Anybody Playing Aeon Flux?

So far my impressions are better than expected.

I've had a bad taste in my mouth about the movie, considering the rumors that it strays far from Peter Chung's original show -- but then, I'm pretty picky, because I found the half-hour series turgid and dull -- I much prefer the Liquid TV shorts.

Anyway, here are some early, unsorted impressions, which may shed some light on the forthcoming movie:

- Many of the in-game moves capture the feel of the original series -- particularly firing with dual mounted weapons while rappelling down a cable.

- Her fighting style is ultra swift and features over the top whip-like sound effects, much like the animation

- Voice acting from Charlize Theron -- not a soundalike

- There's a gay german model character that sounds suspiciously like Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno character.

- Color schemes are frequently garish -- the opening training level looks like it was pulled from Alter Echo

- Metroid Prime-style rolling levels seem to be an ongoing gameplay theme

- The game comes with a free movie ticket for Aeon Flux -- a practice common with DVDs -- is this a video game first?

- There are also acrobatic sequences, that feature Aeon bounding from pole to pole. This, along with a wall-running feature make much of the combat and movement feel much like Prince of Persia

-According to the manual, the game takes place between the animated series and the movie (I'd always heard that the movie was "starting over" and was not intended as a canon continuation of the animation).

I was vaguely interested in this, myself. (Personally, I'm partial to the Liquid Television shorts, too. Things were a whole lot more entertaining when you could sit around with a couple of friends and toss around ideas about what was supposed to be going on, which were inevitably cooler than the 'real' explanations of events in the half-hour series.) Thanks for the impressions - I'd be interested in hearing more as you get further into the game.

I only briefly played the training level. I was impressed with the fluid sort of movement which seemed pretty appropriate with the source material. What I wished though was that along with the garish sort of sets (which was well done) that they had found some way to recreate the original cartoon style a bit better with heavy lines and more flowing dimensions.

Am I remembering wrong or were there several Metroid Prime ball sections too? Felt as though you could be very fast and acrobatic once you understood the controls sufficiently.

edit: um, nevermind, you mention the Metroid Prime sections...

A little off topic here, but what is the premise of aeon flux (the movie), I got tickets to go see this.

Noppers, been happening for years... I'm so used to buying licensed crap I almost feel ripped of when a ticket isn't included.

Is the in-game model as hot as Char in the movie?

I'd say so. The look of the character, slightly real and slightly cartoonish kinda bridges the distance between Theron and the original animated Aeon.

how is the framerate? It looked pretty bad in movies.

There's slowdown during some of the Metroid Prime-style levels. Otherwise, my eye for frame rate isn't terribly sensitive.
