Christmas, a time for togetherness, unity and the flaunting of many shiny things bought by loved ones. And those things are usually bought somewhere before Christmas, but how early are you all going to buy your presents this year?
For me, I'm starting my Christmas shopping ext month, starting on the 11th. I'm buying my mother a NES classic edition and going from there for the rest of my family.
my christmas shopping is done throughout the year. last year I finished shopping by June. I just keep an eye out for things I think people I want to buy gifts for and buy them when I see them or spot a good deal.
Shopping during the actual holiday season is for suckers.
Yep! Although most of my friends are embarrassed if I get them something nice, so if there's something they want during the year they can't afford I pitch in / cover it and tell them it's their Christmas gift.
definitely doing it earlier this year, i fucking hate spending all this money in a hurry and being forced to be less thoughtful w my choice of gifts because time is running out. every year it's been like that. not this time.
and i'm opting to do a lot of personalized stuff this year. Vistaprint getting nearly all my cash.
Same. I'm usually the guy frantically walking around the mall 30 minutes before it closes on Christmas Eve just buying twice as much shit as I plan to give with the intention of returning the rest.

This year, we're spending Christmas with my girlfriend's family in Boulder, so I've definitely got to figure out what to get them. Here's what I'm thinking...
- Girlfriend: New laptop (she just started grad school, so I'm gonna get her a new MacBook)
- Her Dad: Still thinking about it. He's into eastern philosophy, environmental protection, and 70s/early 80s prog rock. Those are my guiding lights, so I'm gonna try to find something that ticks off at least a couple of those boxes.
Don't just recommend that I get him weed like some other people I've asked haha. They live in Colorado, they can buy it whenever they want, and I'm not even sure they do.
- Her Mom: She's recently gotten into cooking professionally via a catering company, so I was thinking something that ties into that? She also used to work as a writer, so I was thinking of maybe getting her a really nice leather-bound notebook and fountain pen.
- Her Brother (in college): He's in art school and constantly scraping money together to buy supplies, so I was thinking about just getting him a healthy gift card at his favorite supply store (the name escapes me at the moment).
- Her Brother (in high school): A $100 GameStop gift card. I'm not even gonna try to buy him a specific game, because I remember how much I didn't like that when I was his age. He knows what he wants way better than I do, and I'm sure he'd rather pick something out himself.
So far, I know that best buy, Target as well as GameStop will have them at their respective stores on the 11th. So I plan on buying one from one of the stores.
Yep. Picked up a Frozen Olaf blanket for mom the day before yesterday. She loves Olaf.
Also have a few things socked away...sometimes if I see something good that someone'll like, I just buy it and figure out whether to give it for their birthday or Christmas or whatever later on. (Kinda fun to go spelunking in my closet in December and go "oh yeah, I remember getting that for X person! I'd forgotten")
I've thought about it, but probably won't buy anything until late November/early December. Picking out gifts for people is one of my favorite parts of Christmas tbh.
I bought gifts for all my coworkers, there are only 5 of us in our section, yesterday. Haven't drawn a name for my friend group yet, but I am itching to get that taken care of as well. ::sigh::
I always start in September. If I spread it all out I don't end up low on cash in December, and I have more time to find something good rather than buying whatever in blind panic
Nope. I keep my Christmas shopping really simple. If you're not an immediate family member, or a GF, you aren't getting a gift from me. My shopping doesn't take long. lol
The wife has been hinting at wanting a specific sort of vanity license plate for Christmas, so I suppose I have to get that done early since I read that it's about a 45 day turnaround time. In fact I suppose I really got to get that done this weekend.

Do you actually think there will be a line for it? I was planning on just walking into Target, then BB or Gamestop in the morning and getting one. Since it is a holiday in my state.
yeah. already got some gifts. it would be GREAT if nes classic could go up for pre-order.
also hoping a 2ds+pokemon bundle gets announced sometime soon. only annoying thing is when companies wait til black friday to announce things. I'd rather get everything out of the way before that day.
I'm almost done with my kids. Early October I bought my 13 year old an iPhone and a nice case. She'll be thrilled. I'm about halfway done buying for my ten year old, a bunch of dolls and clothes she wanted. She's still deciding what else she wants. My brother and I are going to buy each other the Battlefield season pass. Other family can fuck off with gift cards.
Girlfriend wants some vague "New Phone" but won't let ol' Horseticuffs, who knows a fair bit about finding a good phone, pick one out for her so I'm still waiting.
It's all about starting early, as you can afford it. I started getting ideas from people this summer.
You don't wanna be like my ex-wife, scouring dollar stores the week before desperately trying to find things roughly analogous to what your loved ones want. Shit is ridiculous.
