So I got a new car in January and my old one has been sitting in the garage with no one around to use it. I noticed, a couple days ago, an oil puddle under the car. I don't want to deal with the repairs and/or selling someone a messed up car so donation seems to be the only other course of action.

Anyone have an experience doing this? BTW it's a '03 Maxima MT w/ 185,000 miles

PS - If anyone has any ideas of how I can get rid of this car and make some money I'm all ears

I did kars4kids. I got a travel voucher and a tax write off plus it goes to a cause, can't go wrong with that...

I donated mine to the kidney foundation.

Fuckers gave me a tax receipt for $75. The gas in that thing was probably worth that (I tried to siphon it out myself with no luck).

If you want someone to get some actual use out of it, call up your local community college. A lot of mechanics' courses rely on these kinds of donations for project cars.

I haven't donated one, but I have given one away to someone. It was just a matter of going to the tax assessor where you get a tag and asking to have it transferred to their name. They then have to pay for a new tag and it's a done deal.

Thats barely 10 years old. If you're looking to get money for it, you could get a few thousand for it selling it on craigslist. Also, I'm assuming MT is for manual transmission? If its in good shape, I don't see why you couldn't get at least $3500-4000 for it. At least thats what they go for in my area.

If you're not willing to sell it, then what MacG suggests seems like a great idea. The car would be used by many students.

I did the same but got a $300 receipt which was pretty fair considering the car.

O man I have a story to tell about this. I own an older Lexus. I had a flat tire so I decided to just get all my 4 tires replaced. So I went to a local shop, and they said hey we have these tires for sale, it is a little bigger than the one you have but it will fit just fine. Meh cheaper is cheaper my younger self said. I just started college so I was hella broke.

Anyways yeah when you turn the wheel you can tell it was a bit too big but hey the shop said it would be fine so what the fuk right? So I am driving on it for a few weeks. One the way home from school, I make a left turn, and the fuking right wheel broke off its axel. My fucking wheel was rolling down the street. I was just sitting there stunned....My car was on 3 fuking wheels. Anyways I was less than 50 yards from my house, said fuk no I am going to pay for a tow truck, so I drove the rest on to my house. The car made some crazy sparks and noise as it dragged the remaining 50 yards.

So anyways the car was sitting in the front of my parents house for a few months. My parents said to either fix that shit or get rid of it. I no way could afford to fix that junk so I decided to just donate it. Donated the car to a nonprofit for the blind. So apparently they had it repaired and sold in an auction. How I know this? Like half a year later after I donated the car I get a god damn ticket. It was one of those photo's the person who bought the car who was OBVIOUSLY not me. He had the best O shit look on his face.

I went to court to contest the ticket and the other 2 infraction this fuker put on my name. He apparently robbed a store and drove off in that very same car which for some reason still had my name on it. The judge was like, are you sure this is not you? I looked at him like Wtf? The paper shows that I donated the car way before the dates of those infractions annnnnd the dude looks nothing like me in the damn picture.

To make the lesson short? When you donate make sure you keep all the paper work, and MAKE SURE the dmv gets the paper to show the transfer lol.

My wife just got her drivers license the other day and we need a cheap car so she has something to take our daughter to kindergarten with (no buses). Otherwise she'll have to drop me off at work everyday much farther away. Sucks.

I'll give you five pence sir!

I'll give you three fiddy for it.

Also no one that wants to donate his wife ? :D
She needs to be in good condition
