Any gun owners lurking...

I'm going tomorrow to look at and probably buy a Colt Python. It's been on my radar for some time but with prices dropping over the last year for them theyve finally hit the price range I am willing to pay. It's an '86 blue 8 inch barrel and from all the photos I've seen it looks pristine. Original grips, Colt letter, box and papers. It's not going to be a safe queen though, but too much junk sells at the lower prices so I went and went for a LNIB and ill be proud that any wear on it is from me. I was hoping to get a model before they changed the cylinder assembly and before they really went mass produced (and changed the bluing recipe) but the only quality one I found was auctioned off above my price range. Oh well. I'm excited either way!

Between this and the Wilson Combat I ordered 5 weeks ago I think I've about used up my 2017 mileage with the wife. She was supportive of the Wilson and said "oh ok" to the python haha I will settle for only two (incredible) additions to the collection for 2017

Shot a Colt Python last year. Quickly came and ruined my jeans. Incredible wheelgun. Congrats!!!

Post photos when you get it. I missed an opportunity on a Python some years back and I've regretted it ever since.

I'm finally going to go out and shoot tomorrow, it's been like a year and a half since I last went. I'm starting to run low on ammo, I have maybe 200 rounds left for the AK and 20 for the Mauser so enough for tomorrow. Anyone recommend a good site to buy ammo at a low price? I want to pick up like 1000 rounds of 762x39 and maybe like 300 for the Mauser maybe more before the end of the year since I live in California and I believe next year I'll need a background check everytime I buy ammo 😔. I'm gonna try my hardest from buying a Rock Island 1911 I've been wanting for the last couple of years that I know they have tomorrow lol. Thanks guys👍.

I really like SGAmmo.com. Their shipping is usually only around $15 to $25 for bulk ammo, which is waaaay less than anyone else I've seen. They'll often sell at or under cost when they need to clear stock. They have 1000 rounds of Wolf Gold brass case .223 for $279 + $16 shipping, which an amazing deal.

Thanks. Will definitely be buying some on payday I usually buy steel cased ammo cause I don't know of any blm land around here and the people who do don't really like to share... So I just stick to the local range. Last time I bought ammo I bought golden tiger and I really liked it because it didn't leave the gun too dirty afterwards. I don't really know much about the grain differences but does it really matter if I only go to shoot a couple times a year?

freedommunitions.com (Brand new not remanufactured)

Also just sign up to their mailing list. You'll get emails when the free shipping is going on. Because of the NRAshow they have $5 shipping for any orders over $125.00

Edit: Didn't see you're looking for 7.62... They may not be the best price. I use them solely for pistol ammo.

Just ordered a Ruger 10/22, my first firearm. Excited to get to the range soon. What ammo do you all recommend? Any tips for gun maintenance and upkeep for a newbie?

For general plinking I use Federal AutoMatch or Remington 22 Thunderbolt. AutoMatch is super cheap and easy to find. Higher velocity ammo tends to work better in my Mark III, but the 10/22 might work fine with standard velocity stuff.

.22 is dirty, so I'd watch some YouTube videos on how to take it down and clean it properly. Just be glad you don't have a Mark III like me. It's the world's biggest bitch to take down.

Well I went and saw it. As beautiful as it looked in photos I wasn't prepared for it in real life! I decided to put half down and threw it on layaway so it wouldn't hurt so much all at once. It has box and papers and the faintest turn line. I'll post some photos of it from the store later today and then a whole gallery when I get it home!

Just got a Glock 20 10mm to add to the small collection. Never was a fan of Glock mostly because of the grip angle but there aren't many other non 1911 options for 10mm.

Actually shooting it changed my mind and it's great.

I still like XD series better than Glock and I only wish Springfield would come out with a 10mm but this is great so far and seems very accurate.

I have the Glock, XDM OSP 9mm with vortex red dot, 9mm xds for conceal carry.

Almost bought a Daniel Defense AR but I'm driving to Vegas today and should probably wait until I get back.

My first gun was a Glock. Gen 3 G23. Sold it for an XD-40 sub-compact and I'll never look back.

The only thing I liked that the Glock had over the the XD is that slide for the Glock can be disassembled with out tools. But slide disassembly is something you very rarely need to do.

My m&p sport 2 order is still processing on gunbuyer.com (bought it last thursday). Anybody use this site? It seems legit, but also clearly doesn't have the reputation of something like budsgunshop. I'm probably just being paranoid, but I want it! Already received my magpul handgrip (thanks for the tip) and it's making the wait harder. I also want to order some ammo in bulk, but Im going to wait on a shipping confirmation before I drop 300 more dollars.

I plan to! The guy was aghast when I said I plan on shooting it instead of just storing it in the safe. Life is too short for that

Good for you, I'm the same way with guns/cars/etc. If I have it, I have it to use it.

I used them the last time I purchased a gun and had the same issue, but it was no big deal. I just had to call them and work something out about the shipping address of the FFL. Can't remember what it was exactly, just have the shipping address of your FFL and your order number handy and give them a call.

gunbuyer.com has a 9.6/10 rating on reseller ratings. That's a pretty good score. Sometimes those online gun stores can be slow to ship, then you have to deal with the FFL you had it sent to. Took about a week before I could get my hands on my Palmetto State lower, and it took about 2 weeks before my friend got his 338 Lapua from Impact Guns. But I think Impact had it shipped from Savage Arms.

Thanks guys. I'll probably give them a shout just to make sure everything is in order, and possibly get an estimated time if I can.

What do you guys think about the 1:9 twist rate on an AR 15? From what I've seen it should be find for anything below 70 grain rounds, but some people seem to think it's a step down from 1:7 or 1:8. Doesn't matter too much to me, I'll probably feed my guy 55 grain .223 pretty much exclusively which is supposedly ideal for 1:9. The main reason I ask is I believe the older M&P Sports have a 1:8 twist.

If you're going to be hunting with it get the 1:8 or 1:7 so you can use the heavy bullets. If it's just for target shooting get a 1:9 for best selection of ammo.

Some 223 bolt-action rifles come in a 1:10 and maybe 1:12, they are meant for lighter bullets around 40-grain for varmint hunting.

My 1:7 twist ar-15 seems to prefer these 77gr OTM, 75gr BTHP, and 64gr soft point.

I've also shot 55 grain russian hollow points fairly accurately.

I believe the theory is that bullets with a longer bearing surface work better with higher twist rates, and I believe that hollow point bullets do that. And heavier bullets will naturally have more surface area.

Just target shooting...and I had already purchased the M&P 15 Sport 2, so 1:9 it is. I'll probably keep it to 55 grain. Thanks for the info.

Speaking of:

Just got it, installed the Magpul foregrip handguard. 550 total, after handguard and ffl transfer. Pretty pumped. Off to the range (sometime next week)!

Gonna go to the range tomorrow and get a couple boxes of practice in. Thinking about ordering that Springfield Saint, not a huge fan of the front triangle post. But it's such a good deal at the price point. Also, not like I'm gonna be long ranging an AR anyway.

Back from my range trip. I am a new handgun shooter, and I bought Glock 19, but one with a front nightsight, and rear steel sights. I am a left handed, but right eye dominant. This was my second trip to the range, and well, 50 rounds and I am a horrible shot. Like...Kevin Hart in a buddy cop movie bad shot. Frustrated, I shoot right handed, and I am making 2' to 3" groups. I have now swapped my Glock back to right handed magazine release.

Also, got to shoot an ARX100, That thing looks like I'm shouldering a large fish. Nice rifle though. I'd still prefer an AR.

Can anyone help with some tips on good cleaning equipment or packages? I've been using one i got from my dad with a screw together brass rod, jags and brushes (occasionally buying new brushes) but my rod bent and I've been meaning to buy a nice carbon one piece.

I own shotguns, rifles and handguns of all different calibers from .22 to .45 if that helps. I figure now is the time to invest in good equipment before my python gets here. Any direction, info or recommendations would be appreciated

I am right handed, left eye dominant. I shoot with my right hand using my left eye only (I see double with both eyes open). I shot for 20 years with my right eye but it was when I started doing long distance rifle that I realized my dominance and switched. At first I shot horribly with my left eye but I quickly caught up and now shoot better than I ever did with my right.

So what I'm trying to say is that you can get away with either eye and hand likely but I would go with what's most natural. What distance are those groupings? For your 2nd outing 2-3" doesn't sound bad at all

25 feet.

I'm going to the range again next week, and I will do the day right handed to see how it goes.

There is an M&P Shield 9mm in my future, sometime this month anyways.... Was also looking at the 9mm LCR, need to go get my hands on both of them and see how well they pocket.

Back into the swing of things since the NRA show. I'll give my impressions of everything new I tried soon.

If you have a list of things respond. Chances are if it's a pistol I handled it.

Springfield XDE? Why? Why hammer? Because Sig P238?

It's basically for people that like the 1911 styling but the weight of a polymer frame gun. Felt good in hand and the trigger was pretty good. Not for me in the slightest.

That VP9sk was my shit. Really really liked it. I thought I was going to be much more of a fan of the Sig p320 X-five. The ergo's were sick but I thought the trigger was kinda shit. Went over to the grey guns booth and it didn't get that much better. They said the Sigs are all over the place and they do what they can. Dude handed me another and it was much better with the same trigger job done.

Found a neat patch for my Italian police trade-in Beretta 92. After a bit more inspection, I'm going to assume (other than the grips, which probably came from a parts bin) that this thing was unissued. It doesn't even have any wear on the feed ramp, and the take-down lever is still very stiff like on newer guns.

I wanted a CZ P-10C, but the ship date kept getting delayed. So I bought a G19. I'll get a CZ 75 eventually, though.
P-10c was excellent. Much better ergos, grips and trigger than the g19. But yeah stop delaying the damn thIng. The black is shipping now according to the cz reps.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
So this came into my possession somewhat unexpectedly:
Star Bonifacio Echeverria BKS/Starlight

1911 styling (obviously)
9mm
8 round magazine
Aluminum alloy frame

It's in need of some work, I'm trying to get in contact with someone who worked at the factory where they made these to see if he's got any parts it may need. I have an idea of everything that's not in good shape, but I'll be taking it to a gunsmith to get that all confirmed. It's been passed down in my family for a few decades, it's in the rough shape it's in because it was often carried directly against people's bodies, but at the moment I believe everything is original.

I've been told it's in working condition, so I'll be taking it to the range in the next few days to see how it does. Out of curiosity, does anyone else have trouble finding snap caps? This gun can't be dry fired at all, the firing pin it very delicate, and I had to go to four stores over several days to get some 9mm snap caps. Two didn't carry them and one was out of stock.
