Another Code (DS) out in Europe (June 24th)

Just been into my local GAME and saw Another Code on the shelf... picked it up instantly as I need something to play before Famicom Wars arrives from Japan.

Anyway, this game seemed to sneak out without even a hint. Even the GAME employee was surprised when I handed him the box "Wow, I didn't know this was out".

Not many impressions for anyone just yet, only played for about 10 minutes but there's some info over at IGN if you don't know what the game is about.

I don't have a vast amount of work to do today, so I'll try to get a couple hours of gaming in (on top of a couple of hours of Battlefield 2!) and I'll try to write some impressions up later if anyone expresses interest.
 
Endearing game, one up for Nintendo for trying to revive this genre.
Grim Fandango was such a good game... adventure games are particulary suited for the DS, I hope this will give ideas to some developpers.

Back to Another Code, it's a nice story with charming artwork and music. It's also linear, too easy and eventually quite short, but your wife will want to play it as well, so that kind of compensate ;-)
 
Yeah I saw this in a store over here (Australia) and was semi-shocked that it just wasn't some silly display box.
 
Short games are a blessing for me at the moment, I'm really struggling for gaming time. I might pick this up next week, it sounds very interesting.
 
Mine shipped yesterday, I hope it arrives soon. Americans can import it from stores such as UK/Jersey based e-tailers such as play.com, gameplay.com . Or you could wait till September :P
 
You can either play with the stylus or with the d-pad to move Ashley, and you have to use the touchscreen for the puzzles. The interface in this game is great, you access all menus through Ashley's own DS in the game.
 
Played it a bit this morning.

You move Ashley either with the D-pad or with the touch screen, I like the controls quite much. Looks promising so far, dialogues can be quickened, 1st riddles are easy and the athmosphere is nice. Just great for me.
I'm really happy to see a sort of new point anc click adventure game, I hope it sells a lot to see more titles like that.

And for the haters, yes the sound and the graphics suck. :P
But the animation is smooth and the whole design really sweet.
 
I think that I'll go and buy a DS with Another Code this evening. Hope they have it at the Mediamarkt. Now I only have to decide which second game to get.
 
Sound isn't so bad, it's just not amazing but I guess it's ok by NDS standards. And visually speaking the game is very nice but the 3D will make some people laugh I guess.
 
imo the sound is good. nothing special, but good. the graphics too.
another code is the best game on the DS for me so far (in europe). i hope it sells good, so we can hope to see more games like this :)

Yoshi is really fun, in an oldschool arcadey way.
 
Don't believe anything you here time wise.

Adventure games are always different and yes of course if you pick up a FAQ you can finish the game pretty quickly. But then you loose the whole point of adventure games... solving puzzles.

Plus the amount of text is vast that reading it all will take a fair amount of time, and if you don't read it why are you playing the game anyway.

Great game with some great puzzles, there is one puzzle that IMO is worth the money of the game and of the DS :)

Interesting that they stuck with the Japanese title over there (it's called "Trace Memory" in America). I feel like I want to import it, but then, if it feels as rushed and sloppy as the UK Minish Cap did, maybe I'm better off waiting for the US version.
 
Wow I can finally post!

According to IGN this game got 10/9/8/8 in Famitsu, all reviews so far give it 8 or 9 on average, only Planet GC gave the Japanese version 7.5.

How was Minish Cap sloppy? Localization sucked?

The localization wasn't bad, though the US one was apparently better. But the UK version had some annoying bugs and interface issues that were fixed for the US and JP versions.
 
There is a spider sign on the back of the box, that's the 1st time I see it. I didn't know the game was supposed to be scary (for yound ppl only, though) in any way.

The game started up in french by default so I can't tell about the english version but so far it seems pretty good. The quality of the text is very decent and I didn't notice any bug.

(fuck it I'm stuck already, damn birds pictures)

Great game but I'm stuck - if anyone can help! I've done the wood-print picture puzzle (great puzzle by the way - best use of the DS yet!!) and got that tiny key, not sure what to do with the Angels and Instruments, don't know how to open that secret door at the end of the corridor. Help!!!!
 
Don't ask for help!!!

Play the game, have a break even a day then come back and with a rested mind you'll get it. Your killing the game if you ask for help >_<!

There is not one noticable bug in the PAL version of Minish Cap. The reason this whole view started is because of an interview with the US localisation team.

I don't know if they changed anything gameplay wise at all to be honest... for instance you can skip the light arrows and maybe one or two items if you're not careful in the PAL version.

I call bull. The game is short. I played for an hour or two last night, and a couple of hours this morning and reached the end of the game. The puzzles were very meh, the plot and dialogue likewise. And that's without any FAQs, because as far as I know there aren't any yet. I guess that's what you have to expect given the target market of the game, but I'd love to see something more at the Myst level of puzzles than the Resident Evil end, which is definitely where I'd put Another Code.
 
A Myst game would work quite well on DS actually... dunno why I've never considered that possibility before!

Who does it nowadays? Not Broderbund? Ubisoft was it?
 
I don't care how short it is, it's a original, semi-traditional adventure game with nice art. Hopefully they'll do a sequel or pseudo-sequel that improves on the gameplay, but I'm getting this come September.
 
I wish the US kept the name Another Code its just damn cool to see new things from Nintendo
I was hoping this game could continue into a franchise
