Animal Crossing appreciation thread

You know, I bought this game over a year ago, and I've played it regulary since. I have my breaks where I go about a month or more without touching it, but this is one of the only games that really keeps me coming back, even if it's just for 20 minutes a day. AC has so much charm and even over a year in, I haven't seen everything. My roomates and my buddies on my hockey team rip on me anytime they see me play it. Honestly though, I don't care, I love this game. It's so simple, but for some reason keeps me entertained. Over the year, I actually grew to like the characters even though at first I found them kinda bland. Scoot and Kabuki are probally the top two I've come along so far.

Playing the game this morning has got me thinking about the Revolution sequel. Obviously the graphics will improve, but they should keep the style they set with the first game. Some things I'd like to see done though are more diverse weather effects. Such things as having crazy thunderstorms move in during the summer with crashing thunder, lightning, rain, and heavy wind blowing the trees and other items. Huge snow storms in the winter months that build up on the ground causing you to shovel or be snowed in. Perhaps in the winter months have ponds freeze over and the villagers skate around, play pond hockey (pond hockey mini game maybe?), go sledding down hills, have snowball fights (another mini game). It's just that kind of immersion that I think would really take the game to the next level.

A few other ideas I had were possibly letting the player buy boats and canoes, then allowing the user to go out into the ocean and fish for bigger catch, ride the waves, go swimming, or dive for buried treasures (like old classic games, etc). How about letting the player decorate their houses and trees on timeframes near halloween and xmas? How about a sports arena (indoor or outdoor) with basketball, soccer, and tennis mini games for fun? Possibly adding the need to eat with MGS3 like stamina meter, maybe a more in depth create a character at the start, or grass that grows in realtime and needs to be cut. Or maybe classic Nintendo game music to play on your stereo like the Zelda, Mario, Metroid themes (maybe it's in the first one, I just can't find it?). I could go on for hours, but I'm about to head out.

Just curious about peoples thoughts for the sequel and on the original? What do you think they should do to improve the Revolution follow up and how do you think the Rev controller should be used for the game? Hopefully I'm not the only one out there who's addicted to this game. I want to stop, I just can't. :/

Brilliant game. My favorite of all time. This is going to get trolled by Drinky Crow and Amir0x.

You have my vote, though.

I'll let you guys visit my town on DS, but promise to leave my trees alone.

oh and don't hit my neighbors...

what was that thing that was basically AC's stock market? peaches?

anyway, it would be nice if different villages had different prices for it, I could buy it cheap in my village and sell it on another with some profit

Turnips!

I loved the game but it got tiring after a month, after obtaining most of the NES games. I can't believe there's still like 5 NES games in that disk that I have no way of releasing, other than gamesharkin' :(

I enjoyed it for awhile when it was released, but after Christmas I more or less forgot about it. To be perfectly honest, I just did not enjoy it enough to ccontinue much further. I do wish that there were more things to do, to be honest.

I'm really looking forward to the DS version since I can pick up and play anywhere. The console ones just take longer to set up, with the need to really sit down and play. Thus, I am greatly looking forward to it, but I'd probably get hooked on aa Rev. version anyways.

I forgot to buy candy :(
Oh shit, I forgot about that. I haven't played the game in forever, but I have like a dozen cabinets in the basement filled with old tickets and candy that I can put to use!

As LakeEarth said, turnips. It was the stalk market with Sow Joan! :lol

You could already do this with the GameCube version, though obviously the ability to travel to many towns online increases your chances.

Me, the first thing I'd change about Animal Crossing is just to streamline things for people who are already familiar with the game. Like, I've bought 500 things from you, Tom Nook. I don't need to hear about the raffle ticket and when it can be used every single time. And I've heard your speech about the axe before, too; can't you let me skip it with the Y button or something? When you come across an item in the store or outside, some minor indication of whether or not it's in your catalog, so you'd know whether it's something you'd want to get to help fill in your collection. A graph outside the store showing the turnip prices from the last week. Things like that.

I saw lots of people talking about how much they liked the game, and even though I really didn't think I would like it, I gave it a rental. I started playing one morning, got my character all set up in his house, ran a few errands, that sort of thing, and thought that it was nothing special. I turned it on again the next day and did a few more things, and the next thing I knew, three hours had gone by. It's a pretty enjoyable game, and if they had an online-enabled version on the Revolution, I'd likely be all over it.

yeah. animal crossing is a masterpiece!

it's a really unassuming game, but once i started playing i was hooked. i love everything about it :) :) :)

can't wait for the ds version, and a rev version... omg, would be awesome!

I bought it in October of 2002 and before I knew it, it was April 2003, and there were trees lying dead everywhere.

This game is going to be so great on the DS. My wives brother, sister and mother play. Being able to visit their towns from across the country is going t be very cool.

I haven't played AC in three years until I introduced it to my girlfriend some weeks ago. She got hooked and so did her brother and sister. :lol

Anyway, I started playing again because of her but now I'm bored again. There just isn't that much things to do after a while. But I do agree that this is one of those games that you can come back to after a month and still enjoy it all over again. Good luck with the weeds though. I had three years worth of weeds.....

Really? I'm pretty sure I have gathered around 7 by just the main game. And then there's the 2 on the island which you need a GBA for. I still need to work on those.

Great game though. I really can't wait for the DS one. Is DS going to be online by the time it comes out?

There are a bunch you can only get from codes through Nintendo. Go to www.animal-crossing.com and look at the red banner and keep clicking it. Eventually it'll give you a pop-up. Do what it tells you to, putting in your gamename and the name of the town, and tell the code to Nook. Free Soccer NES game!

Over the past 2 years they've given free codes for tons of games, including Punch-Out a few months back (dunno where to get them now since all the banners are for Soccer now). But to this day there's no way of unlocking Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros, Zelda, and Ice Climbers, unless you get that E-Reader thing (I think).

There were Ice Climber and Mario Bros. e-Reader cards (I'd love those, for my collection of gaming junk)... I do believe that Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda were the only titles never officially unlocked.

Of course, you could always by one of my infamous eBay visitor memory cards, with all 18 NES games. :)

I don't need the DS version since I'm still playing the GC one daily but I will be interested ta see if they keep the dialogue good. There's stuff that kids wouldn't get in the GC one which I always thought was cool. Plus alot of what the mayor says is pretty good. Also will it have as much as the first game? I'm still seeing new stuff being said by my towns animals on occasion even after playing daily for 3+ years.

I got obsessed with collecting one of every item. I bought the game guide and checked everything off as I found or bought it. I buried stuff on the island hoping to switch it off for new items. It became a bizarre compulsion, but added a hell of a lot of gameplay to the game for me.

Yes! Yes!

I still play the original religiously, and the DS version has me a bit tense. I mean, I want it -but I don't want to "cheat" on my current town. I'm an outstanding member of the community after all.

And of course all of my buddies would miss me. Especially Aziz. He's my best friend.

I WON'T EVER LEAVE YOU BABY!! *hugs game*

It is a very enjoyable game and I was actually surprised by how hooked I could be by it. What seemed like a rather mundate game at first, had me playing for hours at a time. The many things to collect, and just the sheer amount of things to do in the game and me playing for quite some time. I haven't played it in ages, but I am definitely excited for Wild World.

I'll throw my hat in for the appreciation.

Haha, same here. She loves it, and it's a lot more fun with more than one person playing the same village.
