i've heard that supposedly their transfers suck or something? but other then that why the adv hate?
i was interested in picking up plastic little since i was interesting in the art/animation quality in it.

My post above was sarcasm; ADV is one of the best companies in the business right now, funding plenty of interesting projects from the ground up (like Kino's Journey) and doing high-quality translations with great transfers and packaging (they're using chipboard boxes now instead of paper). A certain group of fans has latched onto the idea that ADV is evil because they're very large and doing very well for themselves and because of a few scattered and dubious incidents - supposed translation plagiarism from some Rahxephon fansubs; kicking somebody's dog, etc.

ADV has done some crap jobs in the past, like transfer problems with some show or another and overlays in early Eva and Nadesico discs, but they've since cleaned those up and later releases of the shows were fine. They've continued refining their processes and listening to fans' feedback, which is what any company in this business should be doing.

I don't know if I would order anything off of their web site though. One of the sales they had a few months back was a huge fiasco. Edit: by their web site I mean ADV. Right Stuf is all good.

ADV is nowhere near one of the best in the business now. One of the largest perhaps but nowhere near the best. Too many mistakes, lots of inconsistency, poor transfers, and a whole host of other things. They're not quite as moronic as Bandai in a lot of regards but they still have many many problems in their actual work.

here's a question, sometimes the fansub seem to be better then the actual translation by the company that licenced it. Since fansubbers try to help the anime community couldn't the company that licenced that anime in that area use portions of the translated script?

Dead

well not really...yet
Just so you know whatever DVDs you order from ADVs website will most likely have holes punched through the sleeve. Just a warning to those anal about packaging like me :p

They could if they asked for permission from the person or people that did the script. They don't automatically inherent any right to any script they want if they license the material though.

The only problem I have with ADV is their manga release schedule. It's like:

Vol 1: now
Vol 2: whenever the hell we feel like it, maybe never

We've carried so many ADV mangas that never got a second volume, or haven't in almost a year. Hell, Gunslinger Girl 1 and 2 were like 15 months apart... could you imagine them releasing GTO or something of that length? Sheesh. The sad thing is, they've got Cro High manga... :( :(

That said, I ordered two Mechazawa plushies, as I can't find them in stores. :)

Do they ship to Canada? I have like barely any anime dvd's and there's a bunch I'm interested in that are now very cheap.
