Anime that could work as an American television series

I'm currently in the middle of my first viewing of Legend of the Galactic Heroes and, with some editing and the proper budget, it would make a fantastic american tv series.

Plot-wise is very similar to GoT (although without boobs) so we know there's an audience for it, but LotGH's concepts are much thicker than it, so they should find a way to make it more understandable (i swear if you don't pay attention for a couple of seconds, you could miss whats going on in the following scenes) but without losing it's complexity.

The plot is already self contained in arcs that have clear beginnings and endings, that would make it easy to make seasons out of it. Around 20 would be ideal.

It really depends on the budget though, considering some battles are just stills of spaceships and commander's war tables, but others are much more complex and detailed.

It's also one of those anime that would greatly benefit from being represented by western actors, actually of all races.

Wouldn't it be seen as too pro despotism (though i don't remember if Reinhard was a despot or just not)? I also don't think Yang would be very well received, seeing as he's exceptionally critic of what could be considered a nation paralleling contemporary US.

Haven't read through 6 pages to see if it's been mentioned, but if Absolute Boyfriend can work as a Japanese, Chinese, Korean drama, it could definately work as a western one.

Yeah, that's pretty much what i meant for complicated concepts.

I mean, "just because there are despots, you shouldn't consider dictatorships as a bad thing"? That would make such a fuss. Maybe as a Kickstarter, non-nation related project?

Also, i'm sure that after the first episodes, only those really into thick concepts and political philosophies would keep following it, so they wouldn't complain too much lol

Eden of the East and Paradise Kiss.

Not much special effects and already have licensed pop music ;D

Oh yes, these two could work nicely, especially Paradise Kiss. Manga/anime series were both quite short, but I don't see a problem of extending the storyline. And if we're talking Ai Yazawa, then Nana too. It could be even better for network TV than Paradise Kiss, as it's already longer and has much more (melo)drama.

But the one I would give everything to see a good adaptation of, would be The Slayers. Tone down the slapstick a tiny bit and what you get is a potentially brilliant adventure fantasy, ready-made for CW's audience. It could be a blast.
John Cho for Xellos, please
