Anyone else try the IE7 beta?

Note that you can't uninstall it. Now I wish I didn't install IE7 because for all I know it could have 500 security leaks since it's a beta.

Search that one really popular torrent site if you want to find the setup exe. It's not hard.

Whoa, I just noticed that IE7 is like 100x faster than IE6. Going back to a page doesn't reload it, and just loading a new page is much quicker. Definitely faster than Firefox... even Firefox users are stating this.

OMG shock and awe. New versions of FF come out all the time. They will make it faster. IE is just dumping the loaded data into memory faster. It will not take long for Firefox to catch up.

I did a window by window comparison and while IE7 is faster, it's nothing so great that it makes me want to not use firefox.

Yes.

:D

Requires a legit version of windows xp.

...does it?

edit: ok now I get it, it wont uninstall if you don't have a legit version.

I'd use Opera if it didn't hog so many damn resources. It's the Azureus of web browsing and then some.

Nope, can't uninstall it.

I hope the final release is soon.

I don't wanna reinstall Windows :(

edit: Thankfully I had system restore on. You CAN use IE7 and "uninstall" it by running the restore point labeled IE7. It almost looks like it means executing that restore point will be the installation of IE7, but it's prior to that.

I didn't even bother. I believe PNG image support has been requested by users and will end up in the final release. But I don't know, or care. :D

I passed the validation :lol ARRRRRR :lol

I do have 2 legit xp pro copies right from MS themselves, but don't want to use them unless I need to.

thank fucking god. twice already firefox has erased my bookmarks.

im sorry i left baby but its good to be back

woot. you can tell firefox is actually in the house when people dis it trying to be cool to head BACK to microsoft as the underdog.. LOL!! GO FF GO!

The genuine advantage thing is fucking shit. I've got a legit version of Windows XP that ca e pre-loaded on this Dell PC, and I can never pass the test. It's retarded.

i didnt pass my test either, you gotta go to the website (the link is on the setup program) and run their little program. after it passes, then hit next on setup.

I've gone to MS's site to try and validate. It has me go to the "alternate method" or something, and that doesn't work either.

I thought Firefox did that to me once, but the bookmarks were still hidden in some file that I had to copy back to somewhere.

I'm sorry, but as fast as a new IE may be, absolutely nothing beats the conveniences that Firefox has- the tabs, extensions, adding any search engine you want to the that little box in the corner, etc.

It'll take more than copycat features for me to go back to IE, unless of course I don't care about having every porn site in existance have some sort of script exploiting IE's weaknesess for which I'm sure MS will conveniently leave many.

Any talk about IE supporting mouse gestures? FireFox has been trouble lately (currently hogging over 150megs to view this page) so I'd love to give IE another shot.

Ah yay, you can uinstall this I figured out. Go to add/remove programs like normal, check mark "show updates" then just hit uninstall internet explorer 7 beta, restart and you'll be back to ie6 =) I liked ie7 except those annoying black boxes.

Final release? What in the hell! Its not like PNG has any patent restrictions or anything :)

I'll bet money that its not Firefox that's dogging, its all of the plugins. Many of Firefox's plugins are surprisingly resource intensive. I've talked to more than a few people who were saying they were having problems with firefox and then I told them to uninstall various extensions (many of which are camping the WNDPROC and making the browser run slowly) and the memory usage went down considerably and the performance went up considerably.

I use Safari now, just because its better integrated with OSX - but I've found plugins to be more of a problem with Firefox than anything else.

I guess its your theme that screwed IE7.

What's this about the back button being 100x faster in IE7? Can you really be 100x faster than instantaneous?

That's what I thought at first too and removed what few I have. No real change. I doubt I'll get rid of the problem until my next reinstall of XP or I switch browsers.
