Another Amped 3 convert

There's been back and forth here for the last month plus debating the quality of Amped 3, and after renting it and playing for a few hours, put me in the "good" camp. It really is a fun, bizarre game. The cut scenes make it worth it. Off the wall animation, puppets, toys, cartoons, anime parodies, animated photos, sketches... it's really amusing, creative stuff visually. And kind of funny, too. No, not hilarious like OLD Adult Swim (Space Ghost, ATHF, Sealab), but funnier than the new AS crud (Robot Chicken, 12oz. Mouse, etc)

Certainly not a graphical powerhouse, and as far as I can tell there's no racing, it's just tricks and jumps, so don't go looking for an SSX type game. But it's definitely worth the time for someone looking for something different on da Tree Siddy. In 2-3 years when this gen's "What are your most underrated games?" threads start popping up every month, Amped 3 is gonna be on a lot of lists.

I rented it also and think it's easily one of the better 360 titles. The cut scenes are really entertaining. The story is silly, but adds to the charm of the game.

I rented it, completed the story mode, and thought it sucked.

I liked the gameplay mechanics, but I thought the track/area design didn't exploit the 'butter' system as much as it could have.

Besides this, I found the cutscenes completely ridiculous and the graphics are quite subpar for a next generation game.

I was just reading the gamespot awards and this game came up a few times in the 'bizarre' category... makes me definitely want to at least try it and see for myself.

They mentioned an FF7 parody in there... can anybody tell me what the parody is?

I fail to see how people hate 12oz Mouse. The show is genius.

Shark: What do you do.
Mouse: I do it all.
Shark: Are you drunk?
Mouse: Not... drunk enough.

It's not as awesome as Stroker and Hoop, but I love it so far. I have a hard on for completely random shows, though.

It's funny, but not surprising, that the folks who like Amped 3 all seem to be people who didn't play Amped 1 or 2. Amped 3 may be a decent game, but it's far inferior to either of the two previous games, which is why so many people hate it.

Amped 1 and 2 are definitely the most underrated Xbox games out there, though. Well, maybe those and Phantom Dust. And Otogi.

Too easy, stupid presentation, lame characters, annoying stuff everywhere, and bad design.

I usually post at least 3 paragraphs of Amped 3 hate, but I'll just stop now.

I was a huge fan of Amped 2, and I was really pissed when I first heard that they planned on making Amped 3 more accessible. But while I still think that it sucks that they turned a game that actually rewarded skill into a more SSX like game, I really dig it anyway. I don't know, I just like cruising down the absolutely massive mountains. Don't care much for having to partake in some stupid non-snowboarding events in order to unlock new mountains, but I can live with that. What really bugged was the crappiness of the final reward. Oh, and why in the hell didn't they include Laax in its entirety? Anyway, it's one of the best stoner games I've come across, and that's worth something.

I've seen a few parodies of 8 and 16 bit games so far (Kung Fu, for instance) but can't say I've seen a FF7 parody yet.

For the rest of the thread, a few points to reiterate:

If you're looking for a pure snowboarding game, you'll very likely be disappointed with this. It's not awful, but it's not as tight as an SSX or Amped 1/2, either. It's kind of like if someone picked up BMX XXX looking for a pure BMX game, although Amped 3's gameplay is certainly a lot better than thet turd's.

It's worth a rental or a purchase on a discount or used. Don't come yelling at me if you drop $60 on it.
