I.... I had a bad experience with wasabi once. The smell or taste of it makes me gag now.

I do.
Love it with sushi/sashimi, in soup, and all those wasabi flavored dry snacks. I was just eating fried wasabi seaweed just a few moments ago. Good stuff. :-9
Never had the McDonald dip before though.

You snorted wasabi right after watching Jackass: The Movie, didn't you?

DIDN'T YOU?

I haven't seen that movie. I mistook a blob of wasabi for mashed avocado and put the whole lot on a single sushi roll and put the whole thing in my mouth. I didn’t spit it out because I was eating in a public food court with people all around me, so I forced myself to swallow it all... my face exploded. In retrospect, I should’ve spat it out.

You can all laugh at my stupidity now. :p

Fried wasabi seaweed?! What brand? i'd love to try some.

The one I have is call "Local Favorites". Costco, Hawaii, was selling them in these giant buckets. I wish the costcos here have it:(

Heh my girlfriend is a wasabi nut. Soy sauce with TONS of wasabi is her way of life.

I blame it on her being Singaporean and taking her hot levels to the extreme (i.e. wasabi, chilli and curry). Slowly I am getting there and I do enjoy some wasabi as it does add quite a nice "spice" to sushi.

Wasabi is an awesome flavoring. Even better than its English compatriot, horseradish.

I know it is probably on a par with combining rice and ketchup to some of the purists on this board, but I really like dissolving some wasabi in soy to make a spicy salty dip for sushi and the like.

+1 Wasabi

I thought soy sauce + wasabi was a popular thing to do? At least my friends and I all do it.

I like both wasabi and horseradish. Probably horseradish more though since it's hard to find fresh wasabi in the states. I feel sorry for the dude that ate a whole glob of it though :lol What the hell happened? Did you pass out?

That's how i do it. It's easier to get the effects of the wasabi when mixed since you're less likely to swallow a portion of it without it hitting the roof of your mouth. But i generally only eat every three pieces with wasabi since it overwelms the taste of the sushi/sashimi.

It is normal to mix a little wasabi in with soy sauce when eating sushi, many Japanese eat it this way.

Like I said, my face exploded. Doctors were only able to do so much with reconstructive surgery, so now I don't go outside where other people can see me. ;P

Funny, I'd always read and been told that it was not the done thing at sashimi/sushi restaurants.

Not that it stopped me from doing so.

Doesn't stop most Japanese apparently either hehe...I live in Japan, I see people do it all the time.

I HATE wasabi.

But that's primarily because I find horseradish, in general, to be the most objectional flavor on the planet.

I can't stand it. It's not that I simply don't like the taste. It's that the taste is so bad that it makes me feel ill just having it in my mouth.

Love it, and in fact, that's how I earned my nickname. I don't use soy sauce or any chasers, just wasabi on the sushi and I'm a happy man.
