Here's the couple of important bits I wanted to point out:

Q: How is work with Microsoft Game Studio?
Miz: There are lots of advantages. This is the biggest team of people I've ever worked with, I'm surrounded by excellent staff. Because of this, I can manage things without any feeling of stress, enabling me to properly fulfil my role as a producer...

Q: Tell us something about the game you're working on at the moment.
Miz: I'm planning to make a dramatic action game, which players will remember for a long time. The genre and setting are still secret though.... I want to make a game that people will continue to play for a long time. I want to make something with a theme that will last forever.
So, I guess it's not a puzzle game :)

Hot damn! Whatever it is, I'm sure that Mizuguchi's musical sensibilities will be a big part of it, like everything else he's done.

the genre is secret? He just said action game :lol
Different concept of "genre" across languages.

For example, the genre of Katamari Damacy 2 was recently revealed to be "romantic" in a thread today. halo thar

Well you include a lot of different genres under the "action" bracket. Anyway, it's good to hear that he's doing something outside the realm of the totally bizarre for a change. Don't get me wrong I love Rez, but I'd like to see what he can do with a more "normal" genre...

I so love this man!

Interesting stuff, I did not know he was working on an action game. So that makes 2 RPG (Mistwalker), 2 action games (Okamoto + Mizuguchi), 1 party game (Okamoto). I've been told (but I don't have much information from Japan) that 2 of these should make it for the japanese launch. Ho, and it looks like they will stay exclusive for Japan for some time, so I'm already preparing (moneywise) for getting an import japanese X360...

I guess you're inadvertently saying we shouldn't hold out for region-free gaming in the next gen of consoles :(

I don't know where this rumor started, but it's ridiculous. I'd love to have a region-free system as much as anyone else, but this just would piss off lots of people in the gaming business. And it's something MS can't really afford just yet.

I'm pretty sure he produced the SEGA RALLY games. He's pretty talented. I love his left field work

Man, finally someone realized the potential of a sex simulator.

Region free hardware doesnt really mean anything, Xbox is region free too after all, its the publishers that really decide, and they always decide to region lock because otherwise importers screw up their sales numbers.

I feel this for Rez and Halo:CE

As long as it's not a beat 'em up crossbred with a music/rhythm game...ala West Side Story...
This needs to be tried at least once, and I'd rather have a good developer like Mizuguchi try it :)

I've always thought that Jet Set Radio, and specially JSRF with that combo system should have blended the music with the action, maybe rewarding the player for pulling off tricks with the rythm of the songs. In fact, the mood of the game made me already play like this (just like in Rez you end up shooting to the rythm, too).

So, if this new Mizuguchi game is anything like that, I'm absolutely in.

Well it's not a game that revolves around music:

Former Sega producer Tetsuya Mizuguchi has been the focus of media attention since Microsoft announced that he will be producing games for the next-generation Xbox. While Mizuguchi has been willing to talk about the motivations behind his entries, he's been silent about any of his upcoming projects. In a recent interview with Xbox's official Japanese Web site, however, Mizuguchi intimated that his new project will not focus on music.

This news is somewhat surprising, since Mizuguchi, the creator of Space Channel 5 and Rez, has become known for infectiously groovy music-related games.

"I want to challenge a new category since I get bored easily," said Mizuguchi in the interview. "When I previously made a music game after I created a racing game, people from all over the place asked me why I stepped into such a different direction. The reason is, I want to try my hands on various different [game] categories."

"I'm thinking of making an action game with an extreme amount of drama, which [I hope] will remain in the heart of its players," continued Mizuguchi. "I can't disclose its [exact] category and its world view yet, but it will contain a lot of first challenges for me. If there's one thing that can be said, it will be a game that want to continue for a long time. I hope to produce it with a theme that goes on for eternity."

You should realise by now just how... different... your gaming tastes are compared to most everyones.
actually mostly i disagree with him...but...that idea is brilliant. a musical beat-em-up. for great justice, it must be done.
anyway, mizuguchi's music taste is great, he likes thumping groovey stuff, good, so do i. but gameplay wise rez was too simplistic for me, i'd rather he make an actually interesting action game w/ good music, rather than a musical action game.
