Anyone notice how on Live...

...everyone seems Southern? Not that that's a bad thing per se, but it just seems...weird. Maybe it's just cause I'm from Brooklyn, but still.

not everyone is southern, just everyone who doesnt quit a game as soon as they see your gamertag.

OH NOES THE SECRET IS OUT.

Yeah it drives me crazy. I'm glad I'm not the only one from NY who feels weird about it.

Speaking of which i havent logged on to live in AGES... probably a good 2 or 3 months. I pay, yet dont use. Odd.

Time to hook in and play some BIA.

It could be because fps games really appeal to southeners. When I worked at gamestop our xbox section was just as popular as our ps2 section, lots of die hard fps players and what not.

I notice more dumbass preteens with mouths like sewers than anything.

They are fun to verbally run into the ground. Nothing like having a game of urnout 3 going and then have the other 5 cars ont he race turn around and start screwing with JUST the kid.

That's so true. The possibilities of online play are great, and MS certainly talks it up (Live is pretty damn good, so more power to them), but it is disappointing when you start playing and 90% of the people playing are 15 year olds who just know how to curse and call people gay.

Report negative feedback on them at the very least.

How can you tell?, You all sound the same to me. The only accent that I noticed a strong difference is with the UK players

I've noticed this too, and I'm also from Brooklyn. I think there might be some connection. :lol

The main thing I've noticed is how rampant open racism is among Americans, I really had no idea that many people were that bad, especially younger people.

Scary stuff.

Maybe there is a correlation between this and what the original poster is noticing, eh? YEE-HAW dixieland!

Most of my LIVE friends (met through online forums) are from the NYC area, the west coast, and the south (North Carolina).

I rarely play the PUBLIC but it does seem like way too many 12-year-olds will scream WHITE POWER at the drop of a hat.

I assume by southern you mean 'hick.'

And it is a common misconception that all hicks are southern. Take Illinois for example. by land size its 95% hicksville. But people don't realize that because when you think Illinois, you think Chicago.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that New York is much the same.

Jokes, dude. Jokes.

Sure, there are a lot of racist people, but it's a pretty small minority.

Not really. A token racist starts off with a few jokes.

And un uptight anal jerk is born when a person can't take a few. I lived in an area where I was subject to racism (people refusing to give me change, having things yelled at me, ridiculed for my religion/race) as well, but I can still accept a joke as a joke if there isn't any malicious intent behind it.

Racism isn't cool, we all know that, but we need to tone down the sensitivity sometimes as well.

The "hick" accent and "southern" accent are pretty much the same.

I've noticed this as well on Live. Everyone seems to have some sort of southern accent derivative going on. I'm from California (coastal). Even central valley California people have this "southern" accent thing going on (like Los Banos, Ludlow, Bakersfield, etc).

David Cross actually has a great bit about this. He talks about being on tour, and pretty much everywhere in the country people have this exact same southern accent.

I'm glad I don't have it.

To be fair though, its not as if Americans are the only ones who suffer from the Olimario effect (as im sure you know). Only yesterday I was playing Halo 2 Major Clan and our opponents were Londoners (which ironically would be southern to me), and it took them all but 3 minutes to start really spouting vile racist shit.

Apparently we were cheating cause there was bad lag on their team, so that of course gives them the right to talk bollocks and start super jumping over Containment and then complain when they win.

Really hoping I can avoid this shit more easily on 360, as it takes so much fun out of the game.

That's a huge misconception, man. Racism is a much bigger problem than you make it sound. The "small minority," although a minority, is huge. I travel around the country a lot, and at times it seems as if whole states are racist.

And I don't know how you can say "jokes" when people call others n*****s or n*****-lovers. Turn on any online FPS and you can tell that anger is definitely more present than jokes.

The worst (and funniest) racism I've experienced was the day Halo 2 came out. It was myself, and 7 other guys I know. 7 of us are black, and 1 was white. Anyways, we were playing CTF. We were owning the fuck out of this other team. We weren't talking at first, but when we did and they found out were they were playing. Shit hit the fan. Got dammit, Bruce and Paul. We are losing to a bunch of got damn n*ggers. I can't fuckin...What the fu....I mean, what the fu....I'm fixin to get fuckin MAD!!!!! I dropped my controller out of laughter. I had to be at work at 5 in the morning as well and I waited till midnight to get my copy. I stayed up over 24 hours because that replayed in my mind all day long.

Don't notice it probably because I am from the south (if you want to call Atlanta and its 75% population from NYC/Chigago the south).

The only accents I notice are northern and mexican ones.

As I said in a previous post, it comes down to intent. I figured the people using the term racist in here weren't referring to what's being said on Live, but rather to the poking fun of the South that was present in this thread. Yes, there are quite a few people on Live with malicious intent (may they rot in hell), but the people in this thread were just having some fun.

One of my funny early memories was playing Wolfenstein when I first got on Live.

I was on a team with some clan. The clan members sounded really laid back and stoned. The clan leader, on the other hand, was this raging angry guy who was barking orders and constantly screaming at his teammates for screwing up. From his speech patterns, you could tell he was a black guy.

We were on the German side. Seeing this Nazi Storm strooper with the little "talk" icon above it's head with a raging black guy's voice was just hilarious.

Come on the racism is the best part of Live. One time me and a friend were playing halo 2, when the mics kick in this kid is already well into a speech about those damn niggers and Jews. So I (being drunk as hell) start talking shit throughout the entire game, "nigger in the lead," "reparations bitch." and the like. After the game he says, "well I still beat your nigger friend." And I'm like, "Nope he's one of yours." My friend then gets on the mic and says, "Sorry I let the race down man."

Good times.

I run into more beatboxing fifteen year olds and screamers than I do hillbillies. Of course, I live in Missourah, so I may be oblivious.

There needs to be a disclaimer whenever you log on- White teenagers, just because Dave Chappelle says ni**a, doesn't give you the right to call everyone one.

Southerners are funny, and are easily agitated. Piss on off a bit and you'll be a n***er for the remainder of the session.

I also noticed that everyon on Live smokes weed while they play....... :lol

I had a guy go on and on all game about how much pussy he gets. He was like Andrew Dice Clay. He was funny as fuck. If I could remember his name. I'd add him to my friend's list.

IAWTP

:lol :lol :lol

it's strange to hear so many southers accents at once!

I once played with two kids from the south who were piping banjo music through their headsets... they also had the car horn from the Dukes of Hazzard ready to go at a moment's notice. It was quite amusing really, to sit inside a building and hear banjo music getting closer.

I've never noticed an overrepresentation of my fellow southerners on Live. It does seem like a lot of the time there's somebody from Atlanta, but as someone else said well over half the people in Atlanta are nothing more than Atlanta Yankees and not southerners. I used to get matched up with people from New Orleans alot, but sadly not anymore.

I can summon or mask a Southern accent depending on circumstances, and I usually bury it when talking to non-southerners, either in day to day life or on Live.

The US census bureau should snatch some of you up right away. You'd do away with that expensive blanket census taking and replace it with with your superior scientificy hearsay poll.

I once played Halo 2 and Ghost Recon 2 3 nights in a row with nothing but Canadians on my team.

90 percent of live users are CANUCKS!, also they were sad about hockey.
