Wario Land creator Hirofumi Matsuoka has officially resigned from Nintendo Co., Ltd. Matsuoka was one of the original Nintendo R&D1 designers responsible for such classic games like Metroid, Kid Icarus, and Balloon Fight. Matsuoka's first major involvement came with the design of the Super Mario Land series for the Game Boy. The Super Mario Land series evolved into Matsuoka's most famous creation, Wario Land. Not only is Wario Land renown for being an excellent platformer, but it created Nintendo's most famous anti-hero who goes by the name of Wario.

Hirofumi Matsuoka also served as director on classics like Super Mario Paint, Mario Artist: Paint Studio, Mario Artist: Polygon Studio, and Wario Ware Inc: Mega Microgame$.

Hirofumi Matsuoka has joined the development staff of Creatures Inc. Matsuoka is reunited with former R&D1 colleague Hirokazu Tanaka, who is currently the head of the company. Creatures is a studio connected directly with Nintendo Co., Ltd and The Pokemon Company. They are intimately involved in the production of artwork for The Pokemon animation series as well as the development of game software. Matsuoka will still be making games for Nintendo; he just won't be developing the games within Nintendo. Does this mean Matsuoka will be working on the next game in the Pokemon series or instead a brand new Creatures-developed title...?

It's like, even if they leave Nintendo, they still pretty much are Nintendo's bitches. They know better. Nintendo made an example out of Gunpei Yokoi, RIP.

Wow.

If you're referring to his involvement with the virtual boy, you're being far too cynical.

I'm joking, but I'm sorry... it was pretty tasteless. There's some stupid joke about how Nintendo's like some sort of mafia and that's why Gunpei died. Obviously, that was NOT the real reason...

Oh. :lol

I was going to say "But Yokoi helped create the WonderSwan" :lol

Yeah the Microsoft to Rare move is a good analogy. He's just not receiving a paycheck directly from Nintendo anymore.
I fail to see the analogy/connection/similarity.

I'm not sure I follow.

Edit: Oh I see. All tasteless jokes aside what are the odds of Yamauchi having anything to do with Gunpei's death? Is it at all substantiated of him having ties with the underworld?

Yeah, I can't remember who it was that put it but there was a thread waaaay back on the OT like Conan's "In the year 2000" predictions, but having to do with gaming. One that was posted was:

In the year 2000:

Hiroshi Yamauchi will leave Nintendo to start a new fledgling company. Ironically, he will hit himself with his own car.

Its ok. I still laughed. Funny can't be denied, even when its tasteless.

What's wrong with you, man?

It was kinda funny.

Oh so he leaves Nintendo and joins the subsidiary Creatures, Inc? K, thanks.

This post loses. Leaving his position in Nintendo for a position in Creatures is like a person leaving their position in Time Warner for a position in a Time Warner subsidiary. In short, he didn't leave Nintendo.

Is this why that screen of the new Wario game looked like crap?

Seriously, Wario is a second rate anti-hero motherfucker. One of the many Ninty money grubbing whores that needs to be rubbed out, so all's well in my solitary little cranium. :)

And Wario Land is esp. one of the worst games featuring one of the most annoying characters I've ever played. PEACE.

Hopefully this doesn't mean he'll be working only on Pokemon stuff.

Wario Land 4 = The best platformer since Yoshi's Island
