Anyone else never watch TV shows on a TV?

The last time I watched one of my favourite shows on a TV must have been last year, because I've gotten into the habit of downloading my favourite shows due to the superior quality and quite frankly the convenience. I also happen to buy DVDs of my shows so I do support the networks in that way. But I'm starting to look into other ways of getting my TV. Might be getting one of those ATi HDTV All in Wonders, sign up for HDTV from Shaw and have my computer act as a Tivo. I should probably give Telus a break on all the bandwidth I've been using to watch their competitor's TV shows...

It's called a modded Xbox, look into it =) I can watched stuff streamed from my network on my 50" HDTV through Xbox Media Center's 720p output so it upscales the video to that resolution. Looks great. Even better is when there are HR versions which is higher res than DVD/NTSC.

I have become a Torrent whore for TV shows. I'm working too late and I don't have a PVR (and refuse to use VCR) so I pretty much just download whatever I've missed.

The networks are really missing out on revenue by not allowing legit downloads of previously aired episodes. I do buy some TV series DVDs, but I hate waiting a freaking year to find out what I missed on Smallville while I was slaving away doing E3 crunch at work. : (

I get the HBO stuff as I don't have it, but I had to cut down on my torrent downloading after Shaw got a bug up their ass and threatened to up my monthly fees.

If you still want to download Torrents, just tell them you'll upgrade to their premium xtreme service for an additional $10/month. They'll give you unlimited bandwidth.

I used to watch tv all the time. Now I never watch tv period... if it's on, it's because I'm playing a game.

Actually I think it's only 50gb a month (up and downstream combined). I thought I had it unlimited access until they phoned me. Now I just watch my modem usage on their site and try and keep it under 30 a month so they have nothing to complain about.

I was in Res last year and thanks to some creepy guy on our floor, I, like most people on my floor, stayed out of the common room. I didn't want to pay for TV in my room because I figured it'd be way too big of a distraction, so I basically went 4 months without any real TV exposure (with the odd hockey game, etc.).

Then, I had a 3 week break for Christmas when I went home. I tried to watch TV, but I just couldn't. I had never realized just how bad it actually was. While there were some shows I was still interested in, I hated having to wait to watch them. Commercials didn't bug me too much, but organizing my schedule around something so trivial had become incredibly foreign to me. I could never watch things like The Daily Show or South Park because I would routinely forget about them.

So, I just gave up on it. Interestingly enough, when we moved into the apartment back in September, 3 of the 4 of us decided that we didn't want cable. It was expensive and deemed a general waste of time/distraction.

I really wish they would setup a system where I could pay to download episodes or something. I'd really be willing to pay for the shows that I download, but I'm not going to pay a bunch of money for a few shows that I occasionally watch and will most likely miss.

I watch a lot of episodes of TV on my Archos Gmini 400 - watched latest episode of Hustle on train to work, but usually I'll put my feet up at a Starbucks on a Saturday if I'm out and watch 3 or 4 of the latest episodes with a nice Mocha - usually docs - Contender, Apprentice ect.

Aside from The L Word, which my roommate records on his DVD player, i watch practically no tv. We have cable, but i just can't stand to sift through shows and decide what to watch. It just so happens i watched a bit of G4 today, mostly the show where they show trailers and the one after it, which i turned from when some caller wouldn't explain why he disliked Lego Star Wars.

i just started to torrent again, but i don't do it often since it absolutely kills our speed. i'm looking into a tv tuner card, but i need to get a dual layer DVD drive first to clear some space off of the 250GB+ of hard drive space i've got used.

Aside from 24, i don't miss anything off of standard air tv at all. i've seen a show here or there at other people's houses, but it only makes me realize what an entertainment wasteland it is.

It sounds like Tivo would fit you quite well then. Just set season passes to them so you never have to remember to record them and then watch them when you want to.
