Jesus... plywood and sandbags are makeshift armor for the vehicles that have no armor? Inf'ncredible.

Pentagon planners didn't expect a long insurgency?

Brilliant.

People at home buying Off the shelf radios? nightvision googles? to ship over to their sons and daughters? What in the hell is going on here?

This general is getting owned on TV.... Lord knows why he even agreed to this interview when the military higher ups declined to.

DarienA, if you have PBS, check your local listings to see if and when "Rumsfeld's War", a frontline special, is on again. If you think this CBS report is bad, wait till you mind wraps around the absurdity of Rumsfeld and his cronies. It's literally frightening.

I thought the general came off as sincere and true. I felt bad for the guy, really. I don't understand why 60 minutes was questioning him, he has no power over any of it, but I guess they wanted a military source and no one else would step up to the plate.

The Ashlee Simpson piece let me down. I wanted more footage of backstage tears.

Bummer. I came into this thread thinking that was what it was going to be about.

It was a shocking story...but what is perhaps MORE shocking is that it took the media months and months to actually REPORT this story. The situation isn't new...where has the outcry been all this time?

There's more important news pieces for the MSM to cover, duh. Such as perpuatating the Swift Boat's for "TRUTH" ads during August and September, discussing why John Kerry is a "flip flopper", wondering aloud why Kerry can't speak in "plain and concise terms", and completely LAYING DOWN in regards to questioning this CURRENT administration.

Are sandbags a particularly effective way of stopping bullets? o_O

Just for a random fact to throw around at parties, sandbags actually were effective defenses against certain anti-tank weapons during WWII. Most of the infantry AT weapons like bazookas, panzershrecks, and panzerfausts were essentially a blowtorch with a rocket attached. When they hit a tank's armor properly, it would superheat the area, and blast it inwards, showering the tank crew with molten armor, which was bad. However, if it hit something before the armor, it would usually just harmlessly burn itself out before it could do any major damage. Supposedly the Russian forces also used chicken wire to the same effect.

Today though, I'm sure weapons like RPGs are at least a little bit more effective.

about to watch what i can of this show on my break from work.

the current administration scare me so much - so much deception, and none of them seem to know what the fuck they're actually doing. i just read the interview with kerry on the Rolling Stone website and it was so refreshing to actually hear him talk LIKE A NORMAL PERSON without using meaningless buzzwords and false 'conviction' edit:(as opposed to bush's embarrassing speeches).

and i don't even live in america :p
