If you plan on having a career that has a licensing and or regulatory board (such as a Medical Board) be prepared to explain yourself. At the Dental Board I've seen our board question applicants about dui's that happend 20+ years ago.

driving drunk is a very assholish thing to do. You should be less worried about your driving record and more thankful you didn't kill anyone.

i agree with piston

i remember a few years back i was out with some buddies and there were some people there i didn't know. anyways, one of the guys got to talking about "how to get out of a DUI situation"

he went on to detail that you dont have to agree to take the test when the cop asks you, and that you can delay it until your attorney gets there and so on. basically by the time you actually have to TAKE it, you are of clear mind and you will pass. something like that i dont remember the specifics

anyways i told him that is fucking pathetic. FUCK clearing your record or not getting caught or whatever, how about not driving drunk in the first place? people always want to look for a way out or a scapegoat for shit they do. always want to look for a loophole in the system, i hate that shit

i dont know you personally so im in no position to comment on you, but you need to do 2 things:

1. man up and take your punishment
2. never drive drunk again. and if you do drive drunk again, i sincerely hope you are thrown in the slammer or have your license permanently revoked

A few of my friends have but I have not. I drive drunk every now and then but the cops dont want none of this.

last halloween, i was with a group of friends at Texas A&M, and we were driving to a party when all of the sudden we see a cop behind us with the sirens and shit on. needless to say, since everyone in the truck(crew cab) was drunk as a skunk, we were all scared shitless. to make matters worse, it was a texas state trooper, and those fucks are notorious for being assholes.

anyway, i was in the passenser side seat, and my friend that was driving was only 20(everyone else was 21). so as we're pulling over, everyone throws their beers at me and tells me to hide them. wtf? where? i try my best to jam 5 beers in between the seat and door while my friend is talking to the cop and taking a breathilizer. :lol :lol

all of the sudden, we hear on the cops pa, "stephen tyson, arrest for warrant..blah blah blah". at this point, i'm thinking, "wtf do i have a warrnant out for? my parents are going ot murder me..."

so the cop waddles his way to the truck and asks for stephen, and i raised my hand(Beer in tow!!!). he asks me to get out, but i can't, because i just jammed all those beers in between the seats and door, and opening up the door results in a beer waterfall with a cop we just pleaded with that there were no beers in the truck.. finally, he says, "i know the beer is there, just come out already."

i get out, ask why i have a warrant, and what i can do about it so i don't end up in jail. he proceeds to tell me that i'l lneed to pay a $500 fee to clear the charge. it was already 1am, and i don't carry that much cash on me, so the cop was nice enough to drive me around with another friend to get the cash and transfer it to a money order. we arrive at the original scene one hour later to find the driver and other friend replacing the tire that evidently busted when the idiot ran over a curb doing 30 right before the cop pulled us over...

:lol :lol :lol

anyway, the 20 year old driver was given a DUI and was allowed to drive home... i had to fork over $500... fun times! :lol

o yea, the warrant was for a goddamn speeding ticket in corpus christi TWO YEARS before this episode comign back from spring break.

Is it that serious in America?

No, but it should be.

Most people know that if there is any question about whether or not you have/have not been driving drunk REFUSE the tests. They will take you license, you will get fined, your insurance will go up - but it is nothing compared to a DUI conviction.

The president of the United States has a dui if that tells you anything about how serious it is.
He doesn't count...now he's a reformed Baptist who has learnt the error of his ways.
So basically it isn't that big of a deal.

I had a laundry list of bad things when the tox screen came back the next day. Bonus points for a cop taking advantage of me while being barely conscious in critical condition. You can't even make out the first letter of my name in the signature, and there's no break between the first and last name.

Both my dad and brother probably have about 5 between them, but thankfully they've shappened themselves up now.But they both went without their driver's liscense for like literally 2-3 years and they had to go to some kind of driving class.

You should be punished,severely,IMO...there is no excuse to justify driving drunk,I remember when I was in like the 3rd grade my teacher's son and girlfriend were killed by a drunk driver, terrible :(

Not to mention that douch Lenord Little in the NFL,he killed someone then got caught AGAIN driving drunk, how the fuck is he still allowed to play in the league?

Meh. Driving drunk is a really stupid thing, and anyone who gets caught doing it should be punished sufficiently that they don't do it again - if that means they never get to drive again, so be it.

Get ready for the boggling ride that is American Justice. Expect for your license to be revoked, most likely urinary analysis and probably some sort of group meeting AA type thing for about a year. Hey, at least you didn't kill anyone.

When you get your license you agree that you will take the test on the spot. Asking for an attorney wont do anything. You are obligated by law to do it Thats the way it is in Utah and I think most states are like that(according to some of those police video shows). So your buddies didn't know what they were talking about.

I knew some guys from highschool that were coming from the beach from a party that crashed into a tree at like 90 miles per hour. Their bodies were pretty messed up.

Not quite. When you get your license you don't have to make any agreements about anything DUI related, at least not in any of the 7 states I've lived in so far. HOWEVER, by law refusal to take the test will result in your being arrested, processed, detained for some time and eventually released. The officers can't force you to take the test, but refusing to take it has consequences. Any BS about waiting for your lawyer to arrive is just that BS. Your lawyer can't do anything for you until you're actually arrested and processed.

Yeah, if you know that you're totally trashed and have no chance of passing, the smarter move is always to refuse to take any tests. If you've only had a few beers, then I guess you can take your chances. Though they say that something like 60% of people can't pass field sobriety tests when they are sober.....so yeah, there is a little something fucked up about the system.

I've been meaning to invest in those little strips that you can put in your wallet, and then breath on before you leave the bar/party. They turn a certain color if you're over the legal limit or whatnot. Does anyone know how reliable they are?

Sharper Image actually sells an electronic breathalyzer machine, for the serious drinkers out there.
