I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
Finally got around to seeing this. Have wanted to for some time because I really liked About Schmidt. I was prepared to be depressed because of how depressing About Schmidt was (Dear Ndugu), but I didn't find it to be quite as depressing. It has the same sense of feeling lost and empty at some point in one's life, but I think because this movie was about coming to grips with fully entering middle-age years instead of pre-kick-the-bucket years like in About Schmidt, it wasn't nearly as depressing. Particularly because of the ending, it leaves you with more of a sense that no matter how shitty, empty or meaningless your life has been up to this point, good things can still come to you.

I really liked this movie. Made me think about life, and it was pretty funny as well. The scene where Jack woke up to Miles running towards the car as the fat chick's naked husband was chasing after him with his penis flapping in the air was fucking hilarious.

Anyway, I feel sorry for people who don't "get" the movie, like my sister (if you do get it and didn't like it, that's another thing and I respect that). She saw it and told me she didn't like it; "it was just about wine and stuff....boring". As Roger Ebert once said, "Movies aren't about what they're about -- they're about how they're about it".

I guess the younger generation won't get the full appreciation. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? (and anyone else that enjoyed this movie)

I loved Sideways. Drinking a few cans of beer then hooking into the red wine whilst watching it made me appreciate it all the more.

In Front and Drawing Away
I thought it was as good as 'they' said it was. Loved it. Everyone was solid in the movie, Giamatti great as always. The surprise was Church - he rocked!

I thought it was great. I think I still prefer About Schmidt overall but definitely a wonderful movie. The girl I went and saw it with didn't care for it much, though.

The two characters were great, Miles the intellectual pessimist and Jack the good looking carefree guy.

Great movie.

Saw it tonight

Really enjoyed it. Giamatti and Church were great. So was Oh, actually.

Usually I'm surprised when a movie like this is so funny, but I went in expecting a comedy and got a much better story that I had thought. Don't get me wrong... it was hilarious. And a very real funny, too. No conversations seemed like they were set up for jokes.

MILES: You broke some.

JACK: Whatever. Sorry.

MILES: No, not whatever. You fucking derelict.

:lol

The ending was so unique, with the dialogue more or less ending with her saying how the lack of a clear ending frustrated her.... then he knocks on the door and the film ends. :) The thing is, it's very possible that she wasn't interested in pursuing anything. Her phone message didn't necessarily lend itself to her being still into him. But I guess the point was that he did something about it.

The majority of the women I know hated the movie. They just see the lead character as a drunken loser and don't see his better qualities or understand his minimal redemption later on in the film.
