Any word on PS1/2 controller compatibility with the PS3?

I'm currently in the process of getting a custom arcade stick made by finkle over at SRK, and I'm a little worried about next-gen compatibility. It uses a Dual Shock PCB, and I'd really like to be able to use it in with any new fighting games that might come out. Has Sony said anything about older controllers working with the PS3? If there aren't going to be slots for older controllers on the actual console, what about a PS1/2 to USB adapter?

There's going to be a 3rd party USB adapter, that much is obvious.
So no official word from Sony? I know that the DS3 is pretty much identical function-wise to the previous models, which means there's no obligation for them to support older controllers.

There's no official ANYTHING from Sony at the moment :P Launch is still far far away and they haven't even begun to talk about accesories. Hell they haven't even said what the final controller will look like at this point.

Logic tells us that they'll make an official USB adapter since why would they want to give all the sales to 3rd parties? Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 "Value Pack" version even comes with a dongle.

You'd think with all those memory expansion and USB ports, Sony would have at least included one legacy controller and memory card port. Prove me wrong with the final design.

It is wireless. Bluetooth. Where have you been?

Oh shit, I forgot that everyone copies Nintendo's innovation soon after :P

Just kidding, yeah wireless is great and all, but I'd have liked the option to plug my Dual Shock 2 & fighting controllers to the PS3, I still use a PSOne controller on my PS2 quite often when a friend drops by for 2-players without bringing along their DS2.
