Alright, the favorite thing to speak about as of late is how mainstream Hip-hop/rap is dead but over the summer, when Bishop Lamonts album drops itll be back.

Seriously, the guys like a combo of Eminem and Tupac. Tupac because hes straight West coast and speaks on a lot of politcial things and religion and Eminem because he has crazy rhymes and hes a funny shit talker like him.

But hes so much more than that too. He refrences video games, comic books, 80s cartoons and everything. A really nice line from the song Im a soldier, "I bid hoops, I beg your pardon With the Pen I spawn more characthers then Todd McFarlane, they Marvel at my Image from here to D.C., you can trace all you want but youll never be me" See, you can tell this dude was definitly reading comics while he grew up. He rhymes stuff with super heroes names all the time too.

Or "Raps been infected, where the f*cks the vaccine, When its time to ride I transform like turbo Teen" Turbo Teen!?! I didnt even know what the **** that was til I saw it in a 80s cartoon thread here after I heard the song.

He first got like discovered I guess when he did the main theme song for True Crime: Streets of LA sdtrk, which was easily the only good thing about True Crime lmao.

Really funny song, kinda reminds me of 50's how to rob except not talking bout people.
Heres the first verse:

Good Lord they shootin at me,
Smile on my face cuz im trigga happy
Bitch get my drink and make it snappy
Fore I leave your ass screamin' for a taxi
True crimes and nothin but,
I just seen that nigga Ruben jack a ice cream truck
Then creep across the street and rob a pizza hut
American idol aint my title
Im elmer fudd with a big ass rifle
Lurking the block homicial
And robbin nuns, Gimmie ya bibble
Dont you know im Loco Holmes
With a trench coat like Sherlock Holmes
Full of shot guns and big ass chromes
set to break in all your homes
and Take that take that like puffy combs

if u wanna hear it, www.datpiff.com has free mixtapes for download and listen to

Now for the N*gger Noize mixtape, its easily better then 90% of rappers albums, http://www.dubcnn.com/mixtapes/bishoplamont/ is the free download

Heres a track list:
01 Intro (Pretty funny, Bishop talkin like a klans man)

02 Klansmen (Tight song, first line is funny " Swear to God almost every mutha ****in day/another fakest nigga walk up to me guess what he say/Hey Bishop, hows it feel to work wit Dr. Dre/I reply Hey Faggot, Hows it feel to be Gay?" See what I mean, i can just picture that coming out of Eminems mouth almost)

03 Dont Kill Me (another really good song)

04 Translator (hook goes like this, "I wish the game was reversed/and my verse was the beat/so you listen to me first/and then dance later/I aint dumbing down shit/you dont get it, get a ****ing translator" Wooow, pretty nice stuff huh??, great song too, Refrences Bill and TED! BILL AND F*cking TED! Excellent!)

05 The Truth Ft Stacee Adams Another great Song

06 Lets Go Another great one

07 Footsteps in the Dark (easily one of the top songs on the mixtape and one of the BEst Songs Ive heard in like the past year or 2, Samples the same Isley brothers song "Today was a Good Day" samples but he twists up the beat a little, Go listen to it trust me!

08 Fukk Krammer Radio ( haha funny skit, 1000 dollars to the next caller who kicks krammers ass)

09 Super Freak (sex song, heres a nice lyric, "A horse is a horse of course but not in bed, im half man, half horse, call me Mr. Ed... I want some Head head head head.... Thats what I said Gimmie some head head head head")

10 Bitches on Myspace (if this were an Album, you wouldnt be able to turn on the radio right now without hearing this song, kinda reminds me of 50 cents "In Da Club" EXCEPT its not totally retarded crap, not dumbed down like 50s singles

11 Last Crusade (damn another hot song!? Bishop says it sounds like the bible if it had a sdtrk "Forgive me if I nod off snoring/but hip hop right now is f*cking boring/since the MisEducation/I been missing Lauren./For your information you should stop performing/ and dont even think about f*cking touring/It should be a crime how these rappers rhyme while they recording/Get the death Penalty bitch, no call from the warden/No stay of execution, electruction im warning)

12 First They love you (ANother hit , In the begining Bishop says "this would make Wu-tang proud", i never listended to wu tang so I dont know but the hook is really catchy. First verse is bishops, other 2 are from his crew, Wardogz, who also sound surpisingly decent. "When I ride in my ride, I dont listen to the radio/Cuz nigga spit that same ol' same ol' lazy flow/ Ever since TI everybody sample Jay-Z's flow/ Like swell aw hell he might as well direct the video/ And when you go to close ya might as well yell Hov/Borrow some his clothes and borrow some his flows")

13 KKK Hotline (skit, leads into the next song, bishop talkin like a KKK hotline operator, funny lol)

14 N*gger (Bishop speakin political but not takin himself to seriously, "Matin Luther had a dream/that nigga probaly scream / if he heard me calling him that/instead of a king" Funny stuff but he also has a damn point too)
15 Hood Psalm (One of my favs, hook is really really hot, bishop addressing the haters)

16 So Cold (Wooow, really deep song. First verse is about black people being shitted on, second verse is about slaves, third is about the youth only knowing about rappers and sneakers and not there history. Very sad song, my girlfriend listened to it while we were smoking and acutally LISTENDED for once instead of just hearing and almost cried)

17 HisStory (Wow another deep song, first verse is about rap and how hes gonna bring it back second verse Bishop talks about 9/11, and iraq and third is about black history.

"They faked the moon landing To remain First/ So how fefectious thinking 9/11 was rehearshed/researched then reworked to make ya hate Abeeb down at the mini mart/ Look for the terroists to come from over seas/ but they already hear in Washington DC/ Scare tactics got us Demonizing Iraq/Forfeit our Rights for the PAtriot Act/ We hand over our power to stop the Villians/to the very same Bastards that dropped the Buildings/ I aint Michael Moore/Nutty Conspirator hooked on Sci Fi/X-Files and Star Wars/ Maybe common sense Aint that Common / Maybe its harder to Recongnize then solve the problem/ Who We fighting? What we fighting For? And Why the F*ck we still over there fighting More?!' WOw, thats the damn deepest rap verse ive heard since 96'.

ALright SO ive been typing this post for like 2 hours but really, If you are a fan of Hip hop you owe it to yourself to check this out. But some people dont like him, I tryed to get my cousin to listen to him but he said he sounded like Pitbull?! WTF!.

I've been telling people in LA this for the last two years: The Game is garbage and Bishop Lamont is the real west coast savior until Detox comes out.

Looks like he'll be the next big west coast thing. Everyone thought Game was the next west savior but that turned out to be a bust. This dude is pretty witty, and he has a nice casual flow that suits itself well to Dre's beats. And what I find most impressive is that he's not a gangsta and doesn't pretend to be one. He's a rapper who refuses to take himself too seriously, which is a good thing imo.

i'm from the bay, and i listen to a lot of bay music.

in a couple months, Mistah FAB (forever after bread) is going to release a mixtape. Dude is probably the best coming out of the bay, and just signed to atlantic. ill post the link when it comes out in the OT. dude spits some flames.

How is he lyrically though?

I find most rappers coming out of the new Hyphy Bay movement can't hold up lyrically like some of the older Bay Area rappers(Pac, Luniz, Andre Nickatina etc.).

He started off as a backpack rapper, and he can freestyle for days. he can spit some serious shit when he wants, but you're right, a lot of these hyphy dudes aren't keeping the lyrical quality high enough to be considered anything close to mediocre. His only problem is that he's really the king of the hyphy shit right now (since Mac Dre died), and a lot of people expect him to rap like that, when he can get really lyrical at times as well. his cd (w/ atlantic) will be a double cd, and one cd will be mainly hyphy/club siht, while the other is deeper, back pack songs going back to his roots.

Thanks for the heads up.

I'm really starting to believe that mixtapes are the best creative outlet for hip hop lately.

Some of my faves:
Clinton Sparks and The Clipse: We Got it 4 Cheap Volume 2
Lupe Fiasco: A Rhyming Ape
Little Brother: And Justus For All
Talib Kweli: Blacksmith The Movement
Kweli and Madlib: Liberation
Lil Wayne/DJ Drama: Dedication Part 2

Any other opinions yet ?
I think it could pass as a major album with some minor touches; he has the potential to easily break into the mainstream. The intro was funny as **** :lol

This dude is sick! Word in the street is Dr. Dre got an ear out on him...

He's been working with Dre for a pretty long time now lol; Dre is producing his album, and it'll probably be huge

I will say this- a very quality first post.

Now, onto the acutal mixtape itself- on my first listen, I was not digging it. The intro was weak, and Klansmen left me deleting that shit in disgust. That being said, I will at least partly blame my shitty speakers, as everything that comes through them sounds like it's being done underwater. But I recently got new equipment, and am willing to give this a second chance.

N*gger Noize certainly didn't leave the huge first impression that say, Chamillionare's last mixtape did, which was so good I actually preferred some of the tracks on there to many of the original beats. (If anyone could link me to that shit again, it would be greatly appreciated).

Huh lol?

Anyway, imo Klansmen is probaly one of the weaker songs on the mix, but I still think its pretty good, 3/5 imo.

But Id say defintly look at the other songs on the mixtape. All the other songs are top notch.

I can't figure out if you posting this entire thread is racist or not. I thought we were discussing rap music here.

Pretty good interview of him. Dude is laid back and funny; doesn't take himself too seriously and isn't interested in falling into the west coast gangsta stereotypes.

Later in the interview he addresses the Game issue

Yea ive watched some of that. Ill have to see what he says bout game though, dont think I saw that part.

Hes seems like a real cool dude, pretty humble. On his myspace he has a video with him and busta rhymes thats pretty funny http://www.myspace.com/bishoplamont

Update
~

I bumped this because I recently discovered GLasses Malone from Bishop Lamont.

Anyone who copped the Bishop Lamont mixtape i recomended and felt it, if you really like west coast hip hop like that youll love Glassses Malone, most of you probaly already know bout him if u follow rap im a little late.

ANyway if you want to try a mixtape of his go to www.datpiff.com and search for glasses malone and the white lightning mixtape is really a classic album imo.

if you go over to G malone's myspace he has some songs for download too, Malone is the single off his new Album BeachCruiser to be released soon, summer or late spring im thinking. He got a 1.7 million $ contract deal with Sony Urbanhe has some stuff with Game on the White lightining mixtape and some stuff with Bishop lamont too

Mykestro is another good westcoast rapper i learned about through Bishop too.

IMO Bishop Lamont and G Malone should make an Album together defintely

The songs theyve done together are all good

I think Bishop will put Rap back on the map.

Dr. Dre is already endorsing him, if Eminem and 50 Cent do it then hell sell as much as 50 cent did with get rich or die tryin

If they have an interview on MTV with Bishop, Dr Dre, 50 Cent, and Eminem all sitting there itll make him sell. I remember when Dr dre and Eminem did it for 50 when he first dropped, all 3 were sitting in chairs lined up. Its really all they need to do seriously.

I saw on Westcoastrydaz forum that 50 said to watch out for Bishops album so im sure there probaly going to do just that but couldnt read what it said cuz im not a member

G Malone strikes me as a dumber and less witty Game (and it's not like Game is that witty either lol).

It seems like west coast rap never changes. To them, it's still 1992. Lamont is doing a nice job of going against the grain, although things might change once his official studio album comes out.

92 was a great time for rap.

I agree; it was ****ing amazing to be honest. But while the other reigons of rap have moved on it seems like west coast rap is still predominantly gangsta gangsta rap. It's hard for people like Game to live up to Tupac/Snoop/Dre/Ice Cube. The east coast is always great at impressing with lyrics, while the west was able to get by with some of the best producing in music (Dre and others). Now the production isn't that amazing anymore, and the flaws of the system are easier to see
