I'm making some mixed cds for a friend of mine that LOVES dance music and I was wondering if anyone here was also a fan of dance music and had any suggestions.

Here's what he made me get for him so far:

Let the music play – Shannon
Red Light – DJ Benoit Vinet
Who da Funk – Shiny Disco Ball
Don’t Funk with my Heart – Black Eyed Peas
As the Rush Comes Motorcycle - Dj Tiesto
Just be – Dj Tiesto
New Order – Bizarre Love Triangle
Feel You – Alyson
Four to the floor – star sailor
Forgiven – sylver
PIMP – Fifty Cents and Snoop Dogg remix
Luv to Luv – Suzanne Palmer
Nookie – Elephant Man
Pump up the jam (new 2005 version)
Put your hands up In the air – Mc Mario
Do you wanna dance - the bitch hotel
california dreaming - the royal gigolos remix
Loves comes Again - Dj Tiesto
Bounce - Sarah Connor
Let's go - Sean Desman

etc...

So anyone with suggestions?

Every time i've heard the phrase "dance music" used, it was in reference to really bad house music. You seem to be using the phrase to identify popular music from various genres and eras. Interesting.

Well I know nothing about dance music, like I said I'm the one getting music for him. Anyways, it's music that makes you dance anyhow :)

Well I could go on for hours recommending stuff from the more mainstream oriented to some more enthusiast type stuff. Try these songs for a start:
Interstate - I Found You
Infusion - Do To You In 82
Armin Van Buuren - Shivers
Stonebridge - Put Em High
Eric Prydz - Call On Me
Basement Jaxx - Oh My Gosh (Knee Deep mix)
Rah - Pole Position (Airbase mix)
Way Out West - Mindcircus (Gabriel and Dresden mix)
Andain - Beautiful Things
Cabin Crew - Star To Fall

Also download some sets from Ferry Corsten, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, etc and burn the whole sets onto CD for him, he'll get a kick out of that.

BTW Tiesto didn't do "As The Rush Comes", that was Gabriel and Dresden presents Motorcycle. Lots of people mislabel shit on SoulSeek/Ares/etc.

aoi tsuki: Most people either use dance music to refer to super cheeseball (Ian Van Dahl) trance or old commercial house music (Technotronic), or for some reason hip hop and R&B (WTF???). I still prefer that term than lumping everything under "techno" :P

If you don't know what you want why do you want our opinion. Apparently you want dance music but you've got some songs that are undanceable and old. Why don't you just go to muchmusic.com and download the top 20 or download Muchmusic's Dance Mix 2004.

I think it would be better of to say Electronic Music instead of Dance Music in this case.

And for Starsailor - Four to the Floor (Thin White Duke Remix)

is "dance music" and not the original.

The greatest thing iTunes ever did was putting up popular DLs.

Do yourself a favor... go onto the iTunes music store and scan the popular downloads for both the UK and the US under the "Dance" genre. For the most part... they are pretty solid on the up to date stuff...

...as far as the new and up-and-coming... that takes a little more searching.
