Anyone attended ITT Tech?

I'm looking for a place to go where I can get further computer training after HS and being in Oklahoma makes that hard to find. However, I've seen some commercials for ITT Tech and wonder just how good it is, if at all?

It's not accredited, and you sign a contract with them... and rumors have been abound that they are under investigation by the Dept of Education..

Employers generally don't respect them, although I'm sure some smaller companies wouldn't know the difference...

Go out and get certifcations on your own--that's a way to show you have skills in the industry, and could land you a job somewhere, although college or a tech. school is the only way to go for a decent job...

One thing to add--in my experience, getting exam cram books and things of that nature are sufficient to take most cert tests...

Although ANY job in technology gets you experience that is greatly important. Places like school districts are great places to get a low paying job with lots of experience...

In the end, you're on your own in technology--if you push your knowledge everyday, you can become a valuable tech--and that's when schooling goes out the window...

Avoid ITT at all costs. The military(Navy) is a great place to obtain a great(free) education in the tech field.

haha has anyone seen that ITT Tech commercial with that fat dude who likes to play music and he's talking about how he went to ITT and is successful now etc whatever, but then at the end him and his buddies are on the beach and he is like "And... the music... never sounded better" and he's playing the bongos and that motherfucker looks sleezy as fuck... hilarious commercial

oh, the point of that story: just say no to ITT Tech

That's true and sad at the same time. In fact, I know people who SERIOUSLY don't know beyond basic things -- such as how to put in expansion cards and getting a basic LAN setup using a GUI -- get certifications like A+ and CCNA by simply cramming their brains out. Did they learn anything? Not really. But they have the certification.

Long-term, I don't think that's a good idea. I have nothing against cram books (they're great if you understand the material itself), but if you rely on it, you're going to be in trouble. A lot of people worry too much about GETTING a job rather than being able to actually perform the job. There's going to come a time when you actually have to produce results at your job, so although you obviously won't remember everything a certification says that you supposedly know, you ought to be able to pick up on the the things that anyone in your field should know.

I just know so many people who have this nice-looking resume that gets them all these jobs, but they have a difficult time maintaining a job because, despite their resume, they don't know enough.

Right... I had luck with experience before certs--but I understand how it is to need to get your foot in the door. Some of the simpler certs (A+, MCP) could do the trick and lead to experience...

Certs are way too easy to pass, IMHO... I'm a junior in college on a CSC major right now, so I'm kinda in a good spot where I won't HAVE to rely on them, but I feel for employers who know nothing and see an MCP shirt and an A+ technician and hire them without really knowing whether they will serve the company or not...

Didn't they used to be ABC Tech? I miss being able to call them "A...B...C...durrrhhhh... What comes next?" Tech.
