I make 18.56/hour starting pay with built in pay rises every year. I'll get 19.50 in November if I'm still at the same position. Custodians start out at 25/hour and get career benefits from the get go. The only shitty part about my job right now is that i'm not full time and don't qualify for benefits. And some people don't make career employee for five years in my position...so I'm looking to transfer already. I know I can do management and they get 76k a year starting salary plus all the benefits. I can get health insurance through the union even as a part timer and when I'm full employee, I'll qualify for the government insurance. It really is a good gig if stick with it. We also still get paid even when the government has a lockdown because we are self sufficient. There are shitty things about the job, but it does really seem like a great gig once I can get to a full time career position.
Edit: also get some sweet discounts on things like cellphones and such. Sprint gives $50/month unlimited plans that includes hulu, Amazon prime, and tidal music. I'll probably move from Verizon soon because of that
