Mods so good they warrant another playthrough

Angry Jazz Band GIF by Peacock

Arma 3 deserves to be installed just to mod the shit out of it. (It's the game that created DayZ and PUBG after all)

Arma 3 Anti Stasi (and it's variants)
Arma 3 RHS
Ace
Innumerous new maps, content missions, etc.

Brutal Doom

Anomaly (Stalker)

Skyrim full module Community shader with any PBR textures,(CS lights, DIAL Windows ultimate, grass shadows, collision, terrain shadows, etc) Gameplay mods like Legacy of the Dragonborn, etc.

Fallout New London...
Antistasi is awesome... I just wish we'd have a AAA realization of that mode.

A co-op large scale persistent war where the two AI factions actually tries to take and defend land also

We've had battle bore-yals and snoozextraction shooters.

Its time for the antistasi future

Any mod recommendations for Cyberpunk 2077? First blind playthrough

This keeps it minimal. More enjoyable for me, personally.

Better textures don't warrant a new playthrough personally, my backlog is already too large to do it again just because it got better graphics.
I hear you. I guess I said it wrong. I just want some new games that already have really good mods. I'm glad I made this though bc I'm seeing some really good ones that aren't even graphics related.

The [AB+|Rep(+)] External Item Descriptions mod for The binding of Isaac's is a must have mod, to the point where a similar functionality was added in an official patch just a few months ago, so console players can enjoy the convenience. Unsurprisingly the most popular item on the Steam workshop for the game.
There's over 700 items in the game and one wrong item could potentially ruin your run.

I played 478h of vanilla Stardew valley. If I play it again, I'll probably do so with Stardew Valley Expanded. It adds new areas, re-imagined world, date-able NPC like the JojoMart cashier lady.
... and a mod which adds a 24h clock, the AM/PM stuff confuses me.

Final fantasy ix moguri mod,
So much love and effort for free for many final fantasy ix mods, Square Enix should feel ashamed.

Forgot about this one.

I would also add the mod that's adding voice to all dialogues.

ECHO-9 S, I think.

It's hard even to explain to someone that never played Arma 3 or was away of the Arma 3 mod scene.

Think of a open world persistent civil war game where you have to win population favor, procure/steal weapons/vehicle/resources, build bases, equip your troops, capture small road checkpoint...

As you progress it will eventually escalate to huge battles where you will drive tanks, flying helicopters and command large forces trying to capture entire cities, military bases, airports, etc

It's something like Battlefield meets GTA meets Total War.

Still don't know how no one stole the concept into a full fledge game.

(I know... No one is completely enough to create anything robust enough like Arma to support something like this)

Not only that but you also have built in survival and technically extraction (roguelike) mechanics into the game with base building, sourcing/looting and keeping equipment you find and you can even throw settlement mechanics on top with hiring different defensive forces to protect bases and so on.

You are right that nothing really matches the open end scale and sandbox that arma provides though.

There really isnt any other game where you hear a helicopter flying above like you experience in arma, or distant gunfire of a war in another city. I know that sounds strange but those who've played arma. Arma3 in particular know what I mean.

Squad is the closest at capturing that sort of sandbox military nature but its not really as wide or open as arma

Waiting on a modder to finish his Joel mod including voice lines to rebuy TLOU2 on PC and play through the whole game as him. Can't wait for the boat scene. Hnnnng

The A Game of Thrones mod for Crusader Kings 2 is incredible. The CK game mechanics capture the feeling of ASOIAF so well where you're building alliances through arranging marriages with other powerful families, managing your court, going to war and hatching schemes. There's a bunch of different time periods to play through so you can do Aegon's Conquest, The Dance of the Dragons, The Blackfyre Rebellion, Robert's Rebellion or the events of the main series. You can play as a notable character in the series or a minor lord and just do your own thing. The map doesn't just cover Westeros but Essos too.

I've not played much of the CK3 version yet but it also seems great.

Another mod that comes to my mind is RDR2 with complete walk control

It adds more speeds in between walking and jogging to Arthur and John which makes the movement so much better and far less clunkier

It sounds silly but its really a game changer, you can't get go back to vanilla after trying it out

The Europa Barbarorum mod for Rome: Total War renders vanilla utterly obsolete. Seriously, there's absolutely no reason to touch the base game again unless you really just want to listen to Jeff Van Dyck's excellent soundtrack, because not only did the mod team definitively improve the graphical appearance of the game, add a ton of unique units for each faction (and add more factions, besides), deepen the strategic gameplay experience, and throw in literally hundreds of pages' worth of historical knowledge that you can read through ... they even composed a bunch of music tracks for each culture. I will never stop gushing their praises.

I can't really capture what sets this mod apart with just a screenshot, so I'll instead post its main menu theme:

Wasteland Reborn - mod pack for Fallout New Vegas

Tales of Two Wastelands - combines New Vegas and Fallout 3 in one

AC unity mod posted by Gonzito Gonzito

Watch Dogs Living_City

LoreOut for Fallout 4

And then there's countless of proper and vanilla friendly overhauls/adjustments for any TES game
Primarily TES Daggerfall Unity is amazing.

Darthmod for Total War: Napoleon

I can go on for a while, but gotta leave some so others (hopefully) post them.

Keep up and post them if you don't see them. I'll check these out for sure

Surprised no one has mentioned XCOM: Long War mod
Mu6A2AAtQ0G97Yx9.png

Mod was so good at structurally expanding + re-balancing the game the team got contracted/paid to make mods for XCOM 2, and formed their own studio Pavonis Interactive that just released their first commercial game this month:

Fallout London, replayed it a few times already, brilliant conversion mod
That's good to hear. I have it in my GOG library. But I still haven't have touched it since my backlog is getting bigger and bigger...

BTW Polish modders have some pretty good Gothic 2 mods, since remake is approaching it might be a good thing to check it out:

The Chronicles of Myrtana is such a fantastic mod, have to return to it for sure.

Elden Ring: Convergence Mod. The perfect way to replay Elden Ring. All legacy dungeons are new, new bosses, new classes, 200 spells and lots of weapons and enemies etc. Especially with Seamless coop. A WAY better spinoff than Nightreign imo

Doom 2 Ray traced is the ultimate Doom experience imo

XWVM - a full on remake in Unity with full modern controller support of X-Wing. They are working on adding Tie Fighter (which is MUCH better)

Looking to play this now Quake Brutalist Jam 3

A 80 level new campaign to Quake with new weapons, levels, enemies etc.

Any Bethesda game really, can't list all interesting mods but Skyrim VR with HIGGS and VRIK is a transformative experience.

And Returnal with Samus Aran as the man character essentially turns it into a 3rd person Metroid. Make sure to grab the free reconstructor mod too to have a Metroid save room.

The mod has been (near) completely redone since that video and looks even better now btw.

That looks great. Is it easy to install?
You just need

You can easily download all mods you want from the launcher/mod manager. Have a look. There's a few more on Nexus that are fully compatible with it as well.

I'll add here Total War: Rome 2 DEI (Divide et Impera).

I'm actually interested in this. I finished Elden Ring and got all the achievements, but this mod looks solid enough to justify reinstalling it.

That said, I usually bounce off fan overhauls pretty fast. I think most of them are honestly terrible

Nobody's done Mass Effect yet. There's like a billion, so I'm going to focus on LE1 here:

There's the Community Patch:

As with any big fix project for rpgs a near necessaity. Fixes a ton of bugs and in the process also restores some content hidden behind them.

The Diversification Project

Videos showcase it better (There's a lot more changes as well, check the Mod Page), but aside from overhauling the NPC population (including unique npc appearances and armors), restores a ton of content as well as overhauls the game a bit.

Pinnacle Station

Restores/Recreates and improves the original Mass Effect DLC.

Hot Labs Restored

The Hot Labs area in the game was massively cut down from its original intent. This mod restores it as best it could based on left-over files.

And as a Bonus (Not really ready yet so I don't recommend it.)

Caleston Restored

For the old heads here, remember how in almost all of the early Mass Effect 1 trailers they talked about Caleston and when Mass Effect 1 came out it was nowhere to be found? Instead we got a very short Liara rescue mission on Therum, especially compared to the other Planets? Well, this mod is an attempt to restore it. Attempt being the operative word as its not finished and still pretty empty. You're best off taking a look at this a few years from now.

This mod feels like something From would have created themselves - especially for people that have already completed Elden ring. It kind of skips the slow start and gives you vastly different classes to start with (which their own small quests for special items/spells + the world open from the start but different start locations for each class

I have played through the mod several times with different classes - kind of like speed-elden ring

It's really good but you start out underleveled and the enemies are pretty challenging. I consider myself a pretty good from soft player but it challenged me. I still recommend it and I need to go back to it myself.

What a great idea for a thread. Lots of really good recommendations so far as well.

I suggest Red Dead Redemption 2.

With Terrain Texture Overhaul (replaces terrain textures with much higher resolution versions throughout the world):
2189-1735288802-774068149.jpeg

Xtreme grass (fills out tall grass/shrubbery/etc.. throughout the world in a realistic way):

Upscaled All-In-One megapack (covers everything else -- foliage, animals/wildlife/characters/items/etc..):

1949-1674254526-976533139.png

Pair the above with:

  • one of the many LOD mod options (that dramatically increase level of detail/draw distance so that the entire world feels more detailed and alive)
  • RenoDX to fix the HDR
  • Nvidia's newly released DLSS 4.5

.... and you have a version of Red Dead Redemption 2 that feels like a complete remaster of the original game.

Tale of Two Wastelands.

Basically combining FO3 and FONV but it's more than that.

It essentially lets you play FO3 on FONV gameplay engine. Meaning multiple bullet types, hardcore mode, crafting, gun mods, NV perks, DT/DR system, increased max level, NV skill types etc.

I suppose FO3 is getting a remaster soon similar to Oblivion but I really can't go back to FO3 gameplay after using FONV gameplay on it.

Hell yeah this was the kind of post I was looking for originally. I've wanted to do another playthrough now that I have a PC

I hate modding Mass Effect. Its such pain in the ass, specially textures and how if you install them, then you cant add anything else or it breaks the game. Ugh I love Mass Effect but I hate this part

Man the Xtremegrass is a game changer. It makes the game feel next gen.

The only issue with modding RDR2 is the spawn bug, if you add a lot of textures you might get this bug and its annoying because the game still works but the world feels more empty with less people around.

It's definitely tricky and I recommend anyone installing mods in rdr2 to not install too many
