Anyone else feel that Meta is kind of a garbage company?

Danknugz

Is this guy PS5 or XBOX?
1. all they ever contributed to society were these parasitic social media apps
2. VR / meta verse huge waste of money
3. social media from sites like facebook and instagram are basically a cancer on the human brain and society as a whole, causes kids depression and doesn't educate anyone or contribute anything that valuable to society other than generating cash from ad revenue, the internet was originally used by military? educational institutions, scientists and researchers
4. their existence and value is predicated on people willing to waste their lives in social media

Ya think? Zucky B is as much on the spectrum as Elon is. At least the latter has more sense about what the country needs.

My only interaction with anything Meta is using WhatsApp with the old timers in my family.

Well, they have provided new ways for people to make money and connect so there is some value there. I think we need to be careful comparing the market they are in (it's a toxic dumpster fire of all companies) compared to their actions.

My biggest issue with them was the censorship of information they engaged in and the data collection. That shit is awful.

The VR thing seems out of place. Why should I give a fuck if they are spending tons of money on VR?

Meta's work in VR is actually one of the only redeeming things about the company. But apart from that, yeah, they're pretty trash and have been for a while.

social media is a shit stain on humanity and the companies behind them know it.

The amount of time i'll report flagrant lies, racism, sexism, scams etc on these apps and the response is "We SeE NoTHIng WroNG".

like literally there was one on insta the other day where it's like 20 year olds being paid by some most likely chinese corpo to push some drug.

its very clearly drug sales (as in fentanyl, ketamine or whatever young muricans are popping and dying to on a regular basis) the video is like two "cool teenagers" driving sports cars and popping little green pills.

the text reading "follow the link to order" or something along those lines.

report it, what does meta do.... oh that's right, nothing.

The best years of social media were when they had heavy moderation, had more vetting (or were invite-only), and mainly encouraged human connection.

Once these sites started removing the guard rails one by one, letting bots run rampant, letting trolls run rampant, letting porn creators run rampant, letting scammers run rampant, etc. and focusing more on data gathering with social/news bubbles (thanks to algorithms), it all went downhill.

If every social media app slowly devolves into an edgy 4chan-lite "town hall" experience, then what actually makes that site special anymore? At that point one is simply picking which interface they like to use more.

Meta's social media is seen as garbage because in the end for them the data was much more valuable to them than the health of both Facebook or Instagram's communities.

Plenty of books have been written about Facebook and the absolutely devastating influence it has had on society as a whole.

Zuckerberg is a terrible, terrible guy.

The one thing that genuinely surprises and upsets me about meta is how shitty their ads and business platforms are, considering it's one of their main income sources.
I constantly run into issues of things not loading correctly, trying to get into certain setting and just getting a blank page, missing features I've sometimes had to wait months to see enabled. etc.

You'd think this being the thing that actually makes them money it would be very well designed and work flawlessly. But my experience has been the exact opposite.
