Any national or credible rating service for lawyers?

I need to find a reliable and capable Patent attorney in my area (LA, CA) and tracked down some candidates through the net and phone book, but I don't know how to go about choosing which one would be ideal.

Ideally, I want someone with experience, proven record, and is relatively affordable (yeah, who doesn't? :lol ). Anyone here know of a method or service or a system that tracks lawyers? Need to get one ASAP.

Ladies and gentlemen of the supposed jury, I have one final thing I want you to consider: (pulling down a diagram of Chewie) this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk, but Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now, think about that. That does not make sense! (jury looks shocked)

Why would a Wookiee -- an eight foot tall Wookiee -- want to live on Endor with a bunch of two foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense!

But more importantly, you have to ask yourself: what does that have to do with this case? (calmly) Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense!

Look at me, I'm a lawyer defending a mass murdering fuckhead, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca. Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense. None of this makes sense.

And so you have to remember, when you're in that jury room deliberating and conjugating the Emancipation Proclamation... does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense.

If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests.

If you know anyone in law school, they can do a free search on Lexis or Westlaw and get some good info on the attorney, but more importantly on the firm. Let me know if you want a search done, as I'm bored in Estates and Trusts right now.

Hey, aren't you paralegal or something? Any advice feelin' out lawyers (not literally)?

LOL. Actually all the lawyers that I have worked for either work with ins. companies (i.e. gives kickbacks to get bigger cases) or they get clients by word of mouth.

Find someone with access to Lexis Nexis and look up their cases :)
