back in AC I got a ding in the windshield that soon turned into a single crack that has grown it started at one edge, and will soon each another. What happens then?

Obviously I need to pony up the dough for the replacement repair, so anyone have a clue as to my options in the most general sense?

Also how much does tinting cost cause if im getting my windows done I might as well spend money I dont have on that too :(

Cant drive a car without a window..well I can but the garbage bag look is played out.

A windshield replacement is a couple of hundred dollars, if memory serves. Be sure you go to a good place, because if you get a bad seal, you'll regret it later.

Most places will come to your work (assuming they have access to your garage or parking lot) and do the replacement onsite. It takes a couple of days for the glue to fully dry, so you'll need to keep it out of the rain and not remove the tape until then.

We have covered parking so I could have my roommate switch for a few days. Ill hold off on tinting, maybe next christmas hehe

thanks for the input.

It's a state law here in KY I believe that your insurance must pay for the replacement of a windshield. Might wanna check into that.

Normally if you catch windshield damage early enough, your insurance company will have it fixed for free. But if you've waited until its spread across the windshield you're screwed. Get your new one from a body shop as many times they will sell you a replacement warranty if anything happens to THAT windshield. I've had that happen to me once here in Atlanta where I replaced a windshield only to have to replace it about 4 months later due to some road construction foolishness.

My glass deductable is WAY to high to cover even a replacement. I already pay 167 a month cause the car is financed. I couldnt afford to lower the deductable.

I'm in your boat. My deductable is 500 bucks for a windshield... I've found replacements for about 150 bucks or so, but I also have a truck so its not very curved. I dont know if that affects price or not, but it might.

Tint - $150-200
Mine cost $70 altogether with labor. It's two sides, one rear and the windshield, but he quoted me that price for the car regardless of what windows I got done. I'd say you can find $90-100 from a reputable place that offers a warranty on the tint here. I'd imagine AZ and other southern states should charge the same. Tint is a necessity in these climates.

As for the windshield damage. You're fucked. Had the same thing happen in my Excel years back. It started off small, but I waited until winter, and one day with the heater on, me and my friend watched the crack slowly crawl its way to the other side of the windshield as I drove home. Got it appraised and he told me the same thing about catching it early and getting it fixed on the cheap. But it was past that and needed a replacement.

I'm not encouraging insurance fraud, but I know that when I got my Progressive policy, they never appraised/inspected the car. Neither of the carS actually. They gave me a rate based on the VIN and that's it. So I picked my deductibles and stuff and could theoretically claim lots of damage on the cars. What I'm saying is that if your policy is one of the online ones where they don't have a photo record of your car, you could try and adjust your deductible say today, and then file the claim next month or so. Presto, no $500 cost, maybe a bit of a rate hike for a couple of months, but there's no reason you couldn't change your deductibles back later on. I've changed my policy twice in two months now, and still no pictures taken or other inquiries. PEACE.
