Any Gaffers Won Anything Decent on the Lotto?

So I’ve been playing the Classic 47 Lotto in Michigan for a couple of years. I grab 5 draws on a ticket for $5. Twice a week they do drawings. If no one wins the jackpot, it increases each drawing. The jackpot was up to $4.5 million USD as of last night. They pull 6 numbers from a pool of 47 numbers. Normally I just check my ticket on the machine when I go to the store the next day, but last night decided to check my numbers online at home. Check my first two sets of numbers and just matched 1 number, typical hit if anything for me lol. Got to my third set, matched the first number, then the second, then the third….all of a sudden my heart starts racing. Hit the 4th number, now I’m seriously sweating. Unfortunately, I didn’t hit the 5th or 6th, but man what a ride in that moment. I walked away with $100. Five numbers would have paid $2,500, and 6 would have obviously been the jackpot.

There are a lot of folks from all over the world on Gaf, and my huge win (😂) last night made me wonder if any users here have won anything playing their lotto? Share your stories!

My fiancé won like 13 bucks on a scratch off she got from my uncle a couple weeks ago. That was pretty neat.

13 bucks would be a huge win for me normally lol. That’s why I was so excited about $100. The most I’ve won outside of some poker tournaments in the past. Definitely by far the most on the lotto.

This reminds me that I still have some scratchers I bought in the DTW airport a couple of weeks ago that I need to check. I forgot about them.

I've never won anything significant. The most has been 20 bucks. I don't play often, though.

Good luck! Yea, outside of the Classic I don’t play much at all. I used to buy some scratch offs when I was a bit younger, but realized quickly the hope of winning big is far greater than the chances of actually winning anything lol. The Classic thing really just became routine for me.

I bought a couple of numbers when the powerball was so high. I was traveling in the Detroit metro area for work and I figured my odds might increase if I bought some plays while traveling. They didn't. I mainly just grab a scratcher or two from the vending machine in the airport to pass time.

The first time I ever went to a casino, I walked up to a slot machine and put in a quarter. I won $20. That's it.

Not me personally but my ex girlfriends sisters boyfriend won a few thousand (50/100 something) on the lotto, two weeks after she dumped him. She had no shame trying to get back with him and was correctly informed to fuck off.

Ive never played lotto where you pick numbers, but every year I'll buy a handful of scratch tickets at a gas station. I have never ever won more than the value of the ticket!

Never play the lottery, but we have a thing called premium bonds here in the UK, and I win on a fairly regular basis. Maximum I've had was £650 one month.

I feel like a winner because I never play it.
Their logic is you can't win if you don't play. I think you just flipped that on its head.
Personally, I've won over 1,400, in a relatively short amount of time and I hardly play it. The times I play it per year, you can can't on one hand.
Both times I won to accumulate that amount, it was just playing randomly. Lots of people play back to back after losing. Fuck that.
Be smart and know when to walk away.

Just last week Thursday I was 2 numbers away from bagging $5 million.
Was in the office at work checking my numbers on the lotto app. I just froze and stared at my phone for like a minute. Couldn't believe it and it happened at a time I didn't expect to win anything.
When playing lotto I always open the app expecting something. This time I opened the app cause I just wanted to check my ticket to get I over and done with as I had work to do.
If I'd won I'd honestly would have gotten up from my desk pack my shit and told my boss to "Fuck Off" and head home.
I AM NOT Kidding 😂

When I was younger, I worked the customer service desk in a grocery store. Can't remember how many times I sold or redeemed winners for people to watch them take those winnings and immediately dump it right back into more tickets and end up leaving with less than they walked in with.

I'm in a similar situation. Lol..

Detroit is my neck of the woods. Well, I’m like 35 miles Northeast.

Nice! lol. I always have the fear that I would quit my job only to realize I looked at the wrong days draw and really didn’t win, that would be fucking horrible 😂

My mom used to play 6/49.
In 1985 she had 5 numbers out of 6 minus the "extra" number.
I already had visions of caviar dreams and champagne wishes in my head but no.
It only paid off around 700$ 😆
We bought a new fridge.

I once won 40$ on a scratcher but that's it. Not a fan of lotto or gambling 😊
Yea my parents played religiously every draw like $20 while I was growing up, I couldn’t do it, plus I don’t make enough money lol. Fridges are cool though, especially ones that could keep fluids cold enough to where they were always on the cusp of giving brain freeze.

Bad at statistics. I always say bad at statistics. I could bring up my mom who made the even worse mistake of consistently playing birthdays as her numbers. Pretty much meant she could never stop playing since she worried if she did then it would come out. (But she thought investing in the stock market was a bad idea.)
Yep…this is why I would never play my own numbers. Could become an obsession at that point, and would definitely have a heart attack if they hit one time I didn’t play them for whatever reason. Also, I saw what happened to Hugo Reyes on Lost lol.

That’s the key, knowing when to walk away. Unfortunately many people don’t know how to do that.

Farmington is fancy lol. My brother and his wife live pretty close to Novi. What type of work do you do?
I'm in IT. I have a development team out that way in Farmington Hills that I go to check in with. The office is in an old office park around Haggerty and 10-mile so I tend to hang out around there.

I won a surround sound theater set from endgadget one time. It was worth about $800 and I had to pay taxes on it. Sent me a 1099.....

never played the lotto, it is a poor tax.

Neither am I. I won 400 on a ticket while waiting on hot chicken tendies, the other time, when I won a 1k,I grabbed a ticket at the start of my shift, had my Mom scratch it after and I gave her 100 just for scratching it, lol.
Nice! Keno was fun back in my bar partying days. Nice to just play it randomly at a bar since it was on like a never ending loop lol
I know a guy who played 5 cents and walked away with 700. It was in Vegas, though. He even showed me a short video and his voucher for payment.

I believe it. My grandma used to win a lot of money on nickel slot machines somehow. The luckiest person I’ve ever met in my life.

Some girlfriend i have her dad won 800.000 euro from some lottery ages ago.

Other then that, my dad always played lottery with 10 lots every other month or so, he would always win like a 3rd of the money back.

I've won a few things of low value in various competitions, etc. But I got into the lottery recently. For years I used to play it a few times a year when the prize had rolled over repeatedly and the amount was really big.

Recently, however, I've played more often, always online, never with a paper ticket. Fortunately this gives you a notice of your spending and told me I'd spent £30 in a week. That's £1560 a year.

So yeah, I'm going to disengage from the lottery.

Agree very much with the "tax on the poor" type comments. Sadly, I think it's a case of needing some sort of hope that everything could align and work out. A while back the lottery ticket price doubled and I remember a radio phone in where people called in, really sad that they felt priced out of being able to play. Tickets are £2, they were £1.
