Anyone else find watching sports incredibly boring?

The only sport that I bother watching is boxing

Sometimes hockey too when the canucks are playing

But yeah, most sports bore me.

I do love Hockey though it's very very cool.

I don't know if Motocross or Paintball counts as sports(I guess it doesn't) but I love those too.

Yes, never found it interesting. Even when I was much younger and was living in my uncle's house for a few years, he used to watch football and basketball but I never got interested. Always found it very slow and boring (most of the time you hear commentary or see the players walking around rather than them actually playing), and too many commercials.

Aside from hockey, football is probably my second favorite sport. However, watching the NFL drives me fucking batshit insane. I know the league generates a shitton of revenue, but jesus, its too much when it follows this pattern:

Kickoff
*commercial break*
Team goes 3 and out
*commercial break*
Other team goes 3 and out
*commercial break*
Player falls and twists his ankle
*commercial break*
Turnover on downs
*commercial break*
One play before the two minute warning
*commercial break*

Drives me fucking nuts.
This is why God invented fantasy football. During the breaks you check your fantasy score.

It's not argument, I assume no one's trying to change anyone's mind here.

It's the best way I can explain the utter and complete disinterest I have in watching sports (or taking part in any vicarious activity).

Playing it is fine but listening to people talking about the abstract minutiae of a game or team it always seems to me that the appeal is much more social and tribal than it is actually wanting to watch anyone running around.
I'm disinterested in many things. I don't think the majority of them are pointless and demeaning, however.

NHL- Love it Will watch all 82 games the Blues play this year, and whatever else I can catch on the national networks. I'll also go to at least 10 games this year, which includes a trip to Chicago, Detroit, and Montreal (CHI and DET are yearly trips. MTL is this year because we're playing them in Montreal and my Uncle was nice enough to buy me a pair. (most of my family is in Montreal) We're both going to be wearing Halak jerseys heh. <-- he has season tickets so I guess he didn't really buy a pair, more like he offered me one of them for that game.

MLB- I like watching a game or two each week and I keep an eye on the standings and stats all of the time.

NFL- I watch the games every weekend. I don't give a shit about all of the talk shows and highlights ESPN constantly plays though.

I also watch the EPL when I can.

How saintly of you, but what about the minority that you do find pointless and demeaning?

It's okay to think they are you know. There's a fan and a detractor for everything.

I used to not understand why people liked watching sports but then I started watching poker on ESPN (not calling poker a sport but it's the same with watching vs doing), so no I understand why. Still I don't find a reason to watch any sports, but I would if I could bet on them.

Sorry, we seem to be misunderstanding each other. It's fine if you think sports are pointless and demeaning, but it seemed like you were saying they were inherently so, which is flagrantly incorrect.

All mainstream sports suck IE
Baseball
Basketball
Hockey
Football
Soccer
Golf
On the other hand MMA, Climbing, BMX, Motocross any adrenalin sports are fun to watch.

For major sports I can only really stomach basketball and soccer. Baseball is the most dreadfully boring sport to have to watch besides golf of course. Hockey I just never cared. Football is so-so. I don't go out of my way to watch any sports games as there's other things I'd rather be doing.

I like how people continuously lie to themselves in insisting that NCAA basketball is superior to the NBA. I guess it makes sense if you enjoy watching terrible players play terrible basketball.

thank you.

If it's a local team that's playing in the finals or close to it, then I'm all excited and interested. Otherwise I find it boring.

+1 for finding them incredibly boring. They can be interesting when they do amazing plays that leaves you saying wow.

For me the worst is sport related things like commentators, fans, talk radio, replays etc. ugh, incredibly annoying for me.

The most entertaining sports are the ones that semi-literate ADHD apes find to be boring, with not enough scoring or violence, e.g. soccer and baseball. Those are also the only two sports where TV commercial breaks make sense: only at halftime for soccer, only between half-innings in baseball.

The most boring sports are the ones where there is so much scoring that each individual point loses almost all meaning, and the nuance of non-scoring events is so unimportant that there is little to separate the knowledgeable from brain-dead casuals, e.g. basketball (specifically the NBA).

You are so much better than people that don't share your interest.

At least, that's the case in your mind.

In reality, you're a self-absorbed, insecure person that needs to insult others to somehow validate his own position.

Hooray for you.

There are few things greater than NBA playoffs.

Yup it's amazing.

and to say college basketball is better is just wrong on so many levels. People like the 1 loss and you're out format but did anyone catch the championship game this year? I think both teams were shooting something like 20% at halftime. Derrick Rose laughs at that (and I love my bulls but he needs to get better).

It's simply vastly inferior players trying to play basketball. If they stayed more than 1 year it would be better but not up to NBA playoff level.

Nope, sports are awesome to watch, for the most part. Non playoff basketball is pretty dull as is baseball as a whole though

I find football boring as fuck. Maybe because Toronto doesn't have a team, but I still find it boring. I'm sure it's a blast if you're gambling, though.

I also find non Euro/World cup soccer boring as hell. Just don't care about those teams. Champions league is fun sometimes.

I enjoy everything else =)

Wow this thread.

Sports haters of any sort don't understand the game nor have they played the sports themselves, so they don't appreciate what happens in sports games.

I used to hate on every sport out there, but after watching them live in-person and learned what's going on by actually participating, I've changed my views about sports in a positive manner.

I played Soccer and Hockey as a child out of obligation to the strange mores of my society. Grew up and hated those sports and every other team sport. I understand the rules. I don't understand why it's fun.

i find watching sports incredibly boring, playing them is okay but watching fuck it. getting stuck at a live game was like torture. i just cant get into the nerdiness of it to find it interesting.

cant stand basketball, baseball, or soccer, and dont care for boxing... the only sports i like are football, MMA, and rally racing. i think thats it

ohh and how the hell can anybody watch NASCAR?!?!?! fuckin driving left in a circle??? REALLY?!?!?!

Oh mai, aren't you edgy

Most sports are fun to watch are fun to watch in some capacity, it is always a thrill to see a skilled person at work be it basketball, cooking, glass blowing, color guard/rifle twirling, crazy chinese acrobat stunts, ballroom dancing, competitive video game matches and even mundane stuff like card dealing and cutting vegetables. I like seeing how far the human body can be pushed.

Seriously love all sports, everything from basketball to cricket to cycling to rugby, whatever. Just love it. Simply put, in sports you have an unmatched a combo of the competition, skill, intensity and spontaneity, as you really never know what'll happen. And that awesome feeling of adrenaline you receive when watching a great comeback, awesome play, or unprecedented performance is something you just can't find elsewhere and it's really why I, and other sports fans, continually come back for more.

But I can understand why people dis-like it, especially if they have no knowledge of the sport or don't have a vested interest in any of the competitors. And there's nothing wrong with that at all.

I watch a lot of college football and go to a lot of games because the sport has a ton of strategy and build up going into each play. There's nothing like a crowd going insane on third down trying to intimidate or distract the other team.

Also watch SOME soccer during the world cup and sometimes tennis. Rugby is cool too. I appreciate the talent and passion that goes into ALL sports but once you understand how football works there's just no question about how exciting it can be.

Funny, I was going to make a thread about something very similar.

I love American Football. But lately my love of soccer has destroyed my ability to watch the NFL at all. I really want to watch and I want to enjoy the experience. But, honestly after watching so much soccer (and to a lesser extent basketball) it's just so wasteful of time and all that.

Oh look they kicked and commercial.
Now everyone takes a ~43 second break
and there's 10 seconds of action
time for another ~43 second break as the reporters gush about some player
and another 10 seconds of action
Oh wait, it looks like something went wrong.
Let's all stop for several minutes to make sure everything was all nice and fair for everyone. Wouldn't want anyone to feel things weren't fair.
Commercial break
Oh and now we're back and it seems the white team made the blue team feel sad that's a 15 yard penalty
Wait about another minute.
Another ten seconds of action
another ~43 second break. More reporters gushing like a porn star in a squirt film.
Oh they didn't make it ten yards. They'll have to kick the ball
commericial

It's gotten infuriating. Sure, people like to complain about soccer players faking but at least while they're faking the clock's running.

How is waiting for the team to call a play in the huddle for 30 seconds worse than watching guys run up and down a field and maybe score one or two goals in 90 minutes?

All team sports are terribly boring to watch, really.

However things like gymnastics are amazing to watch. Or synchronized swimming, stuff like that.

I like watching it in small bursts when something good is happening. I have never actually watched an entire game. I don't mind playing sports, but for some reason I can never get into sports games. The only one I truly enjoyed was that hockey game on the nes lol.

Watching sports is anything but boring. I absolutely love watching football, basketball, golf, boxing, and a few other sports. I also watch a lot of espnews, sportscenter, and other sporting shows. I cannot relate at all to the OP.
