Any idea how the Alone in the Dark 2024 reboot did, sales wise?

Indeed. But people had the wrong expectations with this one, I think. I saw a lot of reviews where the reviewer obviously compared AitD to Resident Evil and expected that kind of polish. That's not what Pieces aimed for here. This is southern gothic, and people should google that to begin with, and the budget was obviously AA.
The game was sold at full price and had two pretty famous Hollywood actors in the main cast. Why wouldn't people expect it to be a proper RE competitor?

The game's budget was most likely poorly managed and it also seems the studio lacked talented devs, so that the game wouldn't be so buggy and some mechanics would work better. I played it this year and I was still pretty shocked with the lack of polish and unresolved small bugs.

The thing is that the game sold ok, it generated profit. The problem was that it didn't generated enough of profit for Embracer.

Possibly hiring the actors was a way to gain attention. AitD is not nearly as famous as RE. But I thought it was always apparent this was AA. It's possible the budget was poorly managed, hiring the actors was obviously not necessary. I played the game day one and did not experience any serious bugs but I heard some had issues. The combat was not very good to say the least, but I really enjoyed the bizarre story, the goofy characters, and the southern gothic atmosphere was great. I also liked small details like all the letters were narrated so you didn't have to read them all by yourself. I would love a remaster of The New Nightmare, but I guess it's not likely to happen now.

From what I read about the state of the game the bugs depend on the platform. PC seems to be the more polished version, while the console versions are more buggy. I also read that Emily's scenario has more bugs than Edward's, but I can't verify it. Finishing it once (as Edward) was enough for me. Maybe I'll return to it in the future to see that 1 unique location for the other playable character.

I played on PS5 and like I said there was a large number of small bugs, like various glitches, delays when opening doors or missing collectibles. A buddy of mine played on launch and he was getting gamebreaking bugs with stuff like quest items not spawning.

Haven't played this yet, now that I got it from PS Plus I may give it a go.
I was actually excited to play it back when it was announced but I remember quite well that I kept looking for the price on Steam and it only got it during the last week or so before release, when it turned out to be a full priced game I noped out.
It didn't look AAA to me so I was expecting AA pricing, my instincts seemed to be correct considering critic and user reviews of the game.

Shame that it panned out this way though, I love the genre so the more horror games that become successful the better.

Last but not least, anyone here can tell me if it's worth buying for PC? Or does it make no difference and I should just play the PS5 version?

I played it on Xbox but don't remember any bigger bugs. It's been a while, though. I almost liked Emily's playthrough better. The locations are the same apart from one, but it's fun watching the other character react to their partner "going insane".
