GAF's Nicest Lunch Thief and Nosiest Dildo Archeologist
I have to admit I was wondering if people mentioned that they'd reported posts. Does this make the moderators' job harder or easier?

I'll admit I've never reported a post, because I thought it was akin to tattling and I figured since the moderators monitor the boards already they don't need us butting in. But maybe I'm wrong in this thinking and they do appreciate the help?

I guess I also lean toward not deleting others' posts even if they are offensive because it shows their true colors and all that. Since we're all adults we can just roll our eyes and go on our merry way.

So, I guess I should actually be asking the moderators whether or not it helps them to report a post and if they'd rather we report them or just ignore them rather than having them decide whether or not to delete the post or the whole thread.

Nope. Only ever blocked one person but that was so long ago it doesn't show up in my blocked people.

Yup, when somebody has posted porn images. Not that I'm offended but because that's not what GAF is about.

Yeah. I won't say what it was, but it was pretty inappropriate. And the mods deleted it and banned the person right away. That's the only time, though.

life ugh GIF

Yes I snitched on a couple of mfers.

Also blocked a few people.

EDIT: Any time I've been warned has been valid except the first time. I cross referenced the post to complaint and all I could find was I said PS3 games are trapped on the PS3 and I was reported for being a "shill" or something. Sony heads were insane on this board back then tbh.

I've only reported someone once in all the years I've posted here (if my memory serves me right). I think the feature is obviously useful for moderators, but in situations where I could report someone, I usually prefer to call them out directly and start a dialogue about whatever the issue is.

It often feels like a more constructive way to address bad behaviour, one that encourages accountability and reflection, rather than just jumping to formal action. Reporting someone essentially means you're asking a moderator to step in, but sometimes a ban or warning isn't the most appropriate or helpful response.

The posts that deserve to get reported have already been reported and acted upon by the time I get to them, usually.

The few times someone has come after me with personal attacks, I try to let it go and not respond. I think the type of people who antagonize online do it because they are starved for interaction and would rather have someone to argue with than to be left all alone.

No. I personally message the author of the post and go on a diatribe about how their post was bad and they should feel bad.

No report or ignore, gaf would be half as funny without some individuals.

Spoilers on the other hand...

I think I've reported a huge unmarked spoiler on one ocassion. Other than that - no.

I used to ignore a lot of people before the split with the purple forum. After that I cleaned my list and now I only have several 'extreme' cases on my list. ;)

The mods here do a good enough job to not have to 🤷‍♂️

Even if it is detrimental to me.. on the odd occasion

Sometimes

Once or twice

It's an internet message board, if you're thinking about reporting a post, half a dozen plus people already have.
I'm not big on curated feeds, I take the good with the bad cause that's what life is.

Sometimes I'm not sure why I even bother. Feels like some users here have ban immunity when they don't even respect the mods themselves and even insult them out in the open for getting punished.

I feel like the gaming side uses the report button more because people over there are very sensitive about their console of choice.
