Ant-Man |OT| Is It Too Late To Change The Name?

Movie was solidly ok.

Not the disruptive game changer of Cap 2, not mess of Thor 2.

It sits solidly at top of the mid tier Phase 2 flicks with Ultron and IM3 a little below them.

The Hope/Hank relationship got to me more than I was expecting.

I wanted a little more interaction with the big world.

The ants were cute. I actually wasn't expecting what happened to Antony.

The humor wasn't great, but it actually worked here instead of undercutting any tension. Ultron and the last Ironman were horrible with that.

The literal last minute love plot was kind of weak. And Cross was undercooked. The idea of your father figure rejecting you for someone you consider a scumbag seemed like it had huge dramatic potential, that was wasted to turn him into a villain that ties children to traintracks. That shot where
he wanted to cry at Pym HQ exploding
was great, Movie needed more of them.

I was expecting cop fiance to be a dick through the whole movie, so that was a pleasant surprise.

The very last stinger got me more excited in 30 seconds than the last two full Marvel flicks. Bring on Phase 3.

PS. What was up with Hope's haircut? She was a black robot-woman, Claire from Jurassic World was the orange robot-woman and she had the exact same do.
This is how wasp looks in the old comics:

Just got done watching and think it's easily on par with the better marvel films. What has me most excited is ant man should finally bring some variety into the avengers assemble. Something other than flying/strength.

"Sorry! Oof! Sorry...sorry!" "I'm a big fan! Sorry!"

I didn't think this movie was that great, unfortunately. Probably Hulk/Dark World/Iron Man 2 low tier. I think there was definitely a good movie in there - the action sequences were fantastic and the humor during those was excellent. Unfortunately the rest of the movie kind of suffered from too much exposition and humor that fell flat to me. Paul Rudd did a good job as Lang though, so while I'm not sure I'd see an Ant-Man 2, I'm looking forward to him interacting in other movies.

Best part of the movie though:
It's not a keychain.
One of the best uses of Chekhov's Gun in a LONG time. I died laughing.

My top 5:

TWS>Avengers1>GotG>IM1>Ant-Man

Saw Ant-Man yesterday and it was a great movie!! Great cast, story and pacing!

Just got back. Loved it from top to bottom. I was worried that so many clips and commercials were going to spoil half of it, but luckily there was a ton more movie left.

Planning on going to see it again soon. But if I was in a ranking mood, Ant-Man would be way up there right now.

WS > GotG > Ant-Man > Cap1 > Avengers > a bunch of others in a big pile

Cap1 over Avengers??? That's the 1st I seen of that!!!

Hmm, I must be in a small minority that actually thinks Avengers 1 is one of the weakest Marvel movies.

It just seemed like fan service wankery and a mostly forgettable plot and forgettable action set pieces. As a piece of filmmaking it was honestly below average for me.

I pretty much preferred most of the other Marvel movies before and since over Avengers.

Just got back. I would give it a B-. Paul Rudd was great but I thought the rest of the acting was a little more ham-fisted than usual, even for a marvel movie. Effects were pretty solid! Loved the shrinking and growing.

OK so seriously what are you guys taking about in terms of humor? I don't think I laughed once during the movie. I understand liking the premise and the action, but man did all the dialogue feel awkward in a bad way.

Okay. So today Antman seems to be doing helluva good time in the box office. The battle with Minions will be a close one. Yesterday the numbers were not looking great. Not bad but not good and behind minions. I don't remember the number exactly but it was pretty depressing walking into theaters yesterday seeing the theater 30% full to 60% full for Antman and nearly soldout for Minions.

Today on the other hands...was REALLY good. So far today the total general admits have been (Antman/Minions):

781/402

Word of mouth needs to get around more! It's doing good and I think if tomorrow has a good surge, it'll pass Minions if is a fight though!

Going to see this again tonight.

Idk man. We just have different opinions.

Said it before, but I thought Paul Rudd was very good. This included his comedic bits. However, I didn't like
the sidekicks very much and I found some of the acting between Hope and Hank to be very cheesy. The buildup to their "father daughter breakthrough" was nonexistent.

:( the idea that it's even close is sad. Minions are the worst.

Where you seeing this?

I came in to the theater 2-3 mins late and worried I might not get the middle seat, but to my surprised the theater was almost empty

I hope its just because there was another antman showing 45 mins before it

I guess. I mean I'm really glad that the character is sticking around because I love the shrinking dynamic. It's just bizarre to me because this is the only MCU movie that I wanted to end before it was over and the first movie in over a decade where I thought about leaving the theater, which I've never done.

There is nothing wrong about feeling that way. I have felt that way for movies before and it's nothing to lose sleep over. You enjoy what you enjoy.

I liked it quite a bit. Fun little detour.

lol @ the rationalizations of the box office. It's a strange property that wasn't marketed quite as well as Guardians, it's understandable that it would not hit as hard as some Marvel movies. It's still going to do okay.

Cool movie. Loved the ant stuff. The action was neat and inventive, not just spectacle.

I'm glad the final act had lower, personal stakes and wasn't just a watered down Avengers-like battle.

I thought the cast nailed the comedy beats too. Rudd and that Hispanic guy were great.

Movie was ok. If this ended up being Marvel's first flop it wouldn't surprise me. Went to my local theatre where opening week of any Marvel movie garners at least a half full theatre, went to an afternoon show and it was me and 5 other people...

Michael Douglas was great.

Thought the movie was good. Only thing that bugged me was how Cross apparently tested on himself? Or does his particles have some exposure effect like radiation?

Otherwise, it was a fun movie.

Marvel still needs to develop their villains better. Best one-off villain is still Obadiah Stane.

Just got out.

Really good as not only a comic movie, but as a straight popcorn flick. Paul Rudd was a fantastic lead, and felt like the movie didn't have the by committee feel of previous Marvel movies. People who said it was a Marvel Ocean's Eleven were correct. It felt like a heist flick with a superhero angle.

Somewhat off topic, but T.I. in this movie kinda threw me for a loop. Still, it makes me think he's trying to do a Ludacris style acting jump.

Also, Michael Douglas with probably the best supporting role in any Marvel movie up to this point? He outclassed everyone when he was on screen.

I love wankery. :(

No I agree too but I still like it more than some of the others because it was fun fan service.

It felt like Iron Man meets Honey I Shrunk The Kids.

That is NOT a complaint. The movie was awesome and funny.

I can't believe "Ant-Man" is my favorite superhero movie of this year. Only six years ago, I would have laughed at anyone even suggesting Ant-Man could be made... let alone be GOOD.

Reflecting on it after my second viewing today, what I loved about the film is that it's typical Marvel fun but not in a way I've seen before. It felt both familiar and new at the same time, much like Guardians but in a completely different way.

I'd still put it below CA:WS, Avengers, GotG, and Iron-Man but probably on par with CA:FA and AoU. High-Mid tier MCU flick that I think will continue to hold up for me with time.

Funny how Marvel at their most grounded (Daredevil) and Marvel at their weirdest (Antman) were better than Marvel just being Marvel (AoU).

Work at the biggest theater of North Houston.

Honestly fuck Minions. I thought the movie was decent to bad but after I've seen that the Minions are making it a contest? FUCK THAT MOVIE

I liked the minions. Also minions are huge with kids.

Anyways glad to hear antman is doing okay. Antman is such a great film

I love me some Cap1, what can I say?
I don't blame you.=p

I do prefer various other Marvel movies over it, but found it so fun and memorable, plus dat finale!!!

Cap1 is a great movie. Very underrated.
Agreed!!!

Quite enjoyable, if not entirely surprising. Villian was probably the weakest part, the threat just often isn't there.
More interested in Hope being an Avenger.
