Stalker 2 Dev GSC Game World Explains for the First Time What Went Wrong With A-Life 2.0, and Why It Was Removed From the Game’s Description on Steam

Except for, you know... *gestures at every Ubisoft and Bethesda game that's sold millions of copies despite being a fucking mess*.

Ok, seems like a normal take so far...

... aaaaaand there's the entitled fuckery.
Being entitled for asking that a product ,whose pricing can reach as high as $100, have the features they promised? Are you kidding?

They didn't do this project for charity, no one asked them to work on a AAA game during a war, they had a marketing campaign for it and asked for significant money for their product.

They purposely didn't come clean about it until after pre-orders were done and they guaranteed their money.

I think criticism here is very warranted, as one would do with the Ubisofts and Bethesdas of the world.

No, you're entitled not because you criticise the game, but because you preface your criticism with pseudo-compassion before hand waving it away with personalised exceptionalism. You're acknowledging the unique position of this game's development before saying it doesn't matter because you're inconvenienced. There's plenty of people criticising the game in it's current state - I'm not quoting any of them because they're just expressing that the game needs work. Which it does. And the developers have acknowledged that. But you're the one saying "yeah, the game was made during a war, but I paid money so that doesn't matter because I deserve a perfect game." It's in really poor taste, and I'll call it out whenever I see it. If you want to talk about the game's issues, go for it friend - but shelve the bullshit attitude of "yeah, I acknowledge that at least one developer died as a result of the war, but if I download a game off of Game Pass, it better be perfect or else!".

They have to fix this shit because right now the game feel pretty bad in term of "breathing living world".

Big stretch of absolute nothing in the off-beaten path and then when you reach the smallest point of interest or stash, the game teleport some enemies on you, right now it feels like a more competent far cry with a fallout skin.

Shelfed the game a couple of days ago until they fix a-life and reintroduce the enemy ia from the past games, right now enemies are dumbdumbs most of the times.

I do find it interesting that he mentions AIife 2.0 requires much more memory resources the one thing we know Series S has an issue with. On top of that one of the devs mentioned how they never thought they would get it working on the Series S. Is butchering AIife 2.0 how they got it working there?
That's a lot of words to say that a certain console is holding the gen back

You think they wouldn’t fix it on PC or Series X if the whole issue was about the memory in the Series S?

When pack of rabid dogs chase me into a windmill/building the second i hand over an item, then the game feels artificial, this shouldn't happen.
Squint?
I only did that once so never noticed if there was any repeated things there.

But no triggers at all for spawning or bringing attention to enemy encounters is extremely rare in gaming in general. Don’t know what game that skips that. Most games start action set pieces or a cutscene when you walk over an invisible line.

To me Stalker 2 still feels less static. The cutscene barrier is there but it feels alive when stuff can happen while I’m just minding my own business, and different enemy encounters can appear so it’s not as repetitive as many other games. The missing or downgraded life AI still does it’s job since I have to be careful all the time from stuff coming through the spawns, also makes safe zones more effectful and it feeeels dynamic even if it isn’t.

Sure anything is possible with enough time and effort, the problem is they're spending time that could be used to polish the game on just the Series X on cutting everything down and making it work on the S.

How far we have fallen. I guess I am not surprised to see so many defending this. Sad. Must be some form of Stockholm syndrome. Getting screwed over for so long, you have become used to it and even seem to like it.

So what if this buggy mess is still "better" than some other game. Some bugs are expected. I still see plenty in Cyberpunk today. This is a broken feature. A main feature of the series and a major selling point of the game. Absolutely this should not have shipped like this. I am very tired of beta testing games and paying way to much for the privilege.
Good thing you have the choice no to do so.

I fucking hate M for creating that stupid piece of shit of a console that make ambitious devs work even harder.

The devs work harder, but they get more end users to sell to.

But aside that, there’s zero way the Series S has any impact on the way the game runs on PC, including bugs.

Yes to the spoiler.(y)
While i agree that for the most part i can roam Stalker 2 world like any other game, there's an issue here, and perhaps it's not apparent to all players but in several times i had enemies chasing me in a way that feel unnatural, like you said in the spoiler, that mission, i had no enemies around... the second i hand over the item to the npc, 6-7 dogs enter the windmill, climb over the stairs and attack only me and not the npc, like how the fuck did they know i'm there anyway? it's like they are robodogs that got a mission to eliminate me lol, this happened several times and the thing that annoy me the most, having said that.. i'm about 50 hours in the game, those dogs and pigs are no match to me anymore and it's not an issue as early game, still something that need fixing imo.

Maybe time to play the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. with that updated complete mod to get that true A-Life sense and how it hopefully will be in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 someday. :messenger_winking_tongue:

But the game runs great on my end (when i disabled the broken framegen) and the amount of bugs is pretty much what you can find in your average bethesda game, so the only thing that is making the game worse for me is the existence of the series s because it is probably part of why they weren't capable of putting a-life in the game, probably not the only reason, but a reason nevertheless, these devs needed every last drop of power available from these consoles because a-life really seems like a performance-hog.

I always hated that series S exist, these console are already weak enough to not have an even weaker piece of the puzzle that devs have to solve to run their games.

I don't know but they already released a heavily broken as it is. So why would I believe they could fix this in time for release? Just saw an article this morning saying they couldn't delay the game anymore because of being overworked or some shit like that. These guys were obviously pushing themselves to the limit here.

Lol yeah that sounds odd. Only did that sequence once but I think I had soldiers closing in to the windmill, or dogs that I killed at the doorway don’t remember. Definitely not crazy dogs climbing the stairs lol. I understand the frustration there.

Ironically enough, the game ended up launching in a more stable state on Console than it did on PC.

This is the kind of stuff no one would forgive a Ubisoft or Bethesda for.
When Vladimir Putin invaded Maryland, I'll cut Bethesda some more slack.

Sounds like this happened really late in dev as a band-aid fix, so hopefully the issues aren't too fundamental to fix on a longer timeline. STALKER 1 launched buggy and unoptimized, people will forgive if it's fixed in the end, I just hope it doesn't take years like Cyberpunk

All the resources, time and budget taken for making it worked on S could have been put to A-Life development and squashing bugs…But, hey, we can play at 800p upscaled

Their Series S work is part and parcel of the deal that saw them secure funding from MS for timed exclusivity and Gamepass access day one.

They won’t be complaining.

And then they get on their high horse over the Pro released 6 years later…MS are a fucking joke, and they still force parity. I dont think they can get anymore out of touch…

Every line has some made up BS in it. How you pulled that off is a marvel. Well done!

Hope you’re prepared to REALLY hate Nintendo from next year?

Nah the series x has enough memory not to be the bottleneck, if there was no series S the bottleneck would be min spec pc which is much worse than the series x
How do you know that the XBSX has enough memory?

How do you know what would be the minimum spec for PC if the game had full A-like 2.0???

Min spec is 16gb and xsx is 16gb? It's obviously cut because the series s is 10gb, don't be retarded.

hope they release the original vision on pc.
even if it requires 64gb of system RAM, who cares.

will probably have to wait for mods though.

1- PC has 2 separated RAM pools. VRAM and RAM.
2- It can use 16GB or more, yes.

A-Life with these kind of visuals was never going to be viable on any of these consoles. Not enough memory, not enough CPU power. Which is why Fallout, Farcry, or any of the other games similar on console has never attempted to do so. They all operate exactly how Stalker 2 operates right now. Kingdom Come 2 might be cited but looking at that game it isn't anywhere close to Stalker visually while only having a 30fps mode on console.

I tend to wait these days, but many do not and the industry as a whole is rewarded for bad behavior.
I don't buy anything i'm not sure of. Some people don't mind it, even with the whole Cytberpunk thing, some of my friends knew the problems and bought it all the same.
