Anyone know how to fix the DS Lite touch screen?

My DS Lite's touch screen hasn't been responding properly. The upper right portion of the screen is very unresponsive. About 90% of the time, it doesn't recognize that I tap there and makes games like Ouendan frustrating to play. I called up Nintendo about it, and since my warranty expired a month ago, they want $50 for repairs or $75 for a refurbished one.

Man, it's just a month. WTF. I thought Nintendo's customer service was #1????

Now, I know there is some way to fix the touchscreen problem. Has anyone fixed this?

I've read before that sometimes the screen can become unresponsive if a bit of grit is caught under the edge around the touch screen.

You could try running a thin sliver of paper/card/plastic around the edging to see if you can fish any thing out. I've seen some claim it fixed the problem.

Night before last my DSL was fine, nothing wrong. Yesterday I open it up only to find a fairly big ugly black smudge in the bottom-right corner, with line of the crack going to the right and top of it. It's a launch JP DSL so I have no choice but to buy a new one. Are there any known issues of that happening? Oh and I know no one else messed with it.

you can try to calibrate it.. somewhere in the settings when you start your DS.

Nope, I think it is a known issue.
The DS won't calibrate properly because the screen is ****ed up.
When I try to calibrate, it keeps going on and on and on, until I say"ENOUGH" and turn off the system.

I had a similar problem with a refurbed DS Lite that Nintendo sent me after I sent mine in for repairs/replacement. Of course, I had it with me at work (unloading trucks), so I figured that it must just have gotten damaged while I was working. That it seems to have happened inexplicably for you, though, is pretty interesting.

Unless you store it beneath a hammer hanging from your ceiling or something.

I had the same problem. Just gave up and bought another one. Have kept the old one just for super mario bros multiplayer which doesn't need the touch

They are #1. But you can't expect them to bend just because you had a problem after your warranty expired. Pay the $50, I say.
Wow. They fixed my N64 after three years when the warranty was expired.

I guess Nintendo changed a lot. I'm going to live with it until there is some recall with these.

Or either that, it'll become a dissection project.

Is the warrenty only one year in the USA? In Holland (and maybe the rest of Europe) it's two years.

Call them and be angry. Speak with a manager. Etc.

I'll try though I think that only works if you're not a 20 year old man and only if you are a female talking to a rep who needs a girlfriend.

I'll do it after work (though probably over the weekend when I'm not so tired).

You don't call the cafeteria lady a bitch because once in middle school you got a cookie for free and now your demands for more free cookies aren't being met.

Worst case scenario, if you haven't opened up an RMA with them, try calling back and see if you can get a more reasonable (that is, kinder) rep!
