My friends just started buying concert tickets and selling them on eBay, and so far they made $200 USD in profit off just one concert. I think I'm going to join them :p

It just seems too easy, and I'm sure we can think up more stuff than just concert tickets.

So anyone here a big time eBayer?

i got a buddy who abuses the shit out of it for video games... he just goes to town on these companies with their deals and shit, and pulls in up to almost a grand a month as side-income. his 'spending' money.

I used to be in a book selling business that did a lot of our selling on eBay. If you stick to certain margins and dealing in a product you know, you can make quite a nice chunk of change without significant effort.

Yup. I'm a big retro gamer, and about once every 3 months I sell a bunch of stuff that I've found and know is quite rare to make some extra dough, usually to buy more games :p

Right now I'm not getting many hours at work, so the stuff I've only very recently found and put up on Ebay will certaintly help me over the next few months. Especially since a lot of it is VERY rare stuff you just don't see nowadays.

And I think this'd be a perfect opportunity to point out my current sales! :p

I mean, that Mario Party 3 will easily make 60-90 Australian Dollars when the auction finishes. It's very difficult to find. Scooby Doo and Toy Story 2 are pretty crap games, but they're still rare. Game & Watches always sell for a lot, so I put the Donkey Kong Jr. up. I've seen Rock 'N' Roll Racing still go for a fair bit of money despite it's age, SNES and Master Systems still get good cash, and Mario Tennis will probably sell for something like, 40-50AU.

The way your friends seem to be going about it is like buying a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga or Paper Mario when it first came out simply because it'll increase in value eventually. It might be tough, but it's fair :)

I stopped using eBay when the 95% quotent of assholes there grew to about 98%. Guess we can all add another one.

And for the record, there's nothing wrong with making a healthy profit on eBay, but I wasn't a ticket scalper.

Honestly, if you are a person of meager means ... Ebay isn't the place to do your shopping. If you log on and expect people to give you tickets and games at a 10 percent markup .. you are pretty naive. People equate "auction" = "low prices" ... when that isn't the case.

That being said, there are thousands of people (read as: trophy wives and collectors) who sit at home and buy shit all day ... often paying x times the value of the item. So, sell away.

It's called capitalism .. it's old as human history itself.

My wife sells alot of Longaberger baskets (do a search one time) on Ebay. She buys them for a few bucks at garage sales (people that don't know the value of them) and then sells them for 30-100 dollars on Ebay (depending on the style and rarity). It's not very often, maybe 6 or 7 times a year.

I've actually scored a lot of shit off of ebay for really cheap prices. I've got a bigass 6ft tall Big Fish poster that I scored for like 13 bucks... most recent deal was the MGS3 OST for 15 bucks.

You just gotta know how to use Ebay if you want low prices. Otherwise you're gonna get dicked. (I ALMOST did, when some asshole was selling the MGS3 preview soundtrack as the legitimate OST. had to do some poking around til I realized it though.)

think of it as a remobilization of the capitalist system. you're willing to supply goods to people who otherwise couldn't get these goods at all.

I make a decent chunk of change every few months by selling out-of-print DVDs that I have or come across, often a couple of months before the studios reissue them for about 80% less than what people are paying on Ebay (recently, a couple copies of Audition netted me about $80 each). :lol

Still, the best was when I sold a plain white t-shirt with a red Nintendo logo (which I'd gotten for free) to someone in Japan for $120.

DarienA

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
A few years ago I made direct contacts at various adult video houses, Sin City, Fat Dog, VCA, VCX, etc. to purchase videos directly from them as well as from 2 local distributor warehouses that I sell on ebay, ah those were the days.

VERY PROFITABLE, even got to meet a few porn chicks along the way....

Ebay sells porn?!

Yes and no.... a few years ago they were less restricted in what they sold.. I believe they still do but it's hard to find... the categories fall under: Everything Else > Mature Audiences

Even back then you couldn't have pictures showing naughty bits, you had to watch your verbage, etc. even though it's in a section that you can't enter unless you have a credit card registered with ebay! It always made for a interesting balancing act IT was very easy for people to complain about an ad and get your auctions cancelled, etc.... it was crazy.

How much profit would you make on say, a regular DVD DarienA?

Eh let's see..... most movies I could purchase direct for say $3-$7(some folks and certain hot titles weren't worth it, way more expensive), I could turn around and sell them for oh the regular cost of DVD movies at the store these days. Then I could turn a few extra dollars by bringing up the cost of priority mailing $2-$3 more then the actual cost... Remember though that I still had to deal with listing fees, and the shipment costs from the factory to me, but I still made out ahead... VHS tapes made a much better profit they were cheaper to buy direct and still sold for DVD prices.

Ah ok. So you weren't selling for too much over the retail prices, just buying super cheap.

Good stuff man, maybe I'll be able to hatch such schemes this summer! :)
