I've been a norton fan for years but 2004 seems to be a huge resource fan. On my PC it runs fine(except for slow document openings), but on my older laptop it's an INCREDIBLY huge different it's like a friggin tortoise now starting up.

Some reviews seem to say PC-Cillin Internet Security is a strong package this year.

Any recommendations?

Norton sucks.

You as a network admin should know that PC-Cillin pwns. Its not a resource hog, loads instantly and has a firewall built in. The firewall isn't super paranoid about every site you visit like ZoneAlarm either :D

Just be careful with progs like Spybot S&D and Ad-aware. If you delete registry keys that it thinks are exploits, the auto-update feature will NOT work, even if you uninstall.

I've been using Norton for agers too but I've tried a program called NOD32. Uses very little system resources and scans for viruses very quickly. You won't even know the virus definitions are updating and completed until you get a pop up box stating that they are. It's very unintrusive :)

PC-Cillin is a solid program. You can also try out AVG Anti-Virus, pretty decent, and it's totally free.

Panda Platinum. It's the most full-featured firewall/anti-virus I've found that doesn't take up a lot of resources and doesn't get annoyingly intrusive while still protecting you. It also puts a cute panda icon in your system tray.

I used AVG until that post with the file that had a gazillion viruses in it and it failed to detect a lot of them. I switched to AntiVir and haven't had any complaints.

AVG is cool we used it at the non-profit I just left... my only problem with it... is that while it's great at detecting... it's not always that great at removing.... I'll used Pc-cillin YEARS ago so I'll probably give it a shot, unless I can find my old Norton 2003 disc....

I use AVG and Avast! from Awil software. Awil is a Czech-based company, and Avast is free for home/non-commercial use. Its actually pretty good.
