I just downloaded Hero's 2005.
The card is very impresive:

I haven't watched it yet, but when I do I'll give my spoiler free impressions.

Impressive? The card sucks. Uno vs. Hansen was the only seriously compelling matchup, imo.

With a lineup like that, I have no interest in Hero's.

Akiyama VS Lebanner was cool...semi spoiler.....


Short, but good. I may be a minority in this, but I think Akiyama shows promise, and would do good if he fought in his own weight class. He's got skill and is tenacious.

OK, OK, there may be a lot of mismatches, but there are also a ton of good fighters.

I was there live... free tickets from the Sapp man means sitting next to Yakuza... there is one of the most brutal knockouts I have ever seen in this fight.

Lebanner is just a mean man by the way (it is not related to the KO I was talking about above)

Are you friends with Bob Sapp or something? That's awesome.

And Sam Greco is an asshole; so was that a work or what?

Yeah good friends with Bob.. I love and hate watching him fight... hard to see your friend getting punched even if he's winning... and ever harder watching him get owned.. But he is undefeated in the fights that I have been to 4-0!

That's the KO I'm talking about!

Umm, out of 10 fights, there were 7 fighters on the card who have had fewer than 5 MMA fights, 3 of which had never had an MMA fight before, plus Bob Sapp.

Lebanner? that was his last fight and after a 5 month break from fighting... (and almost no training...)

I think it is fair to say that Lebanner is far from a creampuff...

I wouldn't pay money to see Goodridge beat up a bum off of the street, or to see Genki clown somebody who has no business being in the ring.

Genki is a great fighter, and he's one of the most entertaining fighters on the planet, but I'm tired of him ducking legitimate competition.

I'm tired of Penn's gimick matches. I want to see him fight the top fighters in his own weight class, not unranked fighters in a higher one.

It isn't just the fighters in an event which make it worth seeing, it's the match-ups that make an event great, that's what makes Pride great, and what makes K-1 an increasingly pointless waste of time.

Good point, but half of that fight was MMA, and it was only Lebanner's second MMA fight.

I understand that, but LeBanner is a skilled fighter with plenty of K1 ring time.. anyways he will be fighting some big names again...this much I can say

In all seriousness, while they rarely actually promote solid matchups, I find K-1's freakshows to be somewhat amusing. What I don't fund amusing however is how K-1 consistently beats Pride in gates and ratings. It's just wrong.

I am not a big fight fan... outside of knowing people fighting, I would most likely now be interested at all... I mean if it were on while I was home I'd watch but I wouldn't follow. With that being said, I think K-1 does go out of their way to setup more "entertaining" fights. What I mean by this is they don't always match up the best fighters, wait let me correct that, they almost never match up their best fighters. But instead they make up some crazy headline and run with it! To the everyday Joe (Here in Japan it's the everyday Kenichi) these headlines leading up to the fight is far more entertaining to follow and the fight is just bonus.. Pride doesn't do that as well as K-1...

Look, I like Genki, I even said that he's a good fighter.

But he doesn't take fights against top guys. The last legitimate opponent he faced was Ludwig way back in April 2003. Since then he's fought a freak show match against Butterbean, turned down a rematch against Bang in order to fight total unknown Mark Brown, then fought Royler Gracie, who's completely one-dimensional and was outweighed by probably 20 pounds, and now Ramon Dekker, who has never had an MMA fight before.

So as entertaining and cool as Genki is, I can't give him respect as a competitor, because he doesn't seem to have the drive to fight top fighters.

To be fair, the Gracie match was a good match for him. But I see him ducking people. I want to see Genki vs Kid...

I dont know a ton about pride or anything, but he is a lot of fun to watch. He was cosplaying eddie gordo one time. too awesome. :lol

edit:
I think he would do just fine against most top fighters. He is very loose in the ring and very unpredictable. Every fight I have seen him in his opponents didnt seem to know what to do with him.

Spinning backfist 4 life. :lol

Id like to see him fight Takanori Gomi. I just saw the most recent fight between Gomi and Jen Pulver and his striking was way solid.
