Anyone up for helping a layman update his driver?

I got a Radeon 9800 SE graphics chip and had similar problems to the one guy with Half Life 2. And I know my version is fairly old. Version 6.14.10.6360, updated back on 6/2/03. Anyway, so I searched ati.com, came across CATALYST Windows 5.1 which I think I went the right way about. Downloaded the link and extracted the .exe into a new folder. But when I click Installshield for the setup, it comes up

"SETUP cannot proceed because the length of the specified directory path plus the installation folder name exceeds 88 characters

Please shorten one or both below the specified limit, and try again"

Any help? There may be an easy way to fix that but I don't know and I'm wondering if I went about getting Catalyst 5.1 right. Thanks.

jesus, they're up to 5.1 now? I have 4.12! How many versions did I miss?

What improvements ar there in 5.1 over 4.12?

Try extracting it again from scratch, and when it asks you where you want to save it, save it straight into C: and don't use the folder it reccomends.

4.12 = 12/04 drivers
5.01 = 01/05 drivers

You're 1 month, and probably 1 update behind, Ecro.

ah. well, that's better then.

Anyway, what improvements are there to be had?

No clue, I don't even have an ATI card, but an NVidia one. I just like knowing useless shit. :lol

nice, thx Stinkles. It worked and the problem with HL2 was fixed. It was when there was lighting on a character's face it would act extremely weird, like the faced was interlaced and looked like a transluscent bluish. Like the lighting wasn't acting properly. And the beginning had those problems. But its all good now. Just need an updated sound driver to fix the squeeky voices on Battlefield '42 and Mafia
