So, a softmod for xbox 360 which was notorious for its unreliability for launching/patching, received massive update few days ago turning that patching success rate to 80% and increasing time in which it does so. All you need is usb stick to softmod your xbox 360 now, works for any model

Will definitely try this.
It works so goddamn well + has ton of options for emulators as well with this.
I tried it on old early xbox model i had, just easy to set up and games work no bother(need to convert them on pc, but it takes no time).
Genuienly made me to seek out used E slim model to buy, since my current sounds like jet engine.

If I'm satisfied with how it works, I'll likely sell all my physical Xbox 360 games except the ones that are delisted and are BC to current Xbox systems.

I want this. But I need a 360 first. Alot of games are stuck on it and I wanna play them 😫

what happens if your system lands in the 20%?
console freezes and you need to reboot it, thats it. I tried boot up few times and it worked everytime, taking some 80sec at most.

they cost fuck all now, never been a better time.
Can you go on live with this? Do achievements work?
i think stealth server which was before mostly for hardmodded consoles is also working on this mod too now if you set it up, you could also set up with more tinkering old 360 dashboards too

Would you say it's worth finding one on eBay?
They are expensive, people who mod them charge a lot of money in general and solder mods too can be pricey. This is why people are excited for this softmod because it path to possible permanent mod eventually + its free. It honestly takes 2min to launch from console booth now and settings you have etc are permanent, so its kinda hassle free

Is this a softmod? I thought this was temporary and had to be done everytime you power on the console?

I've got a 360 upstairs in the guest room. Question, would I lose the games that are currently on that 360 if I did this? Another question: if I already have an entire emulator setup both upstairs and down, what would I get out of doing this to the 360? Genuinely curious to try it, but I'm unsure why.

I havent tried this yet. Been keeping an eye on the gbatemp thread for this exploit. Besides Tenchu Z, i dont know what games are worth doing this for since most of the good stuff is already available in the Xbox store.

Yeah there's very few games that aren't backwards compatible with enhancements that make it a better experience. Good for the few titles that aren't that people don't own physically.

Not to me, I enjoy collecting phyiscal games. The main draw is piracy really.
Sure, but in these days, with how some platform games have obacene prices,(or ton of xbla/ps3 digital titles removed from stores or marketplaces closed), its absolutely necessary. I love kuon, hunting grounds, but I would never pay 500+ for disc of each, theres a ton of cult hits that had smaller runs due to not selling initially and imagine if only way to play them was shilling out hundreds of dollars. Absolute lunacy. No ones gonna hurt from downloading 20 year old game

You dont lose what you have, also i dont understand 2nd point. If you have emulation setup and can play what you want already, dont see you having any use for this

Thanks for the response, that's what I was trying to ascertain but I worded it like an idiot, for which I apologize. Just trying to figure out if there was any reason to do this beyond emulation and the like.

Still might do it just for the love of tinkering lol

Let's just say it will also grant you access to play all 360, OG Xbox, and homebrew games, acquired legally or illegally.

All good. Ita worth thinkering if you want original machine for gameplay

Curious to see if Microsoft will patch this, can't remember the last major dashboard updated that was released.
Hopefully a more permanent mod will come out, my 360 from 2011 is starting to have issues reading discs after an hour of play (it detects games as DVD video) and I suspect the drive will fail completely at some point.

I don't think it's possible for Microsoft to patch anything out since it's using an exploit in Rock Band Blitz or Tony Hawk American Wasteland.

I would honestly be shocked if Microsoft even cared since the 360 online store shut down.

And there's no threat of Microsoft banning your account if you use a console you've already got your gamer tag on?
Its no issue as long as you dont play homebrew games or games with custom achievements, but to be fair, i dont think they really care anymore.

Theres been ton of exploits and last system update was in 2019, thats the one needed for badupdate. They probably dont care. System is eol and they also have shut down store etc.

I've been playing only on PC for about 13 years now, my last console was the ps3. It's obvious to say that it's been a very long time since I last did something like this, but posts and news about this stuff always makes me nostalgic of the PSP days. The 1.50 firmware, the downgrades, the custom firmware, the GTA UMD, the photo file hack, I was so into all of this on PSP back then, making it one of the most memorable consoles for me.
