Anyone having PSP problems?

I wanna know, because my PSP is freaking out. When playing Lumines, the blocks will suddenly start going left on their own accord. On John Davison's, his blocks go right. My PSP is clean, used only on Sundays by old ladies, and is kept in a very safe case. I barely use it for anything else except playing Lumines with an occasional dash of Ridge Racer. I can't exchange it cuz mine's Japanese, but I've never spilled coke on it or anything, so my D-pad isn't all gummed up, and it's less than a month old for fuck's sake. I'm pretty pissed. Does anyone else have issues with their PSP besides dead pixels? Ironically, mine has no dead pixels.

No dead pixels, though Wipeout seems to lock it up when waking it from sleep. It's happened two or three times now, and once it locked up while i was blitzing past the initial screens.

I wondered if it was interference from, I dunno, cell phones, that was wreaking havoc with my unit. Or radar detectors, or burglar alarms. Who knows. But it's like Poltergeist the PSP.

After putting the PSP to sleep for a bit while playing Ridge Racers, the music doesn't come back when I resume play, but I'm guessing that's natural.

HAHAHAHAHA YOU HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN AS ME

My left d-pad got randomly stuck (even though it was not sticky and has been kept in a case all the time) and I couldn't play shit because it would start driving left or whatever. I took it to the Sony service center and they fixed it for free (of course) in 2 days. "Short" was written as the explanation on the receipt.

So next time you go to Japan, drop it off at the Akihabara service center (right next to that all you can eat yakiniku place) and come back in a few days.

Since it's basically the same shit, I hope the U.S. fucktards can fix my JP PSP. But still, yo, ONE MONTH OLD?

A very similar thing happened to me yesterday, but I booted from power off. I was blitzing past the initial screens as well. Kind of ridiculous how many buttons you have to press just to get going. In any case, maybe there is some kind of wierd bug in the menu system.

WOP seems to have a number of small bugs. Sometimes the audio will be distorted. The first time it happened, i thought my speakers had blown. Sounded the same with earphones, which was when i figured it was the game. Went back to the home screen, reloaded the game, and the sound was fixed. Only happened twice so far.

Sleep mode seems to cause so many problems. Untold legends really doesn't like it at all, Lumines goes a bit weird , Mingol refuses to load after sleep etc...

"But still, yo, ONE MONTH OLD?"

Sho's unit is a launch unit - it sounds like these units are up to the usual high standards ;)

I don't know if it's my inexistent skill or a not fully functional analog stick on my psp, but sometimes in Ridge Racer the car goes straight forward even if I turn the stick.

And I have 2 dead pixels, but they don't disturb.

My music has cut out twice now with no sleep mode involved, and it took a reboot to get it back. My PSP's about 2 weeks old, so the music issues combined with the fact that it has 6 dead pixels means I may have to swap it soon. :\

if i play RR and puts the PSP in sleep mode, and when i start it up again the music soundtrack is no longer playing while driving!

i have to switch the PSP off totaly and then start the game again for it to get the music back in the game.

Kirby crashed once when I took it out of sleep mo-
Wha, wait a sec, you guys are complaining about the PSP!?
WTF!? I must be on the wrong board.

My Square button is starting to get irresponsive. And when I'm playing Lumines, every once in a while, a block will drop down as if i'm pressing down, when I'm not.

the RR issue is most likely software related and I have the problem aswell. Fucking annoying though.

Once UL didnt want to load, I blame it on the battery though as it was blinking etc.
WF didnt load the save, then sat there for 10 secinds and finallyt he PSP shut it self down. oops battery died. I never notice the blinking because my hand is obscuring it.

RR disc made a grinding noise once when it loaded back to the menu. I have read on other boards with someone who had exactly the same problem as me. Hopefully it wasnt major. Disc didnt get damage either.

I must be lucky because Ive put hundreds of hours into my PSP and I havent had any "return from sleep" problems at all aside from the very first week I had it (weird).

Well, I think it deppends on where do you put the PSP in sleep mode. If you do this in the middle of a load, it has a lot of chances of crashing.

I always pause the game before going to sleep and I never have had any problems.

I've had only two "return from sleep" problems, and both were software related. The RR music thing seems pretty common. I typically put it to sleep in the menu to avoid that. Also, Lumines lost my high score and unlocked skins after sleep. I did not load my game either (which it asks upon finishing a round after sleep). Everything was there and appeared fine, but restarting the game showed that none of that data had saved.

Everything else has been just fine. I use the machine constantly and always turn it to sleep mode.

Hmmm, a similar thing happened to my dualshock, it would randomly start pressing right. It happened back when I played Xenogears, Fei was going apeshit.

Yeah, same with me. I had that kind of problem maybe once, and I must have used sleep mode hundreds of times.

6??? That's obscene. I have 1 in the lower corner of the screen and still have problems with it..

My screen is scratched to all hell. My obsession with cleaning it with the wipe cloth has put scratches all over it (they arent noticeable unless under light)

God, I know what you mean --- That screen is made out of the fingernails of angels...

what's the best way of lifting the screen to get dust out?

You might as well try downloading the version 1.5 update if you have a Japanese PSP, if you haven't already. It may "reset" something in the bios or something. Doesn't hurt to try...

man people are having this many issues already?? sony sure is working people over with the psp. i can't wait to hear the return rate 1 year from now. i bet people will be claiming to be on their 2cd or 3rd psp. what a joke man. makes me want a psp less and less.

I've been waiting for EB to get more units in so I could exchange my first PSP on their warranty thing because my first unit's right shoulder button would stick in a lot of the time, and it got worse and worse as time went on. It also had a dead pixel, but it didn't bother me much.

So I was stoked to get a new unit from them yesterday which I checked out in the store to make sure that the buttons were all cool, which they seemed to be, and there were no dead pixels...

...so this morning I get up and play a bunch of RR, and the analog stick is all messed! At first I just thought it might need to be "broken in" because it was semi-sticky or "crunchy" when I would slide it horizontally. But the more I played, the more flimsy it felt! Now sometimes it feels like I'm about to break it! Has anybody else had analog problems?

edit: I think the problem is with the removable "nub"--I took it off to check for dirt or dust under there and it seemed fine. Upon further examination, the reason it feels flimsy is because if I'm pushing down on it as I slide it right, the whole face of it tilts to the right...arrrrgh.

So you simply ignore the majority with no problems? Sound logic...

Still, it's no secret that Nintendo builds the highest quality machines. I have little faith in Sony hardware, but that certainly won't prevent me from buying it. The PSP seems pretty sturdy to me IF you receive a perfect unit right out of the box (which I did). I'm hoping it will last. I bought it for the games, however. The DS is likely a more durable piece of hardware, but I don't buy hardware for shits and giggles. I buy hardware for games...

Your post sounds like an attempt at trolling (with your user name backing that up pretty well, I'd say).

Every person with a PSP I've talked to -has- problems. I'm sure that that's largely due to the fact that people with problems are going to be much more vocal about it, but still...where are these mystery people with "perfect" units?

P.S. Milkman--when did you get into The Lost Golem (Maigo no Goremu if I remember correctly)??? I'm assuming that's what your avatar is from because it looks exactly like it. That game is one of my favorite DC games.

There are plenty on this board and I know several in real life. Every person I know with a PSP had no problems (though I don't really know all that many yet). Like I said, my unit is virtually flawless and I use it very heavily.

Here. No dead pixels, no problems, not even a scratch (miraculously).

US unit, 8am, launch day.

Nice work. I'm jealous--I really thought I was there with this second system of mine, but the analog thing is really going to irk me. I assume there's no "repair" center in the US like the one that was mentioned above, right?

P.S. Apologies for the hyperactive posting.

Is it okay to charge the PSP with a UMD disc still inside? How about leaving UMD discs in, even when the system is not in use. Manual says something about discs warping.....maybe from the magnet?

Hmm...looks like I managed to be a thread killah once again...oh well, I'll try to revive it.

What should I do about this crappy analog stick? RR and Wipeout used to be a joy to play, but now it sucks ass because of the wonky stick on my new unit. If I had known I was going to trade a sticky right shoulder button for a crappy analog stick, I wouldn't have done it.

Still curious if anyone else has had analog problems--I can't help but wonder if some of the people that don't like the nub are that way because they got faulty PSP units.

My only other problem has been trying to get the Wipeout browser to work. I followed someone else's steps on another board, but keep getting the wipeout coming soon screen.

any help would be great.
