Any trucksim enthusiasts here?

I've been into ETS2 for a few years now, and it's my go to game when I just want to relax. I started by borrowing an old Logitech Driving Force GT from a friend, then I bought a Tobii 5 eye tracker, and not too long ago I got myself my first real wheel (Moza R5 bundle + TSW) which I recently upgraded with Moza stalks as well. All these things combined take the immersion to a whole new level, and now I completely get flight sim or racing sim enthusiasts who build entire sim rigs around their setup. Moza in general is superb, I briefly tried Dirt Rally with R5 strapped to my desk and got an involuntary full body forcefeedback experience. I never imagined that 5nm could feel like it would tear itself from the desk, and probably take a good chunk of it on the way out.

Fortunately truck sims are much more tame, and there I get to enjoy a very subtle but precise FFB, and the huge steering wheel (400mm diameterer, 20mm more than my RL car) only dampens this further. Stalks are absolutely brilliant and it's shocking to me that Moza is the only one with these things on the market.

As for games themselves, I play mostly ETS2, but I tried ATS also (own all dlcs in both). I'm much more fond of the Euro cabovers. Both games have a vibrant community with lots of mods available to tailor to your needs, including some crazy guys over at https://promods.net who took it upon themselves and basically rebuilt entire Europe map, and added other parts of middle east, Kazakhstan, etc.

All in all, I find these games super enjoyable, and it makes me wonder why there is not more interest in this genre from other developers, not necessarily trucks, but just driving around in a non-racing environment. Forza Horizon could've been good for this, but the wheels don't seem to work that well there, and it has this whole influencer/instagram culture splashed all over it that I find repulsing. Snowrunner series is another interesting beast, but like Forza it's tailored around gamepads, and driving in first person view is very unforgiving.

Which leaves us with ETS2, ATS, BeamNG (with mods) and maybe the upcoming Australian Truck Simulator. But I digress, this thread is for people who like driving in a non-racing environment, maybe with trucks, maybe with something else, maybe collectively we can find some obscure titles worth playing together.

Beamng is my to-go relaxing driving game. I just drive around the maps or set up random scenarios. The modding community also helps with custom races and missions.

ETS2 with multiplayer mod is awesome. I always go back to it during the holidays, it's just a super comfy experience.

Nah, I have no desire to continue my work after work.
Thats where us, eurobros come into play, germans in particular:

I honestly wouldn't recommend Snowrunner to anyone looking for a truck simulator game. Yeah it has trucks but it is the polar opposite of games like ETS: extremely stressful, tense, quite frustrating at times, unforgiving. It's a harsh experience.

I was deep into Elite Dangerous, which is essential a space truck and mining simulator with a sprinkle of combat. I was this close to buying myself a Hotas setup for several thusand $$$.

So I get it, almost something meditative about it. Enjoy your truckin' boys.

I have tried American truck simulator and at first is fine but after a while I get bored lol. I need some more action unfortunately

That being said I really enjoyed SnowRunner, I loved the difficulty to make the deliveries and planning my trips

I drove in real life from Dublin California to San Francisco, coming into San Francisco on the bridge, i felt i had been there before and that upcoming on the road was a corkscrew, strangely there was a corkscrew.
I spent a week trying to figure out how i knew, it was from playing American Truck Sim on my PC in VR with a wheel, pedals and gearstick lol.

I also when in ETS like to listen to the local radio stations from where i'm driving in my truck, was driving ETS somewhere in the UK in VR listening to a local radio station and the DJ gave a "Shout out to all the ETS drivers out there that listen to the station", another surreal experience, lol

ETS and ATS are some kind of weird Zen games, theyre absolutely brilliant.

Ever tried dekotora games?
Japan's decorated truck games are a genre to themselves. I've got dekotora games on PS1, PS2, Wii and even Wonderswan. There are loads of good ones on PS2.

The Bakusou Dekotora Densetsu franchise is worth checking out.

There's snowrunner, i also heard of some like "On the Road" and "Alaskan Road Truckers", but going by reviews they dont seem all that good.

Mudrunner, Snowrunner, Truck driver and On the road - Truck simulator come to mind. There are others that are thematicaly similar to choose from besides those.
Yeah I was reading the reviews for those and not good. Just wasn't sure if there was a good recommended one.

Thanks guys.

I've no interest in driving in general, to me its just a necessity but sim games generally intrigue me. The mudrunner game looked somewhat interesting. I have a friend who absolutely loves playing a truck game on his phone, parking trucks seemed to be his thing.

I spend a lot of time at home washing and cleaning things, something meditative about it, and I thought I'd love Powerwash Simulator. I was....whelmed when I got around to experience the game.

Not really an enthusiast but some times I like to hop on ETS2 in VR mode and with ProMods installed, turn on TruckersFM or some other immersive radio and just chill a bit.
I find the experience really soothing.

snowrunner is dope and is still getting more content , a must buy

expeditions launched in a terrible state but is a bit better now but i still would wait till it gets more content and patches

I was looking to ask about this game in here. I've never played a truck sim but this game somehow always interested me. For some reason Death Stranding unlocked this "me in the wilderness with my task" love in me and I feel like this game may scratch that itch?

What's the core experience and loop really? It has to be more than just following a GPS to a point, what's the satisfying elements etc??

I mainly play ATS. It can be pretty relaxing too, just add your own radio stations, grab a drink and just chill out and drive. I use a logitech driving force pro when i do play it. Just wish i could get my quest 2 to work so i can play in vr, it crashes every time i try to play it in vr. ATS is getting an update where you can drive other vehicles like a truck or car and just go on road trips and apparently other tasks.

I have kind of a rig with an old thrust master t300, 3 pedals and the h shifter. used it only with a headset. one thing that always bothered me about the wheel is that i could never get the auto centering to behave like a normal truck would at parking lot speeds or turning out into a road, i'm talking about how in real life, when you turn out into a road, you can press the gas and the force of the acceleration will allow the steering wheel to spin backwards and recenter itself back to straight as you complete the turn onto the street. i know ETS has a centering option and i've played with that, but it only seems to kind of work at higher speeds, whenever i would pull out the ffb centering wasn't strong enough to snap the wheel back into my hands. if i jacked up the centering value, that would kind of fix it, but then it would be way too sensitive when driving at high way speed and made it all stiff.

Yeah, there are two settings, one for low speeds and one for high speed. Nothing to do except play around with values. I find it pretty ok on default settings on my Moza wheel but ymmv, since every manufacturer also has its own software that goes with it.

I really enjoyed Mudrunner and Snowrunner. It has a Zen like atmosphere to it. As you planned which trucks to use and what routes to take.

I'm a console pleb so unfortunately I haven't played all the good stuff on PC.

I have played Truck Driver on PlayStation4/5, and I enjoyed what I played of it. It isn't a simulator as much as it's just a truck driving video game, but it's fun enough given options on console.

They released Truck Driver: The American Dream also, but it didn't look too good at launch. It has since received 20+ patches, so I'm curious to research if it has improved.
