Ok, so tomorrow I'm supposed to get all 4 of them out. My mom tells me that I shoud have only 2 of them removed and wait for that side to heal and then get the other 2 out . How many of you have had all 4 taken out at 1 time? I do want all 4 out so I won't have to go back but if its that painful and bohtersome then I can do multiple visits.

My fellow summer student was going to have his out this week, but then my boss' elderly mother told him it was all a sham, and he felt like partying instead of recovering, so he cancelled the appointment.

I had my 4 out at the same time...I'm not sure what having two of them out will do other than be incapacitated in some form for a longer period of time. I personally didn't have much in the way of discomfort or pain outside of the issue of what exactly I could eat, but I would have been annoyed to have gone through even half the process twice.

I had all 4 taken out simultaneously.
Might as well get them all at once.

Some people experience pain, some don't. It's really luck of the draw I think.

Personally, the 2-3 days after I got mine taken out (and especially the few hours after I woke up from the drugs) were hell. My face was swollen. My mouth HURT. I was throwing up blood. And of course I couldn't eat anything so my stomach hurt. Worse, I had a huge headache: possibly from dehydration and all my other discomforts.

Enjoy!

Must say though, it heals pretty quickly.

1 of them, top right , its partial extraction. The two bottom ones, they have to cut a piece of bone to get to them..I don't know..I'm scared. I've had major head surgery and ear surgery and I'm more sacred now.....

Okay, I just had mine pulled, did all 4 at once, but from what you're saying, it sounds like one side at a time may be the best idea.

Fuck that. I'm still healing up after getting all 4 pulled at once, and it wasn't that bad. Bottom 2 for me were impacted and required some definite effort to get out. I was conscious for the whole thing (medical grade nitrous rocks) and definitely remember the sound and vibrations of a saw of some sort. Still, it was a pretty fast and painless procedure. The first day was pretty rough with the blood and numbness, but the drugs are good and it wasn't even two days before I was back on a relatively normal diet. Actually, things seemed to heal so fast for me that I was probably a little careless when it came to returning to my normal food and smoking habits, and for a few days I thought I had allowed dry socket to take hold. Don't do that. Now (it's been a week and a half) the only bothersome thing is food getting stuck back there (and the fact that seeing exposed jawbone at the bottom of the extraction sites grosses me out).

So yeah. Long story short. Make it easy on yourself and save a trip. Do 4 at once!

I'll be put to sleep so It will be fast. I'm sure if it were dangerous the doctor would not perform it....we'll see.

Getting knocked out is the way to go. I have a horrible gag reflex so I had them knock me out. The instant you fall under you wake up. its so weird. You dont even remember being out. Sorta creepy actually.

I had mine pulled out in November. No pain at all, and I wasn't even knocked out. Just good old novacaine. Only problem I had was that one of the lower ones was impacted and had pushed it's way under the jaw bone, so they had to chip a bit of my lower jaw off to get the tooth out. Caused quite a lot of swelling.

There's really no point in getting it done half and half. If it doesn't end up causing pain, you're just wasting time by doubling how long you'll spend recovering. If it does end up being painful, well, what's the point of wanting to go through it twice?

The only thing you really need to be careful with when getting wisdom teeth pulled is knowing where the nerves run in your lower jaw. Mine were sitting really low which is good, since the extractions didn't cause any nerve damage. If your nerves are running higher, closer to the teeth, it's possible you might lose a little bit of sensation in your chin. Other than that there usually aren't any complications with the actual surgery part of things.

why are you asking us losers for advice over your DENTIST? If he wants to take all 4 out, let him go for it. Wisdom teeth threads should be banned. Seriously, its such a minor procedure. Go in and get it done, stop worrying.

Yeah if you're young(ish) I'd get them all taken out at once. No need to drag out the recovery process longer than normal. When I was 20 I got my wisdoms out AND my tonsils out in the same procedure. So there! Anyway, it wasn't bad, just took a few days to be 100% again.

i got all 4 taken out at once, flushed the vicoden they gave me down the toilet and by that night i was eating BBQ ribs. Then again, im a real man. I can't expect you guys to rise to the incredible bar i've set.

I was in the exact same position as you are last Sunday night, except I wasn't really worried about it. I got mine out a week ago, the first day SUUUUCKS, it hurts, you can't really eat anything, and you are really dehydrated. My top two were fine they just needed to be pulled, already out and everything, one of my bottom ones was impacted and the other was like halfway through. Honestly I was OK by Wednesday more or less, you can't eat normally for a few days and you might need the painkillers but maybe not. Everyone reacts differently. The only thing that bothers me now is my gigantic holes in the back bottom of my mouth. I use a squirt gun thing to clean it out after I eat, which is hardcore ghetto but still works pretty well.

All I'd say in terms of advice is just do all 4, tough it out for a few days, then do what you can. For two days I ate nothing but smoothies and apple juice, then the 3rd day I had pasta, after that I started slowly eating more and more. I'm a little sore every day but hopefully a family member of yours doesn't steal 1/5 of your medicine like my brother did and you'll be able to use it as long as you need to. By the way, you'll feel ridiculous after waking up and probably say some hilarious things to people, I know I did.

Well all four of them are out and it fucking sucks!! At first it was nothing but as soon as the drug effects went bye bye....oh man..it really hurts. I can't swallow and bleeding seems like it doesn't want to sop = (

Just hang in there dude. I got all four pulled out a couple of years ago. Just zone out for a couple of days. Don't smoke - it could create air pockets in the gums. Nasty!

The weird thing is my wife has no wisdom teeth whatsoever so she never had or will have to experience this!

Ice pack man ICE PACKS. That is the secret. I just grabbed something from the freezer and put it on my jaw and oh man..the pain and bleeding is gone. I'm eating some Jello right now = )

I had mine out last Monday. I was sick all night the first night, but then I stopped bleeding into my own mouth and things improved rapidly after that. I only used two Vicodins total. Now I'm just having trouble with food getting in the holes... grrr.
