Any freeware to reduce image resolution?

I have a shit-ton of digital photos I'd like to email or upload, but they're all roundabout the 2MB mark at present. Previously I've been able to use a friends copy of Photoshop to slash the resolution and therefore the size, but I'm now on the road and don't have that option. I stupidly presumed MS Photoeditor would allow me to do the same thing ... am I now being stupid in presuming there's some software floating around out there that will let me resize my jpegs?

Any leads or advice much appreciated,

~B

Since I can't create a new topic yet, I guess this is a good place to post this...

What program do I need to get that slick looking calender/weather/rss thing on my desktop?

Awesome, awesome responses, thank you all. I'm going to give irfanview a shot, since I've heard good things about it previously, but it's good to know there are other options out there too - cheers. Now to negotiate a means of installing it on either my PC at work, or the one owned by the manager of the hostel I'm staying in ...

KnotLikely, you're welcome to use this thread for your enquiry, since I've got what I was looking for ... I don't know what your chances will be unless you get a mod to change my title, though. My advice is to go and make 100 stupid posts in the gaming forum.

Anybody have a program to batch post 100 "i am crys" in the gaming forum? I think I would fit right in... :lol

If you can't download and install anything (obviously you can right now but just in case when you are stuck on a comp without admin previlages or internet connection), there's always MS Paint:

IMAGE > Strech/Skew (Ctrl + W) > type in percentage of reduction.

BTW, Protip: When reducing an image, you DO NOT resize to the target res in one shot. You do it several steps. You first reduce the pic using 2:1 or 4:1 ratio, then see if the target res is within reach without further division into 2 or 4 (e.g. from 2048x1536, a typical 3MP pic, to 1024x768, then to 800x600). The reason for this is that the best looking reduction method is bicubic resampling, and bicubic resampling adds unwanted aliasing when not using reduction factor of 2 or 4 in the initial reduction.
