night and no cuts for the Pixel C. Some of the previews did fuck it up so I'm surprised.

You can't set the Bixby activation button to use the Google Assistant app, but the usual Google Assistant works when you long press the home button as per any other Android phone, so you can just not use Bixby.

Always on hotword detection only works with Bixby though, not the Google app, unfortunately.

Almost all of them. I think the Samsung app store can't be removed because it's used for OS updates, Secure Folder can't (dunno why you'd want to tbf) and randomly the calendar app can't. But everything else IIRC. Some junk is pre-installed like Microsoft Word, but uninstallable.

You can remove almost everything.

The installation stub of a few k remains but that's it (which is the Google approved method).

Who the hell knows. Given Google has always drank the huge device cool aid and never done anything for users of smaller devices, I think it's really just management bias and not looking at the data.

Unless your a person that just has to have the S-Pen for some reason idk why you wouldn't just grab the S8+ instead for cheaper.

Can someone help me out with the Google Now widget? (I'm using Nova Launcher, so I don't know whether it's a custom Nova implementation or not).

I can't figure out how to customize the cards that show up in the widget. I mainly wanted it to have my commute time on there, but it's just showing me a weather card that's worse than the card I can get inside of Now, and a package tracker card. I tried expanding the widget to 4x4, but that didn't cause more information to show up, and waiting a few days hasn't done anything either. There's a "More Cards" button, but that just brings me to Google Now, not to a list of cards to add to the widget.

I tried Googling, but I can't find shit about it. All my results are regarding how to use gestures to bring up Google Now from Nova.

Note 8 looks cool and all, but when you can walk to Best Buy and get an unlocked S8+ for $300 cheaper, I'm not seeing much of a point to it.
