My coworkers play on the clock, and do well sometimes. 30 minute game, and they make like $50 per shot. Not bad if you're good at poker.

Ehhhh, what fun is poker if you can't really see and interact with your opponents?

Online play is just too dangerous for me I think. Once your money becomes intangible, it's far too easy to let yourself spend it without thinking. Even amazon.com addicts will tell you that.

How does online poker work?
Couldn't you write a program that counted cards and spit out all sorts of statistics?

Most good poker players are able to calculate outs, pot odds, and implied odds on the spot. No need for a fancy computer program. :)

As for me, I don't play poker online for several reasons. It's too addictive, and not nearly exciting as poker in a brick and motar cardroom. I do however, play low-medium (nothing more than $10-20 games) stakes cash games and live tourneys at the local cardroom.

I highly doubt that's true. Not unless they have a calculator for a brain and they really know their statistics.

outs is easy for a poker player to count. Pot odds are just as easy. Implied odds are a little trickier because you are including what people will bet on the future rounds of betting

Also most good poker players have read enough books to understand what the odds of winning are. Its not too hard actually. A lot of it is imbedded into memory when you play enough and see from experience

I play online. A lot. on empire and party poker. It is quite addicting. Id recommend just sticking with the home games and B&M for a while. If you do want to give it a shot, give me a pm.

"Calculate" may be the wrong word but good poker players get a feel of how many outs there are ,what chances they stand of winning. They couldn't spit out numbers as quickly or as accurately as a computer but they're good enough that a program isn't really going to be that much of a help.

exactly its just a matter of being able to read the board quickly, know whats the best hand possible, knowing what you have, how many cards left in the deck that can help you. knowing whether you currently have the nuts. knowing your probability of hitting a flush on the turn or river. Stuff like that
