Man, I saw myself in a relflection, and man, i'm turning into a fucking hunchback. Too many hours hunched over the computer/TV in crappy chairs like the nerd I am. I'm trying to straighten out now, but it's a hard habit to kill.

Is there anything I can do to help correct it?

man i have horrible posture too. its my bad habits of slouching in my seat in class or just not trying to stand/walk straight. doesnt help that im a short guy too

oh god, yah. mine is terrible. i think the ergo chair i have in the office is only making it worse too

any creative ideas?

I used to have pretty terrible posture when I was younger, but eventually I had a crazy French teacher at school who would dock you points if you were slouched over your desk, leaning your head on your hands, etc.

I just had to keep telling myself to sit up straight, and after a while it just came naturally. So, I guess really my only advice would be to just keep reminding yourself not to slouch. And if you catch yourself doing it, sit up straight. Eventually you'll sit straight everytime, and it really is better for you in the long run.

Maybe I should just resign myself to fate.

"Soon you'll have a mighty hump!"

Office / desk jobs are awful for it.
You go through a big health and safety rigmarole of how to sit properly, how to position your keyboard etc... then everybody throws their feet on the desk and hunches up like a swiss army knife at 40 degrees with half the things sticking out.

I have had very bad posture ever since the NES was released, and until even recently stood like this poor fellow:

It doesn't help that I am hypermobile and my knees naturally rest in a hyperextended position, pushing my pelvis forward.

But I have found that after working out my abs and back (erector spinae in particular) for a couple months it has improved significantly. I'm not sure if doing abs plays a factor but I mention it for good measure. As I understand it, sitting in a chair all day causes your back muscles to weaken, leading to poor posture. I do have to remember to keep my shoulders back and back straight, but as my muscles get stronger I find my posture is improving because it's now become uncomfortable to stand like in the picture, so I stand straighter automatically. Still working on the shoulders though, but I'm hoping continued exercise in that area will help as well.

If exercise is up your alley, you can find something enjoyable here: http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html
Another site recommends pilates as a way to improve posture.

EDIT: It also does wonders for your appearance; not only do you look taller, sticking your stomach out all the time makes you look like you've got a gut, so visually, standing straight is like instant weight loss!
