As someone who coaches tons of girls in sports, I'll just say it's different as a guy. I get girls flirting with me way to often, especially 15-18 year olds. Girls don't keep their mouths shut, any guy knows that and would be stupid to make a move because it will bite you in the ass.

For women/ girls it's a big game. They want to see if you will cross a line of being inappropriate. I'm amazed so many female teachers are risking it, you think they would learn.
 
Not too far from where I live. I had a friend that quit teaching high school because a female student tried to blackmail him into getting higher grades. He quit shortly after that and has no regrets. Public education will continue to get worse.

When its a male teacher, the response is supposed to be "What a monster!" and "He must have taken advantage of her"

Seriously, we had a music teacher who was insanely hot and everyone wanted a piece untill she revealed her boyfriend was some huge good looking rugby player. Why would you fuck some annoying teenager.

She told him to change a grade to a higher grade. He said no because he felt like in his professional she got the grade she deserved. She ripped her blouse and said, "You'll change it now." The only reason he wasn't investigated or fired is because a janitor happened to see the entire thing.
 
Of the men they showed in that slide show, all of them were involved with young children. Not that I think sleeping with a 16 year old boy is okay, but I do view it way differently than I view touching young children.
 
In my senior year my math teacher used to run her hands through my hair. Oddly enough, two different teachers were accused of sexual assault and one of them will probably spend the rest of their life in prison.

The age of consent is 16 in Canada. That's the minimum at which it should be. Presuming that 16 and 17 year-olds are not smart enough to make decisions regarding sexual encounters is ridiculous and condescending as fuck. There shouldn't be an exception for teacher-student relationships either. Leave this to the school. The government should not intervene.

In the United States, there is the attitude that public school students should be able to invest ultimate trust and confidence in their teachers, with the expectation that they will have their teachers' support.

Obviously this trust is routinely breached, and most students would say that they don't have their teachers' full support, but I think that if sex is thrown into the mix this trust is breached.

Given the difference in standing between a student and teacher, a sexual relationship will never allow them to be equal. The teacher will always in some way be dominant, perhaps just because of their age and experience. Teacher-student relationships are then always problematic, especially because many teachers will inevitably use either sex or grades as bargaining tools for their students to buckle to their desires.

I'm don't think sex with students should be a criminal offense, but it certainly should not be tolerated.

Bingo. This woman's life will be forever changed if she is found guilty, and the consequences of the sentence will be felt long after she's done purging it. It sucks. As I said, the only thing that should happen to her is that she is silently fired from her post. No need to involve the government or the media.

My high school chemistry teacher had sex with a senior in the class above me. Some people caught them out on a date at an ice cream place once, it was rather hilarious. That never made it to the news or anything though.

Happened in mine. There was a group of young substitute teachers who woukd throw parties invite students over and have sex with them. It was actually a big scandal when the news broke. Had news vans all over the school.

Well, most of the time people have more sense than this, but you'll always see this kind of thing because people like to fuck each other. A lot of religions over the years have tried and failed to stop people from fucking each other.
 
As a service to teachers everywhere I will be setting up an organization where they can fuck me instead, in simulated classrooms and playgrounds
