Bob Marley’s fantastic. By far my favorite artist of all time, and arguably a great prophet as well.

I know a lot of people associate his image with pot smoking, and he definitely did do a lot of that, but there’s a lot more to him and his music. He rejected much of the politics on both sides taking place right now and described the workings of the world in a way that was remarkably accurate.

For someone active in the 80’s, it’s also amazing that his music doesn’t feel outdated in the slightest. I probably have about 30 favorite songs of his but the first that come to mind are:

  • Sun is Shining
  • We and Dem
  • Three Little Birds
  • Satisfy my Soul
  • Punky Reggae Party
  • Natural Mystic
One love, fellow GAFers!

Back in the days I used to listen to Bob Marley all the time. "Buffalo Soldier" was the first song i heard ....and i was instantly hooked. "Stir it up", "Three little birds" and "Buffaloe Soldier" are my favorit songs from Bob.
Beeing a teenager in the 90s and enjoing life, discovering weed and just dreaming about the future while listening to Marley was just awesome. Good times. Times that are gone forever.
The greatest hits album "Legend" is a masterrpiece. It may be the greates compilation every produced.

Never been much of a reggae fan, or Bob Marley lover, although he has a couple of nice songs under his belt, I'll admit that.

But I traveled once to Jamaica with a friend (she is huge reggae fan, so she kinda pulled me into it as well) and it was an amazing experience to be in the land of reggae. We visited Bob Marley's home, and they even had a tour guide there that was telling us about his life in Jamaica and abroad. There were all sorts of memorabilia there, from his childhood to adolescence to his adult years. Nothing was touched. Even the fucking bullet holes from an assassination attempt was still intact in his living room (Bob Marley was apparently subjected to lots of threats due to his fame and money).

We also visited the legendary Tuff Gong Studio, where Bob recorded most of his songs. We even got to see a local up and coming artist record one of his songs and an engineer mixing it later. That was really cool.

Jamaica treated Bob as a national treasure. which doesn't come as a surprise since he is the most famous person from there, and they sure took advantage of his legendary status to sell as many things they could using his name and face. Everywhere you went on the island, you could feel his presence. I have never seen a country who treasures a single man like this, he is basically God himself.

I actually visited Bob Marley's House back in 2003, as well as his Grave (which also houses his Brother).

His Bedroom was literally like....6 feet by 12 feet all around, and he used a Large Rock to rest on and make his tunes.

It was great stuff but sadly they moved his Grave to Ethiopia.

How does he like his Sandwiches?
