People still out here defending both these girls smh. Get with it

Iggy of says the kind of ignorant shit you shake you head at and wonder if the girl has any sense.

Banks actively spews blatant hate shit on both racial and sexual orientation fronts on the regular to get people riled up and admits to doing it for fun.

Both take a hard as fuck L. Stop defending either of them.

^ This.

*still listening to that interview*

I'm a fan. I want her album now.

But I'm going to be truthful: I can totally understand where the hate comes from. She has an attitude. And it's off-putting, regardless of whether it's warranted or not. She said that people describe her as a "bitter black bitch" and maybe that's unfair to her because she's speaking about real issues.

Then again, before today, I only VAGUELY knew of her so I'm really just getting one side of the "Banks" story. But considering the way she went after T.I. and his wife, I'm guessing that acts like that pretty often.

And the only reason I know of her is because of her beef with other people, so.....*shrug*

Iggy is gross, so I'd like to see her go down.

I wouldn't be surprised if the material is just evidence of consensual sex with various male celebrities, though.

the thing is it has to be something worse than raping several women but at the same time not as bad as saying something racist on the internet.

so that should narrow it down a bit.

Anonymous (hacker) is beefing with Iggy Azalea, apparently because something racist she said to that trash Azaleia Banks.

Iggy is the aural equivalent to black face and constantly saying ignorant, racist shit. People trying to compare her garbage to Azalea's is like comparing the grand dragon of the KKK to Scrappy Doo. Yes, Azalea says some dumb shit on twitter and it shouldn't be hand-waived, but its not on the same level.

banks can put out some tracks but she's toxic garbage too, was hoping bronson would flay her but she just stays on some twitter bullshit all day burning every possible bridge

i still think it'd be fun to have an ios game where you're her PR manager, like on some demons souls shit

Iggy saying really fucked up questionable things isn't new. Chick wears her privilege and ignorance on her sleeve.

no doubt, but yeah, what specifically did she say about protesters & eric that i missed?

popeyes.png

This isn't anywhere nearly as stupid as the shit Banks posts on her twitter. That Bill Cosby thread here on GAF was eye opening, girl has problems, and she's burned nearly every professional bridge she's walked across.

Banks dropping a tasteless f-bomb and brushing off the Cosby accusations is undeniably lame, but how can anyone equate Iggy and Banks given Iggy's reaction here?

side-note: getting on Banks for her attitude really bothers me.

Yesterday Hot 97 hosts Ebro Darden, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez hosted Banks, who once again slandered Iggy, called T.I. "a shoe-shining coon," and spoke that real about not needing Interscope or Top 40 radio play to make and promote her music.

What the fuck

Are you not entertained by this C-level celebrity drama?

I'm just waiting to see what the reveal is. I only know who Iggy is from an image or two, not sure what her work is (I've probably heard it, just no idea who was singing it). The other person I've never heard of. While I stopped caring about the going-ons of celebrities around the age of 19, I'm not to proud to pass on Schadenfreude.

Just read Iggy's response to Banks. She's not wrong. Banks isn't unsuccessful because she's black, she's unsuccessful because she's a terrible person to everyone. Crying about Iggy being white won't make people like her.

But that really wasn't her message. She talked about macklemore too. Whether or not you think she's jealous doesn't matter. She was talking truth in regards to black appropriation. Iggys response was selfish because it totally misses the point of what banks was saying is an industry phenomena to reward white folks for doing mediocre black music and to shun black folks for doing exceptional black music. It's not a theory. It's not conspiracy. We see it happen too often. Iggy is some naive twenty something white Australian who couldn't possibly see banks' larger point about a system that's designed to put down black exceptionalism. She responds to banks by talking about boot straps which is so incredibly tone deaf.

It would be like complaining about Hollywood's habit of white washing films and their habit of only casting blacks if there's a good reason, or even largely ignoring powerful black performances when giving out awards and some actor responds with "there are plenty of successful black actors, you just suck"

Granted the two industry's aren't the same but that doesn't matter for my analogy. What matters is there is a problem that banks was pointing to and iggy completely misses it.

I'd imagine this isn't the best time to be doing the whole hacktivist thing, FBI and co will be looking for some people to catch to make them look like they are doing something.

Iggy didn't even address the broader trend, she went straight at Banks. And she's not wrong.

Agreed.

Anyone who's been following this "beef" (and I use that term loosely, because if I had a dollar for every time Iggy's actually responded to Azealia's countless attacks I wouldn't even have enough money to pick up a pack of condoms from CVS) knows that this is just another reason for Azealia Banks to express her jealously, bitterness, and hate over fucking Iggy.

She's hated that girl since she made the 2012 freshman list, and she's been going in on her since. It's exhausting, even if she actually has a point when you broaden the scope and remove literally all context surrounding why she's actually attacking Iggy.

She's been pretty open about where things went wrong with her label and why she lost certain endorsement deals etc, at no point does she blame Iggy for that. I don't think she believes Iggy is to blame for the state of her career, Azealia was never going to be in that top 40 lane making the music she does.

Isn't she just telling her to own up for her own self-destructive behavior there?

See below

I don't disagree. But when you're making black music it's probably not a good idea to dismiss legitimate issues because you hate the obsessed crazy person throwing shade at you everyday. Iggys best course of action would have been to ignore her.

She did. Read my edit above.

Banks isn't equivalent to a beleaguered black actress though. She's had plenty of breaks and lots of contacts in the industry, magazine covers, tour invitations from bigger artists, collaborations with famous DJs, millions thrown at her albums.

She, personally, has made a string of terrible career choices, mostly revolving around her inability to check herself. She's not a victim any more than Amanda Bynes is, though Bynes has the excuse of finally being officially diagnosed as mentally ill.

If she responds with another racist or homophobic rant, what exactly does that prove?

Secondly, what's wrong with Macklemore? Dude makes pop rap that isn't nearly as culturally offensive as a clown show like Riff Raff, yet riff actually seems to have a fan base on GAF.

I had to look up the first three people mentioned.

I feel old.

Exactly my action after reading that post.

"Who? Who? Who? Ok, I know Qtip at least"
*goes to google*

Macklemore committed the sin of being too popular.

Azealia Banks is the only person I know of to piss off Pharrell to the point that he'd let it go public. Pharrell of all people. This is how thoroughly Banks has tanked herself at this point.

In 2012 Iggy Azalea was being dropped from her first record deal and Azealia Banks was having her first EP featured in TIME. Iggy is completely right about Azealia's failures having nothing to do with her being black. She's a terrible person, and that really taints the point she's trying to make.

I don't think having breaks or opportunities is relevant. Again this isn't about banks. It's about the message. A black actor shouldn't have to be successful or unsuccessful, likable or unlikable for what they are saying to matter. So what if an unlikable unsuccessful by his own doing black actor gets emotionally upset about discrimination? We should ignore their point because they're an eff up?

Is it really wise to respond to that person by saying there are plenty of successful black people, you're just a toxic human being? No. Because it side steps legitimate societal issues in favor of an accurate but pointless personal jab.

You act like this fight has to be channeled through Banks though. You're pulling a "No! it's about ethics in games journalism" thing. Where people are trying to cherry pick the deep issue that they want to talk about, and ignore the other facet.

Banks has to face up to her actions, if she keeps utterly failing to separate her own beef from that other point. Then she shouldn't be the face of that fight. Look to others who actually fight the good fight, and have their shit together.

No I don't. I don't think the fight had to be channeled through banks at all. I actually like Iggy more than I do banks. I know banks is a terrible person who says outrageous things. The issue you're dealing with is the same issue Iggy was. You're mixing your perception of banks with what she says. The news here isn't banks said something crazy. She always says something crazy. The news here is banks finally says something intelligent on a specific issue and all Iggy (and you) want to do is talk about how terrible a person she is. We all know. We all get it.

I'm not trying to cherry pick. What you're doing is trying to bring irrelevant personal attacks to someone commenting on a broader issue. If you watched the interview like I did you see banks own up partially to her own demise. She's not blaming anyone for her failure. You guys think that's what the topic was about. It's not. The topic was about black appropriation. Banks can and should be able to talk about black appropriation without people hand waving her points because she's an unlikable human being.

So I can receive a PR response that suppose to address the situation by not being real? Oh please. We've had people like childish Gambino, Kendrick, shit even Lauren Hill, and a host of other rappers, singers etc, who say this stuff in the nicest way possible but it gets thrown under a rug and that's it.

Watch the interview. She certainly takes responbility for her actions and her career demise.

A controversial mouthpiece to attack is the only way to get it out. And if you do say it in the most unfiltered way possible.. You're vile, disgusting, angry, bitter, etc etc etc.

See: Kanye West

I think the problem here is that the interview is being framed as yet another attack on Iggy/T.I./Tiny by pretty much everyone, and maybe that in itself is problematic, but really Azealia doesn't really help matters going in on them in the interview.

If she wanted to make broader point here she could have easily done it without rehashing this tired ass beef.

I don't know who either of these individuals are, because get off my lawn. I do find it amusing that a bunch of you are taking jabs at a fellow GAFfer in a Guy Fawkes mask, who's just having a little fun. He's fat..we know..
